General Rules and Instructions

1. Registration

a. Institution registration fee is Rs. 4000/-. Last date for the registration is March 15, 2016.

b. Only bona-fide university students will be allowed to participate.

c. All participants must bring their original CNIC and Student ID card.

d. Foreign Students: If any foreign student is interested in participating please send copy of

Passport with a cover letter from the university before March 15, 2016.

e. Original CNIC & University ID card for university coordinator is obligatory.

f. Limited number of supporters per competition will be entertained depending upon the

availability of seats.

g. On-spot registration will be subject to the availability of positions in respective competitions.

2. General Judgment Criteria

a. Decision of the respected judges will be final and cannot be challenged.

b. Themes/ Medium/ Titles and time limits will be followed strictly.

c. 1st, 2

nd, 3

rd prizes shall be awarded for each category of the competition but only one prize will

be given if the competitors are less than 5 (five) in any competition.

d. Use of indecent language, derogatory remarks (whether direct or implied) about national

leaders, political parties, government agencies, religious sects and teachers are strictly

prohibited.

e. Any team found involved in any type of cheating (PDAs, Palm-tops, cell-phones etc.) will be

disqualified with immediate effect.

f. Participants of all competitions are required to be present at the stated venue 30 minutes before

the time as mentioned in the program.

g. Host will assign performance slots to the participants.

h. Walk over will be given if team/player fails to reach the venue later than 5 minutes in sports

Competition.

3. Disqualifications

a. Any institution’s pictures/ artwork/ video exhibiting vulgarity or racism, sex or religious

discrimination will be disqualified.

b. All routines, music, choreography and costumes must be suitable for family viewing. IST

reserves the right to deduct points, disallow or disqualify any act without assigning any reason,

including those considered distasteful or vulgar.

c. IST expects that all competitors/participants will treat other participants, judges, and

competitors with respect and represent themselves well. Failure to do so may result in

disqualification from the event.

d. Competitors must make no attempt to manipulate the rules and regulations to their advantage

or to the advantage of any competitor.

e. The use of tobacco or any other drug at IST premises is strictly prohibited.

f. The following violation(s) may result in the immediate disqualification of the competitor from

the competition:

i. Distracting or interfering with any competitor, who is preparing for, or attempting, an act.

ii. Distracting or interfering with any official while they are carrying out their duties.

i. Failure to comply with the instructions of the official judges and/or the organizers.

g. Any sort of abusive language is not allowed.

h. Any team found to be employing unfair-means shall be disqualified immediately.

i. Decision of judges and IST shall be final and cannot be challenged. However, in case of any

dispute, the Deputy Director Department of Student Affairs (IST) shall give the final verdict.

4. Overall Champion of IST Youth Carnival 2016

a. Each university will be allotted 15 points for first place, 10 points for the second place and 7

points for the third place in each competition. At the end of all competitions, the team scoring

maximum points in all competitions will be declared as the “Overall Champion of IST Youth

Carnival 2016”. Overall Champion of IST Youth Carnival 2016 will be awarded champion

trophy and prize money.

b. The host institution, Institute of Space Technology will participate but will not compete for the

prizes.

5. Accommodation

a. No accommodation is available in IST hostels. Limited accommodation will be arranged in

Islamabad Youth Hostel during the event days for the out-stationed students and faculty

members only on first come first serve basis.

b. If accommodation is required, please notify on the registration form along with an additional

PKR 2400/- per participant (for four nights- Dormitory)

Or

PKR 1900/- per night (twin sharing room)

c. IST will provide transport for the participants living in Islamabad Youth Hostel only on the

event days.

Note: IST reserves the rights to change details / rules and regulations of the

competitions without any prior notice.

1. Qiraat Competition

a. Each institution will nominate ONE participant for this competition but there can be more than

one participant from one institution.

b. Each participant will be given a maximum of 4 minutes to recite the verses from The Holy

Quran.

c. If a participant makes a mistake while reciting, and the mistake was corrected by the judges,

the student will lose points.

d. Similarly, if a student makes a mistake and fails to adhere to Tajweed rules, and the mistake is

corrected by the judges, the student will lose points as well.

e. No point will be deducted by the judges for any mistake in Tilawah, Hifdh or Tajweed if the

student corrects himself/herself without the evaluator’s help. The judges will give the student a

chance for self-correction.

f. It is also advised to prepare a slideshow or a power point presentation of the verses you chose

to recite along with the translation in English for the audience to understand and bring it with

you.

