Poinsettia Plants
The Advent and Christmas seasons are just around the corner, and with them come the thoughts of the beautiful poinsettia plants that bring extra added beauty to our surroundings during this time of the year. Wesley Church once again offers the opportunity to purchase poinsettias in memory of or in honor of family, friends, and loved ones. However, because of the Bethlehem setting in the sanctuary, the plants will be placed to adorn various locations such as the Market and Third Street entrance areas. Poinsettias will be available in red, white, or pink at a cost of $9.50 per plant.
Don’t forget that, in addition to placing poinsettias at Wesley Church, there is the option of placing plants at Geisinger’s House of Care for the enjoyment of those staying there during the Christmas season.
Forms to order poinsettia plants are included with today’s worship folder and are available at various locations throughout the church — specifically at the Market Street Hospitality Table, the Third Street desk, and the Murray Avenue Donation Station.
Poinsettia plants for Wesley Church will be put in place for Sunday, December 16. They may be removed following the 11 p.m. Christmas Eve worship service. If you do not want your poinsettia(s), please find a friend, relative, or a shut-in who might appreciate the gesture during the Christmas season. Please note: when placing orders for poinsettias, it is important to use one form per plant, and be sure to include the total cost in cash or check when submitting your order (checks should be made payable to Wesley Church Flower Fund). The deadline to order poinsettia plants is Friday, November 30.
Giant Food Stores & Weis Markets Gift Cards
You can purchase Cash for Causes gift cards for Giant Food Stores and Weis Markets that will help G.L.O.W. earn cash for their 2019 mission trip. Sue Frederick will have gift cards available every Sunday morning, in the Coffee Café. Cards are available in amounts of $25, $50, or $100 — and, you get dollar for dollar what you spend. Don’t forget: Cash for Causes gift cards make terrific gifts during this season of giving. Your purchase will not only provide a gift for someone, but you will be helping the youth, too. Here is an example of what the youth will earn: $500 of gift cards = $25. The profit for the youth is 5%. This is an easy way to support the youth. The cards can be purchased with cash or checks. Checks should be made payable to Wesley United Methodist Church and in the memo line write – “Cash for Causes.”
Cash for Causes will be an ongoing fundraiser, so you can purchase cards on Sunday mornings or E-mail or call Sue ([email protected] or 570.387.0402 or 570.594.1914) to get gift cards to you.
It’s the first day of Advent when we Christians begin celebrating the coming of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Celebration and worship are the means of proclaiming Advent. Come worship; sing the carols of Christmas, listen to the God-given talented voices, instrumentalists, and entertainers of our community. This is an event you won’t want to miss. Mark your
calendars now, and plan to attend.
A love offering will be taken to help the AGAPE Heating Assistance Fund.

Wesley’s Hands-To-Hearts Committee is once again looking forward to sponsoring the church’s annual “Birthday Party for Jesus.” Parents: Do you need a little spare, uninterrupted time to do some Christmas shopping, decorating, card writing, etc.? Then bring your children to this event, and give yourselves a couple of hours for your own busyness. This favorite children’s activity takes place in the social room and is for children ages 2 - 8. There will be singing, games, crafts, a birthday party, and a special visit from the big man with a white beard. All children are welcome. If you are interested, please complete this form, and return it to the church office by Monday, November 26 — it can be placed in the offering plate or mailed or dropped off.
Please note: all children who attend should bring a gift of a non-perishable food item to benefit the Bloomsburg Food Cupboard. ___________________________________________

O God, whose will is justice for the poor and peace for the afflicted, let Your herald’s urgent voice pierce our hardened hearts and announce the dawn of Your kingdom. Before the advent of the One who baptizes with the fire of the Holy Spirit, let our complacency give way to conversion, oppression to justice, and conflict to acceptance of one another in Christ. We ask this through the One whose coming is certain, whose day draws near: Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Wesley’s New Security System To Soon Be Fully Operational
Installation of Wesley’s new security system is completed and will be fully operational by the end of the month. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the doors to the church will remain locked at all times, and only staff and those with a code will gain access to the building. All other persons will be ‘buzzed-in” either by the volunteer receptionist or the church administrative assistant.
The church office, as well as the receptionist’s desk in the office wing, are equipped with monitors that show the various locations of the church and any activity that takes place in those areas where cameras are located.
Please note: the church doors will be open on those occasions when there are Bible studies, meetings, and other events and activities at the church.
The staff and the Board of Trustees ask your patience during the early stages of implementing this system.
UMW Head Start Christmas Project Begins Next Sunday
The Wesley Women will once again sponsor one of the most important, and one of the most popular, mission outreach events of the year — the Head Start Children’s Christmas Project. Members of the congregation have the opportunity to take part by helping to provide gifts for more than one hundred Head Start children and their siblings. This year’s project will begin next Sunday, November 25. At that time, information will be available following both worship services. Names, ages, clothing sizes, and short wish lists for each child may be obtained in the multi-purpose room. The deadline to return the gifts will be Sunday, December 16.
Because of the Wesley congregation, Christmas is made much brighter for needy children in the Bloomsburg area. Thank you for your generous response to this project each year.
UMW Christmas Luncheon
All women of Wesley are invited to be part of this year’s UMW Christmas Luncheon to be held on Wednesday, December 12, at 12 noon, at Pine Barn Inn. Brittany Drumm will provide the musical entertainment. The cost will be $20 per person for a buffet-style lunch. To attend, make a reservation by November 30. Contact Madelyn Miller (570.784.1203) or Judy Ryan (570.389.9327) to reserve your space.
Cranberry Sauce and Pies Needed for Saturday’s Meal
This Saturday, November 24, the E-Team will be in charge of the Community Friendship Meal, and many of you have already offered your services. At this time, homemade pies and cranberry sauce are the only items still needed. If you can offer either, or both, of these items, please indicate your willingness to do so on today’s Communication Card. Thank you for helping to feed those who attend the weekly soup kitchen meal.
Happy 100th Birthday, Irene Moser
It is always an extreme pleasure to be able to celebrate an auspicious occasion — such as the 100th birthday of someone special. Yesterday, November 17, Wesley member, Irene Moser marked that 100th birthday milestone. Irene has been part of the Wesley congregation for over sixty years. She is quite an active individual who often can be seen working in her garden at her home in Sherwood Village.
Thank you, Irene, for your faithfulness — and “happy birthday!” Celebrate — and celebrate some more!
