From the Principal
Welcome everyone to Week 4.
Parents’ Support Group
One concern for parents and carers of children with special needs
is ensuring their children achieve their potential in the post-school
environment. All parents, of course, understand this challenge, but
some children face distinct challenges in choosing a career,
accessing support services, training, etc.
This week’s Parent Support Group meeting will address these
challenges. Mr Justin Omrod will be speaking, a young man who
has been diagnosed with Asperger’s (ASD) and has proceeded to
a range of extraordinary achievements in work and wider pursuits,
including some inspiring achievements in extreme-distance cycling.
He will address the PSG on his own experiences post-school,
particularly training, employment, support (from school, family and
government) and other areas.
As always, members of the PSG will also bring their own wealth of
experience to the meeting.
Mrs Laurian Ginns asks that those attending think of specific
questions they would like to ask of Justin. Laurian will forward the questions to Justin so he has a format for
discussion and has time to prepare. Please address questions and general enquiries to Laurian at
The PSG meets at 5:45pm this Thursday in the Media Centre. All are welcome.

in the Australian Stock Horse Classes,
where in very strong competition,
both in her age and in Open classes,
some with 20-odd competitors, Laura
managed a second place. Again, a
terrific effort.

Holiday Care
Parents and carers in the Primary School will have read an email sent last week regarding holiday care at
Waratahs (further details: tel Casey at Waratahs, 6361 1854).
I have received a helpful email from one of our parents, further to mine:
Another option is the council holiday care
(http://www.orange.nsw.gov.au/site/index.cfm?display=151626) that operates out of Calare School. We
have tried both Waratahs and this one – both are great. We have, however, found that the program for
the council one is very interesting, with many external excursion options (eg Cowra Japanese gardens,
dinosaur museum in Bathurst, making own picnic then having it at Elephant Park, and lots more) as well as
internal activities.

I have a range of tools and garden implements here, owned by parents who helped build Will’s Garden.

Helping Elissa Make a Difference
On November 8-9, Elissa
Gillingham (Jagger 1C), Melissa
Montagliani (Isobella, 1C) and
Karelle Taylor (our Teacher
Librarian) will be participating in
a very special event called the
Weekend to End Women’s
Cancers, benefitting the Chris
O’Brien Lifehouse.
The ladies will walk
approximately 60 kilometres in two days with thousands of other women and men. The proceeds will
support breast and gynaecologic cancers research, treatment and services.
Elissa has committed to raising at least $2,000, but has set her personal goal at $5000.00 for her team. She
needs our help. Please use the link at the bottom of this notice to visit her site and make an online
donation. Please keep in mind how far Elissa and the ladies will be walking, and how hard they’ll be
training.

Messy Church
‘Messy Church’ is a new program of outreach commencing at St Barnabas’ Anglican Church, cnr Dora
and McLachlan Streets, Orange on Sunday, 25 May from 5.00pm-6.30pm and then every fourth Sunday
evening. Evenings will commence with games and craft activities, proceed to informal worship in the
church and conclude with a simple meal. The program is for the whole family. Please contact Rev'd Gary

WAS Cross Country Primary
On Friday the 9th May, 2014 at the tough Kinross Wolaroi PLC Site, Orange, the Primary Orange Anglican
Grammar School Cross Country team competed at the WAS Cross Country Carnival. All students who
represented Orange Anglican Gramma School competed with incredible effort and sportsmanship on the
day and for this they are congratulated.
The following students competed on the day and placings are shown for students who placed in the top
10 in their age groups. We wish the best of luck to all of the below students, who will be competing this
week at the HICES Cross Country Carnival.

WAS Cross Country Secondary
Last Monday Pip Mannix, Kynan Lane, Jack Saran, Georgia Lewis-Minogue, Jessica Windus, Jack Dixon,
Abbey Cross, Emily Saran, Lachlan Skinner, Corey McArdle, Tayla Lane and Peter Dixon travelled to
Bathurst to represent Orange Anglican Grammar School at the WAS Cross Country Carnival at the Scots
School Bathurst. All students ran extremely well and proudly represented our school on the track.
Congratulations to all of you. A special congratulations to the following students who placed in the top 10
runners in their age group and were chosen in the WAS Representative Cross Country Team.

Wheelchair Roadshow
The Wheelchair Roadshow visited OAGS secondary students on Wednesday 7th
April. Students had the opportunity to participate in a game of wheelchair
basketball and wheelchair races. Our instructor, John, told the students stories of
young people who have had accidents from farming accidents when not
wearing seatbelts, texting and driving and speeding accidents. He also told of his
own accident when scuba diving which caused him to become a paraplegic. His
main message to students after they had been having fun playing games in the
wheelchairs was that they could now get out of the chairs and walk normally.
Many people don’t have the ability to do this. Thank you to John for such a great
day!

Disabled Car Spaces
It has come to our attention that people are using the disabled car spaces when there are no car spaces
available in the Administration car park. Please do not use the disabled car spaces unless you have a
disabled parking permit. We have numerous families that need to use the disabled parking spaces. Please
park in the top car park and walk down to Administration using designated pathways.
Primary Homework Club
If you wish for your child to join please email me your child’s name. It begins straight after school and
finishes at 4pm.

Enrolment Interviews are currently being conducted for new students in Kindergarten through to Year 11 in
2015. Every new enrolment, including siblings, are required to participate in an enrolment interview. If you
wish for your child to be considered in the 2015 cohort, and an interview has not yet been arranged,
please contact Carolyn urgently by either phoning the Administration office, or by email at
A Transition Morning Tea will be held on Thursday 19th June for new Transition students, commencing in
2015. If you are aware of any families who require a position in the 2015 Transition class, and have not yet
made formal application, please encourage them to submit an application form to Ms Egan very soon to
avoid missing out.