2. Hamd/Naat Competition

a. Each institution will nominate ONE participant for this competition but there can be more than

one participant from one institution.

b. Hamd/Naat should be in Urdu language.

c. The Hamd or Naat should have a maximum of four verses.

d. No repetition of verses will be made.

e. Each participant will be allotted maximum 5 minutes to recite his/her selection.

f. All recitations must be delivered by memory.

g. The competitive assessment will be based on five factors: Quality of content , Correct

pronunciation ,Confidence in delivery , Quality of memorization, Quality of recitation

h. Tune must not copy or based on songs.

i. In case of large number of participants, the competition will be held in two rounds. In the first

round judges will qualify top five participants in each category; who then will compete in the

second round for determination of the first, second, and third position. In such a case, the

participants will be required to recite a different Hamd or Naat in the second round. Therefore,

each participant should be mentally prepared for reciting two Hamds or Naats.

3. Bilingual Declamation Contest

a. Each team is to be represented by TWO speakers only; one to speak in Urdu and other in

English. There can be more than one team from one institution.

b. One speaker from each team will be required to speak on serious topic and other on humorous

one.

c. A speaker may speak for a minimum of four minutes and a maximum of six minutes. Marks

will be deducted for failing to wind up within the stipulated time.

d. Three prizes in each category will be awarded.

e. Paper reading is not allowed. Any speaker violating this rule will be penalized.

f. No speaker is allowed to pass derogatory remarks about national leaders, religious and social

controversies, defence services, court of law or government agencies. Violation of this

instruction shall lead to his/her disqualification from the competition and the speaker will be

requested to leave the stage immediately.

4. Essay Writing

a. The Bilingual Essay writing competition shall be held in Urdu and English.

b. The invited institutions are requested to prepare TWO participants in Bilingual Essay Writing

Competition.

i. English Essay Writing 1 participant

ii. Urdu Essay Writing 1 participant

c. The topics of competition shall be unveiled at the start of the competition.

d. The time of essay writing will be two hours.

e. The evaluation will be based on content, flow, vocabulary, grammar, and originality of ideas.

f. Consultation of any material during the competition is not allowed & will be tantamount

towards disqualification.

g. Essay should not be less than 1500 words.

h. Extra time will not be given in any case.

i. Sheets and pens will be provided by IST.

5. Story Writing

a. The Bilingual Story writing competition shall be held in Urdu and English.

b. The invited institutions are requested to prepare TWO participants in Story Writing.

i. English Story Writing 1 participant

ii. Urdu Story Writing 1 participant

c. The outline of story writing competition will be unveiled at the start of the competition.

d. The time of story writing will be two hours

e. The evaluation will be based on content, flow, vocabulary, grammar, and originality of ideas.

f. Consultation of any material during the competition is not allowed & will be tantamount

towards disqualification.

g. No story should be less than 1500 words.

h. Extra time will not be given in any case.

i. Sheets will be provided by IST.

6. Journalism Competition

a. A maximum of FOUR participants from each institution can register for this competition. This

competition is NOT a team effort. Each participant must submit an individual piece of work.

b. At the commencement of IYC, each participant will be covering the IST Youth Carnival- 2016.

c. The submitted piece must be of 1000 words.

d. Articles must be relevant to the subject of the event and must be produced within the time

limitations specified.

f. Each participant is required to submit his/her work to the Journalism Event manager/

coordinator in a digital format (doc, docx) on USB by April 02, 2016 1000hrs.

g. The news reports will be peer reviewed by the Journalism team and the top reports will be

published & distributed on IYC website.

7. Urdu Poetry Competition

a. A maximum of TWO students are allowed to participate from an institution – ONE for Nazm

and ONE for Ghazal .There can be more than two participants from one institution subject to

the availability of slots.

b. Ghazal should be created according to the given Trha Misra.

c. Each participant has to submit four copies of Ghazal/Nazm at least one hour before the start of

competition.

d. The Nazm should fall under the given title.

e. Nasri nazm will not be acceptable.Only azad nazm or paband nazm will be accepted.

f. The poetry must be the original work of the participant.

g. Ghazal to contain maximum of 5 verses.

h. Maximum time for Nazm is 3 minutes.

8. Redefining Pakistan

a. One institution can register ONE team of 5-8 members including the head of the national

office with three ministries that the team considers to be of top priority.

b. Each team must propose a five year plan of its government also highlighting the reason behind

the priority of ministries.

c. For the first stage the team must propose solutions to the problems of these ministries in a 20

minute power point presentation which is mandatory with a written report that is optional.

d. The power point presentation can comprise of audio, video, stills and other visual aids.

e. The team should avoid useless debate rather their arguments should be based on actual facts

pertaining to the situation in Pakistan. The solution should be sustainable and realistic.

f. For the second stage, a new problem will be presented to the participants at the end of the first

stage and they will have to propose its political solution in a 10 minutes long power point

presentation after a 1.5 hour break.

g. Each team must present a hand written one pager solution to the problem before every stage to

the organizer.

h. The teams can be disqualified if the data shown is fake and is not properly referenced.

i. The team will also sit through 5 min question and answer session from audience and other

teams.

j. Teams will also be awarded extra points for pointing out actual flaws in the solutions of other

participants.

