Branded Pathways Address entry-level opportunity Criteria

• Need for pathways:– 70% of CCC students do not persist a year– Counseling fails to adequately inform on effective CTE Pathways

• Pathways Criteria– Meet the immediate lifestyle needs (accessibility) of CCC student

segments for the job• A job in 6 months or less• 20,000 opportunities statewide• Entire cohorts succeed

– Industry Validation– No new Curriculum needed – 80% of college can offer

• Map existing curriculum to desire skill sets

– Market to Counselors, students, businesses

Computer Retail SalesThe first employment step for may involve working in retail sales of computers, hand held devices, networking services or cell phones.

Help Desk / User SupportThis can be an in-store or premise computer/service help function but is more usually on-line; this role requires more extensive networking and security knowledge as well as good customer service.

IT TechnicianAdvancing beyond basic Help Desk/User Support requires greater technical knowledge and specialization, as there are different directions of employment growth. The courses listed embrace key advanced concepts in security, database management, programming and virtualization.

IT Pathways – Computer Retail Sales (Sector Occupation Assessment- Sandy Jones)

• Job title(s): – Retail Salesperson (entry level), Retail Sales Support Supervisor (intermediate), Retail Sales Manager

(advanced)

• Software used: – Windows or MAC O/S & Microsoft Office Applications

• Relevant Credentials for hire: – Excellent customer service skills, work well in teams or independently, willingness to work various shifts,

weekends & holidays.

• Key Skills: – Basic knowledge of computers , familiarity with a multitude of brands and their functionality, desire to learn

new applications and platforms.

• Companies hiring: – Apple Store, Microsoft Store , Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Office Max & Costco.

• Training required: – Customer Service experience– Familiarity with Windows or MAC O/S systems

• Computer Retail DSN Field work Input– initial work by DSN Sandy Jones

• Integrated with IT MC– maps the curriculum to the Model Curriculum –

• Cross Validated by DSN’s Rose Lamuragalia, Steve Linthicum, and Markus Geissler and Nancy Jones.

• LMI data – originally from a Bay Area MPICT effort with John Careese– re-evaluated by John …then EMSI was engaged to re-validate again

• Customer Review– International Association of Microsoft Channel Partners, IAMCP, who represent many

small IT service companies in LA. • a more stringent Cisco slant to the curriculum• this is the program they need to get new technicians out there - which they need badly …• the first two courses - Business and Communications - were the most important in the

development of a good technician.