Indigenous Marathon Project – Guest Speaker Elise Hull
A big thankyou to Elise Hull from the Indigenous Marathon Project. Elise spoke to secondary students last
week about setting goals and health and fitness. Student’s also learnt about Elise’s trip to New York with
Robert De Castella to compete in the New York marathon.
Year 7 Parents iPad Session
A reminder to Yr 7 parents that an iPad session will be run in C8 on Thursday from 4 pm. Please bring your
child’s iPad, iPad password and intouch password.

2015 Year 7 Parent Information Night
Parents and students eligible for Year 7, 2015, are invited to attend an Information evening which is
scheduled for the evening of Wednesday 4 June between 7 and 8pm, in the Media Centre. This is a great
opportunity to hear about the exciting program which our Secondary School has to offer. Please feel free
to encourage families outside the Orange Grammar community to attend this event. Information about
Experience Days and Orientation Days will be available at this meeting.
Volunteers Needed for Half Yearly Secondary Exams
During the Half Yearly Secondary Examinations, we will be providing support for our students with disabilities
and/or with learning support needs. Such support includes reading questions to students and writing
answers, as students dictate the answers. In the past we have used senior students, however this year this is
not possible, as we don’t want to disrupt the program of our Year 11 students. We need parents or
grandparents to volunteer as Readers and Scribes during the Half Yearly Exams, from the 2nd to 6th of June.
A short training session would precede the exams.

Cumnock Soccer and Netball Carnival -Cumnock Public School Parents and Citizens Association would
like to invite your Primary-aged Soccer and Netball Club or Teams to our Annual Cumnock Knock-out
Carnival.
This Year our Carnival is to be held on Sunday the 15th of June. Please book this date into your soccer and
Netball diaries. Also if you could pass this information on to any other clubs or teams in your area I may
have missed, we would be grateful. If you could let me know a contact person/s for your team or club
that we can deal with directly that would be appreciated.

NRL ‘Backyard Blitz’ Football Clinics
Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 enjoyed a Rugby League Clinic on Friday 9th May. The students will
be involved in the NRL ‘Backyard Blitz’ Program that is delivered to schools around our area by Rugby
League Development Offcer, Michael Armstrong. This program will run over three sessions and helps
develop many skills. All students had a fun time learning skills and scoring tries!! Many thanks to Michael
Armstrong for his time and efforts!

Orange Theatre Company would like to offer students and young people an amazing theatrical
opportunity. This October OTC are putting on a youth production of Seussical the Musical which is a full
scale musical production based around the stories of Dr Seuss. It particularly focuses on the story of Horton
Hears a Who but includes moments from other well-known Dr Seuss stories such as The Cat in the Hat, How
the Grinch Stole Christmas and Green Eggs and Ham. OTC would love for any of our students who are
interested in being involved either on stage, in the band, or working behind the scenes, to attend the
information session.
There will be a COMPULSORY information session on Sunday 1st June at 2pm – 3pm in Mercy Hall, James
Sheahan Catholic High School. Every person auditioning for a role on stage or in the band, as well as those
interested in working behind the scenes, plus a parent representative with any children under 18, must
attend this session. They should arrive no later than 1:50pm so that both child and parent can sign in and
be seated ready to start at 2pm.
The auditions for those wanting a role on stage will be held on the following two Sundays, 8 th June and 15th
June, both days starting at 10am. Students will book in for 5 minute time slots to sing a prepared song from
the show and must also attend the dance audition at 3:30pm on the same day they audition. More
information about the audition process, as well as the audition process for the band and backstage crew,
will be given at the information session.

during the holidays?
Orange City Council’s Vacation Care will be operating from Monday 30 June to Friday 11 July 2014
at Calare Public School Hall. We will also be providing care for the pupil free day on
Monday 14 July 2014.
Bookings for Vacation Care and the pupil free day will open from Tuesday 10 June to Friday 27 June 2014 from 11.00am to 4.00pm only, at the Community Information and Services Centre, 79-81 Kite Street, Orange. Bookings
are limited!!

Chicks Charity Auction @ OAGS
Hi to all the gorgeous women of Orange Anglican Grammar School!
The P&F of OAGS are holding a Chicks Charity Auction to be held on
Sunday 15 June 2014 from 2-5pm.
Bring in clothing, handbags and shoes that are in great condition to be traded amongst participants while
we indulge ourselves in champagne and eat canapes.
Pull out those items in your wardrobe that you’d thought you’d wear …. And never have – some may
even have tags on them still! Each garment will be displayed to us, and priced at $5.00. If two or more
women desire the item, an auction (cat fight!?) will ensue whereby the highest bidder (or person still
standing) wins the clothing item. There will also be racks of clothes that will just be for sale and all
garments will be priced at the starting price of $5. Clothes for sale will be sold on a first in first served
basis – doors at the Media Centre open at 2pm!
All we ask is that the items be clean and pressed (Limit of five items per person if possible). This is a great
way of getting together, socialising and perhaps gaining a brand new wardrobe from the experience, as
well as enjoying an winters afternoon with some great food, bubbles and having a few laughs. The
proceeds from this afternoon will go to the P&F for Will’s Kitchen Garden Program.
I do hope that all you fabulous woman out there will join in this experience. Bring girlfriends or
grandmothers you feel may also like to participate in such a fun afternoon!
And to any fashonistsa’s who may like to help with the afternoon – please call me or email – 5-6 helpers
would be super!! If you would like to help out with donating canapes please contact me on the above