9. Community Learning Workshop and Competition

a. One institution can register ONE team of 3-5 members.

b. The event will comprise of two stages.

c. In first stage, resource persons will give a workshop pertaining to community service

management and the steps taken to solve the issues faced by a local community in the best

possible manner.

d. The second stage comprises of a brainstorming session, in which all teams will device solution

to the issue presented by the body on spot, while remaining in the constrains of budget, number

of volunteers, demography, political scenario etc.

e. The solution presented must be wholesome, sustainable with high impact factor and must cater

the realistic issues of community service.

f. The team should avoid useless debate rather their arguments should be based on actual facts

pertaining to the situation in Pakistan.

g. The audience will be allowed to ask question from the team as well

10. Painting

a. Each institution will nominate ONE participant for this competition but there may be more

than one participant from one institution.

b. The theme for the painting competition will be “Dreams”.

c. The time of the competition will be 3 hours.

d. The host will provide drawing sheets only. Participants must bring their own paints, brushes,

and sketching material.

e. The paintings will be judged on the basis of innovation, originality, color combinations, visual

appeal and relevance to the theme.

f. Paintings will remain the property of IST.

11. Sketching

a. The invited institutions can nominate more than ONE participant.

b. The theme for Sketching will be “Peace”.

c. The time of the competition will be 3 hours.

d. The host will provide drawing sheets only. Participants must bring their own sketching

material.

e. The paintings will be judged on the basis of innovation, originality, color combinations, visual

appeal and relevance to the theme.

f. Sketches will remain the property of IST.

12. Visage Canvas

a. The idea of the Visage Canvas is to prepare the face cast of a person (using Plaster of Paris),

and then to paint this cast to reflect an idea, concept or personality.

b. Each team will consist of THREE individuals. One individual will prepare the face cast of the

other. After that, both can paint the cast.

c. The time of the competition will be 3 hours.

d. All the raw material will be provided by the host except the painting equipment (paints,

brushes pencils etc.). The participants must bring their own painting equipment.

e. There is no restriction on the medium of painting.

f. Judgment will be based on the title, smoothness of the cast, innovation, originality, color

combinations and visual appeal.

g. The artwork will remain the property of IST.

13. Calligraphy

a. The invited institutions can nominate more than ONE participant.

b. Participants must bring their own paints, brushes, and necessary material.

c. No more than 5 ayahs can be calligraphed.

d. The time of the competition will be 3 hours.

e. Participants should use known Arabic calligraphic scripts (e.g Nastaleeq, Thuluth, Naskh,

Kufic, Ruqa’h, etc.) for their artwork.

f. The calligraphic scripts must display uniformity, proportionality and consistency of lettering in

accordance with the original Quranic text.

g. The artwork will remain the property of IST.

14. Wall Graffiti

a. Each team will consist of TWO individuals. There can be more than one team from each

institution.

b. The theme will be provided on spot.

c. Graffiti will be done on the wall allocated by the host.

d. Work should be original.

e. The participants should bring their paints and other required material.

15. Photography

a. Photo Story (Prepared)

i. Each team will consist of ONE individual only. Theme: “YOUTH AND PEACE”

ii. Participants are required to narrate a story or an idea by using just the medium of

photography.

iii. Each story may contain maximum of 5 photos along with name/title of the story only.

iv. The photo story should be self-explanatory and no words shall be used to explain the

story.

v. Size: 10×12 inches (Untreated; without frames but mounted on the black sheet).

vi. Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity and relevance to the theme.

