Instructional Support Faculty Survey– Assessment
• Of the approximately 35 faculty cited individuals whom they worked with, there was an even distribution of instructional support staff. All of our full-time staff had at least 20% of the respondents working with them.
• Comments regarding customer service:
UMB wikis have changed my life. keep supporting them.
Irene is very competent and had helped me a great deal as a new faculty member teaching on-line. Her ideas for student participation and engagement in WIMBA are guiding the changes I am making to my course for next Fall.
A helpful, dedicated group of people.
People are great. System is inadequate and obsolete.
Eileen is great
It is very helpful that Gene is so available and willing to help. His teaching style works for me.
• “Right-sourcing” our requests for help:
• Making the extended (24/7) support model work to our advantage
• Leveraging diverse talents among our team members
• Including students in our faculty support teams
• Integrating our support with that of the IT Service Desk
• Reconciling Google Apps for Education vs. Google.com
• Combining traditional training models with online and “on demand” training resources (examples: SafeAssign, Presenter). As we train an increasing number of faculty on Blackboard Vista and Blackboard Learn 9, we may choose to expand our 2010 pilot, which offered self-paced online training courses/modules that include assessment and possibly even certification
Instructional Support Challenges
1. Plan and implement Blackboard Learn 9 Pilot, including system integration for our campus
2. Market the UMB Blog Network for teaching, learning and communications
3. Review presentation software tools and services to complement MS Powerpoint
4. Update Adobe Connect Pro license and train users
5. Pilot mobile devices and applications
6. Promote management and use of Open Educational Resources
7. Investigate and pilot iClicker 2

Commendations
Just want to thank you and all the others who made the
audio portion of the CPCS Convocation go so smoothly last
Friday night. I appreciate the help with the recording of the
student comments and the playing of music and the early set
up that accommodated my schedule. Thanks to everyone
involved in making it so simple that even I could do it and
do it right!.

Ed Tech – Classroom Technologies
Commendations
I am writing this letter to express my most sincere gratitude and appreciation for the support I have received over the last few years from Chris Pahud. Chris has been consistently available to help with all the various classroom IT problems I have experienced while teaching in the Science auditoriums and other classrooms across campus. In addition, he has been an invaluable resource with Camtasia. For several semesters now he has come to my classroom every week at the beginning of the class to make sure the equipment is functioning properly. This semester he has also helped me in the new classroom in the Archives building, which we now lovingly refer to as „Fort Apache,‟ due to all the unanticipated obstacles we have encountered in making that space functional in terms of media technology.
Not only has Chris (and now his graduate student Vish) been regularly available, he is also friendly and patient, listening to my concerns and then trying to reconcile them to the best of his ability. Even my students recognize him in class each week and are glad to see he is there to make sure the lectures are recorded smoothly.
Thank you to Chris and everyone else in your department who work so hard to support us in the classroom .
Sincerely,
Esther Seibold, DNSc, RN

• Our responsibility to the campus community is to provide general access to computers, software and support in an area that is suitable to research, teaching and peer to peer sharing of information.
• There are labs (240 seats) in General Use Lab (GUL); they consist of the Blue, Gold, Purple, White and Red PC labs and Mac A and C Macintosh labs. The Red lab is the only lab not used for classroom instruction and is available for use during open hours and some holidays.
• The Green lab no longer functions as a classroom lab it has been transformed into the Decision Making Research lab.
• The Graduate Research Center (GRC) provides a quiet environment for writing and research it is for use by graduate students and faculty. The lab has 37 hardwired PC workstations. Within the lab you can scan text, create high quality 35mm slides and produce posters ranging in size from 8.5in x 11in. to 36in x 96in.
• The Adaptive Computer Lab (ACL) offers accommodations via computers and software for students with Orthopedic, Visual and Learning disabilities, Deafness or hearing impairments, Acquired brain injuries and Communication disorders. Students using the ACL are referred by the Ross Center.

Ed-Tech Operations (Labs) Assessment
• The labs are used continually during the hours of operation, with the increase number of exams being held in the labs requiring lab availability anywhere from 4 to 8 hours at a time; we are limited in the amount of time needed for upgrades, maintenance turnaround time and cleaning of the labs and equipment.
• I have scheduled additional lab cleaning times for each of the labs, allowing for a morning and mid-afternoon cleaning.
• Dedicated lab for university new student and transfer orientations
• We need larger labs; currently on the Blue lab can seat 35 students, as you can imagine everyone is looking to use it.
• A lab dedicated for Blackboard Testing. The requirements for Blackboard testing are unique and require existing labs to be reconfigured.
Ed-Tech Operations (Labs) FY 12 Goals
• Replace computers in the Graduate Research Center [if funding approved]
• Replace furniture in the White and Blue lab [if funding approved]
• One common computer image across the labs and the library
• ACL marketing of services & training
• Virtual computer lab – pilot and testing
• Upgrade and maintenance of the Taylor center
• Improving the environment within the labs
• a. Painting of walls
• b. Posters that promote student services
• Portable AC units for White and Blue lab – work with facilities
• Portable AC units for White and Blue lab – work with facilities
