Italy's Flag

  There are three colors in the Italy flag, white, red, and green.  White and red stand for the Milan flag. The green stands for the color of the uniform of the Lombard Legion. 

Location

• Italy is located in southern Europe. It is bordered by France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia. It covers 116,306 square miles.

Climate

The climate is mostly mild. In summer their temperature can rise up into the mid-90’s with high humidity. In winter, night time temperature can drop below to the freezing point, but snowfall in the mountains is rare. Up in the far north it is cold and has mountains. In the south of Italy it is hot and dry.

Some Places To Visit

 Pantheon-More than 43 meters high, located in Rome.Colosseum-The Colosseum could hold some 55,000 spectators who would enter the building through no more than 80 entrances. San Giovanni- The church today goes back to 1646, when people Innocent Commissioned the architect Francesco Borromini to restore the basilica which was about to collapse. The current southern façade was added later. It was designed by Alessandro Galilei. The church remained Rome’s principal cathedral. St. Peter’s Basilica-The Basilica’s dome is the worlds largest measuring 42meters high. The interior includes 45 alters and is decorated by many famous artists.  

Volcanos in Italy

 Vesuvio-Probably most famous valcano on Earth! Extremely dangerous, killed more than 3,00 people when it erupted in November, 1980 

 Stromboli volcano- Has persistent gas plumeThe craters lie in in a large depression

 Mount Etna- Europe's largest volcanoEruptions almost continuously

                      SportsItaly is a nation of soccer enthusiasts. In local parts someone is always playing with a soccer ball. One famous soccer player was,Roberto Baggio. He was in 1994 World cup in the US.

Popular Foods

• Some popular foods in Italy are pizza and pasta. Pasta is usually grouped into different shapes with different sauces depending on that shape’s ability to hold that kind of sauce. There are two types of pizza, neapolitan and roman style pizza.

Major Rivers

• The major rivers in Italy are the Po River (this flows from the Alps near the French border, Turin, and eastward into the Adriatic sea) the Tiber River (flows from the north-central Apennines, and south through Rome, and then into the Tyrrhenian Sea) and the Arno River (flows from  the north-central Apennines, and through Florence, and then into the Tyrrhenian Sea.)

Meal time

• In Italy people don’t hurry to eat. A meal could take up to four hours. When you’re eating your hands are kept above the table, if your hands are in your lap it is improper.

Breakfast in Italy

• Breakfast is very light. They would have a roll or a cup of coffee.

Lunch and dinner time in Italy

• Lunch is the main meal of the day ands is around 1p.m. When its dinner time Pasta is usually served as a popular meal with cheese, meat, and tomato sauce on top. When a person is done eating they would have to wait until everyone is done eating.

Greeting People In Italy

• Greeting someone in Italy is very different than greeting someone in the U.S. In Italy greeting the same person of the same gender often walk arm in arm in public. Friends would often greet each other with a kiss on both checks. In the U. S. adults/children would greet each with a “Hello” or “Hi.” In the south people will often greet each other with a “Howdy.” People greet with a handshake (women/men) if the are just getting to know you. If women are close to them they might give them a hug or a family member.

Languages

• In Italy they usually speak Italian some German, some French, or Slovene but most speak Italian.