Vii The artwork will remain the property of IST.

b. On Spot Photography

i. Each team will consist of ONE individual only.

ii. Participants will submit a total of 10 pictures on the theme “IST Youth Carnival-

2016” and all the pictures need to be captured at IST.

iii. Participants are expected to have their own equipment (Cameras, laptops, tripods and all).

iv. IST will not provide any technical help.

v. The pictures must be submitted on a CD/DVD/flash drive and number them 1-6,

by April 02, 2016, 1200hrs.

vi. In the CD/DVD write your institution Name, name of all the team members and contact

details of all the team members in a word file or a notepad.

vii. Editing of photos is STRONGLY discouraged.

viii. If the photograph includes other individuals, such individuals should have permitted the

participant to take and use the photograph, In case of any complaints participant will be

disqualified.

c. Selfie Contest

i. The organizers reserve the right to amend the contest period at any time. All entries

received outside the contest period will be disqualified. Timings and theme will be

conveyed by the registration desk on the first day of the event.

ii. Participants may submit group selfie only. Individual selfie or any inappropriate picture

(or background) will be disqualified.

iii. Selfie should be taken within IST premises.

iv. All entries submitted must fulfill the following requirements:

1) Participants must log on to the IST Media Club Page at www.facebook.com/

istmediaclub and “Like” the page to become a fan.

2) Participants will then submit a group Selfie. The photo must be submitted via a wall

post with a caption that ends with #IYC #istmediaclub #IST #SelfieContest

3) Submit your pictures and register your names/institution on the registration desk on

the 3rd day of the event before 12pm.

v. In order to participate in this contest, each entry submitted must complete all three

steps mentioned above. Any incomplete entries will be automatically disqualified.

vi. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on creativity, originality and

relevancy of the photos submitted to the contest theme.

16. e-Poster Competition

a. There will be maximum TWO participants from each institution.

b. This will be an on spot designing competition.

c. Maximum time allowed is 2 hours.

d. A theme for the poster will be allotted on the spot.

e. Participants will not be allowed to bring along any pre-made stuff.

f. Internet facilities will be provided.

g. Software’s like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Corel draw, MS Paint may be used.

h. The participants will have to hand over the PSDs (Photoshop files) to the event heads at the end.

i. Your poster will be judged based on your idea, creativity, execution and special effects.

17. Logo Designing Competition

a. There will be maximum TWO participants from each institution.

b. This will be an on spot designing competition.

c. Maximum time allowed is 2 hours.

d. A theme for the logo will be allotted on the spot.

e. Participants will not be allowed to bring along any pre-made stuff.

f. Internet facilities will be provided.

g. Software’s like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Corel draw, MS Paint may be used.

h. The participants will have to hand over the PSDs (Photoshop files) to the vent heads at the end.

i. Your logo will be judged based on your idea, creativity, execution and special effects.

18. T – Shirt Designing Competition

a. There will be maximum TWO participants from each institution.

b. This will be an on spot designing competition.

c. Maximum time allowed is 2 hours.

d. A theme will be allotted on the spot.

e. Participants will not be allowed to bring along any pre-made stuff.

f. Internet facilities will be provided.

g. Software’s like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Corel draw, MS Paint may be used.

h. The participants will have to hand over the PSDs (Photoshop files) to the event heads at the end.

i. Your design will be judged based on your idea, creativity, execution and special effects.

19. Short Film Competition

a. Each team has to present a video on any open topic of their choice with a clear theme.

b. No video should be less than the minimum time limit (4 minutes).

c. No video should exceed the maximum time limit (7 minutes). Marks will be deducted for each

extra minute.

d. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on creativity, originality and relevancy

Judges are the ultimate authority and no one can challenge their decision.

e. Participating teams are not allowed to portray any content in their videos which is below moral

standards.

f. Animated videos will not be catered.

g. Each team can comprise 3 members (director + editor + writer) at the most.

h. Videos (Films / Documentaries) will be played on a multimedia projector (1200 X 800 pixels)

and big screen (15 X 10 ft.); therefore they must be formatted on CD’s / USB. No VHS

recording will be entertained.

i. The participants must bring a copy of their work (CD/ DVD) at least one day before the

competition in order to screen test the documentary/ short film.

20. Drama Competition

a. Maximum 2 teams can participate in a drama from a university/college.

b. Each team may consist of maximum of twenty five individuals but not more than that.

c. Each team has to present a drama on any topic of their choice with a clear theme and message.

d. No drama should be less than the minimum time limit (12 minutes)

e. No drama should exceed the maximum time limit (20 minutes).

f. Marks will be deducted in case of violation of time limits.

g. For stage setting a maximum of 5 minutes will be provided prior to performance. If this limit is

exceeded, the additional time will be counted in the performance.

h. Judges are the ultimate authority and no one can challenge their decision.

i. Participating teams are not allowed to portray any content in their performances which is

below moral standards. In case of violation, performance will be disqualified.

j. In case of any activity that may cause harm to facilities provided by IST (stage, mics, etc.) will

result in immediate disqualification of teams.

k. IST Team will only provide the following items:

i. 2 tables and 4 chairs

ii. Spotlight

iii. Par can lights

iv. Computer (one of the team members would operate the computer)

v. Sound system

vi. 2 Micro phones and 2 stage mic stands

Note: directional lights or UV lights will not be available.

l. Anything not mentioned in the list will have to be arranged by the teams themselves.

