Roles of Faculty

• Challenging students to be the best that they can be through their teaching of major knowledge areas

• Being a Faculty Mentor using their professional knowledge and connection with professions to guide mentees in career planning

• Emphasis on writing across curriculum, so that students learn how to communicate analytical results to different audiences

• Prepare students for life-long learning

• More recently, faculty are designing more experiential opportunities – project-based classes, case analysis, service-learning, supervision of internships

Roles of Academic Advisor

• Making sure that students are making progress in completing the degree programs in a timely manner.

• Advisors also provide advise for concerning course offerings and class schedules

• Provide one-on-one career coaching• Provide information on job and internship

opportunities, employment resources• Bring the business community on campus

through career expos and on-campus interviews

• Administer Albers Mentor Program

• Provide workshops on Resume Writing, Mock Interview, Social Media such as LinkedIn

• Monitoring internship for credit process

• Having in-class consulting projects, to give students with practical experiences to bring value to prospective employment situations

• Recommend good students for jobs/internships that are brought to the faculty attention by career services, alums and industry connections

Interaction Among Faculty, Advising, and Career Services

• Two and four year plans that include academics, extracurricular activities, and career development

• Providing events that will connect students with faculty and career services for students’ discernment of career issues “Profs & Pizza”, “Gear-Up Event”, “From Freshman to Professional”, “Intake Day” for various majors

• Participate in the class rooms at the Business Communication class, the Capstone class.

• Resume review as part of management classes• Capstone class include an exercise, “Living

• Internships for credit are coordinated with career services and faculty members require three papers requiring students to reflect on the application of academic content to the requirements of the internship position
