Amplification of a synthetic microRNA was performed using the miRCURY
LNA™ microRNA PCR system. Hsa-miR-100 (2 × 108 copies) input was used
to generate cDNA. A ten-fold serial dilution ranging from 2 × 109 copies to
2 copies cDNA was amplified by real-time PCR. A. The amplification curves
and B. the standard curve show excellent linear correlation between the
decreasing cycle numbers and the logarithm of the microRNA copy number,
proving the assay enables sensitive microRNA detection down to less than
10 copies with a wide dynamic range of at least 8 logs.

Genomics of Energy & Environment is the topic the 2008 Department of Energy Joint
Genome Institute (DOE JGI) User Meeting, which will be held March 26-28 in Walnut Creek, California. This year's meeting
will specifically emphasize the genomics of renewable energy strategies, biomass conversion to biofuels, environ-
mental gene discovery, and engineering of fuel-producing organisms. A series of presentations by leading scien-
tists advancing these topics will feature a keynote address by Nobel Laureate Steven Chu, Director of Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory. The meeting will also include informatics workshops and tutorials for the analysis of
prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes, and the evaluation of new sequencing platforms and their applications. Poster

Multi-Application Imaging and AnalysisThe G:BOX Chemi XT16 automated chemiluminescence andfluorescence imagingandanalysis system featuresmany innovations.Inside a newly designed light-tight darkroom, the latest 16-bitcamera with a new f 0.95 variable aperture lens makes it possibleto quickly produce accurate images of large gels and blots. TheG:BOX Chemi XT16 offers computer control of its motor-driven stage,which allows the system to memorize set positions for specificapplications. The camera, with sensitive effective 6.3-megapixelresolution, is ultracooled to guarantee the instrument can separateclose band and spot images with virtually no background noise,even when imaging chemiluminescence blots for long exposuretimes. In addition, the darkroom comes with a state-of-the-artoverhead white epi-lighting module, an ultraviolet to visible lightNovaGlo converter screen, and a 20-cm-by-20-cm ultraviolettransilluminator to allow rapid and accurate imaging of common DNAand protein stains such as ethidium bromide, SYBR Green, SYBRSafe, Coomassie blue, Deep Purple, Pro-Q Diamond, silver stain, andSYPRO Ruby. Tissue Section ScanningThe Acumen eX3 is well suited to scanning tissue sections mountedon microscope slides due to its large field of view (400 mm2),which enables the rapid collection of multicolored fluorescencedata from whole sections of tissue without the need to stitchtogether multiple images. The Acumen eX3 provides several modesof use. Cytometry mode rapidly scans, analyzes, and reportshigh-content information yielding very small postscan file sizes(>50kb).
