IRAN STATISTICAL YEARBOOK 1391 23. POLITICAL AFFAIRS

Introduction he statistics presented in this chapter consist of statistical information on different presidential rounds, number of electorates and number of voters in various presidential, the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Islamic City and Village Councils election rounds as well as foreign diplomatic missions in Iran. The first political statistics on the government's diplomatic missions in various countries, number of reliable treaties signed with other governments and number of National Consultative Assembly members have been collected since 1348 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute for Social Studies and Researches, National Consultative Assembly and Ministry of the Interior. These data have been included in Iran Statistical Yearbook. Moreover, the collection of these data continued until the year 1357. After the Islamic Revolution victory, the data pertaining to different diplomatic missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in various countries, the foreign diplomatic missions of other countries in Iran, international organizations in which Iran is a member, the list of the ratifications of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and list of bills and plans not approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly, etc. would be collected and disseminated and also included in the Statistical Yearbook till the year 1362. Afterwards, political statistics were not published due to a variety of reasons till the

year 1385. However, as a result of continuous follow-ups in the year 1387, the statistics on this section were collected from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior and appeared in the 1386 Statistical Yearbook.It should be noted that although Table 23-12 does not provide statistical information, owing to some needs for the nation's political information, it is presented in this chapter.

Selected informationFrom the year 1358 to the year 1392, there were eleven presidential election rounds in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The percentage of public participation in the eleventh presidential election was about 77 percent. The percentage of public participation in the ninth electoral round of the Islamic Consultative Assembly reached 64 percent showing a nine percent increase compared with the previous election.The parliament comprises 286 members in the ninth round, out of whom 277 representatives were male and 9 were female. A number of 281 representatives hold bachelor's and higher degree.In the fourth round of the election of the Islamic City and Rural Council, 179315 persons were elected, out of whom 173219 persons were male and the rest was female.In the year 1391, out of the world's countries, 95 countries had foreign diplomatic missions in Iran (stationed in Tehran), out of which 11 countries had consulate general or consulate in other cities in addition to Tehran.