Participants are supposed to set the stage prior to their performance and remove their

belongings from the stage when their performance is over.

m. Based on the quality of synopsis and the script of the play, the teams will be shortlisted and

displayed on the social media page

n. Drama containing derogatory remarks/ abusive language will not be allowed.

o. Slots are limited, so the selection of the dramas will be based on the quality of synopsis and the

script of the play.

p. The student must send copy of their script for the drama with registration forms by March 25,

2016.

q. IST will not provide any gadget/instruments that are involved in performance. Participants

have to bring their own props/instruments.

r. The house sound system will be provided by the IST team and will be scaled to the venue used

and reasonable requirements of the contestants. The event heads will have absolute control

over the sound system.

s. Only those props are allowed that can be carried on by the performer or performers assistant

that do not require extensive set-ups. Fire, smoke, knives, liquid colours, animals or any other

prohibited material/activity will not be allowed.

t. No modification to stage acts, equipment or sound is to be made to create any attraction

without the approval of the event managers and coordinator.

21. MIME Competition

a. Each team can have a maximum of 10 members.

b. The time limit is 5-8 minutes for each team. Negative points for exceeding the time.

c. No act shall contain any offensive, obscene, disrespectful actions or gestures. The act will be

immediately stopped and the entry will be disqualified.

d. Points will be given on the basis of innovation, depiction of the situation, team work and

expressions.

e. Maximum 2 teams can participate in drama from a university/college.

f. IST will only provide the following items:

i. 2 tables and 4 chairs

ii. Spotlight

iii. Par can lights

iv. Computer (one of the team members would operate the computer)

v. Sound system

vi. 2 Micro phones and 2 stage mic stands

Note: directional lights or UV lights will not be available.

g. The student must send copy of their script for the drama with registration forms by March 24, 2016.

h. Only those props are allowed that can be carried on by the performer or performers assistant

that do not require extensive set-ups. Fire, smoke, knives, animals or any other prohibited

material/activity will not be allowed.

i. No modification to stage acts, equipment or sound is to be made to create any attraction

without the approval of the event managers and coordinator.

j. Anything not mentioned in the list will have to be arranged by the teams themselves.

k. Participating teams are not allowed to portray any content in their performances which is

below moral standards. In case of violation, performance will be disqualified.

22. Dance Competition

a. The performance can be solo or group dance/team. Awards will be given in two categories,

Solo and Group.

b. Maximum 2 teams can participate in dance competition from a university/college.

c. The team will qualify for the final round after the auditions.

d. On spot registration will also be done on a day before the event

e. Each team has to submit their track/audio sound to the organizer at time of registration

f. Dance could be of any type either

i. Break Dance

ii. Folk Dance

iii. Cultural Dances (Provincial)

g. No dance should be less than the minimum time limit (2 minutes)

h. No dance should exceed the maximum time limit (4 minutes).

i. Marks will be deducted in case of violation of the time limit.

j. Participating teams are not allowed to portray any content in their performances which is

below moral standards. In case of violation, performance will be disqualified.

k. In case of any activity that may cause harm to facilities provided by IST (stage, mics, etc.) will

result in immediate disqualification of teams.

l. Host Team will only provide the following items:

i. 1 x Spotlight

ii. 2 x Stands Par can lights

iii. Computer (one of the team members would operate the computer)

iv. Sound system

m. Anything not mentioned in the list will have to be arranged by the teams themselves.

Participants are supposed to set the stage prior to their performance and remove their

belongings from the stage when they are over with their performance, at their own.

n. IST will not provide any gadget/instruments that are involved in performance except for above

mentioned. Participants have to bring their own props/instruments.

o. Only those props are allowed that can be carried on by the performer or performers assistant

that do not require extensive set-ups. Fire, smoke, knives, animals or any other prohibited

material/activity will not be allowed.

without the approval of the event managers and coordinator.

23. Singing Competition

a. One University/Institution can nominate 3 singers. They may be in the form of one student

performing solo and two students performing duet or all three students performing solo..

b. The event will comprise of two rounds: Auditions and Competition.

c. Auditions will be on Thursday, March 31, 2016. Top 15 performances will qualify for the

competition.

d. The competition will be on Friday April 01, 2016.

e. Solo and Duet performance are allowed.

f. Unethical/ immoral content will not be allowed.

g. Duration of each performance must be between 3-5 minutes.

h. In qualification round, each singer can perform a maximum of 2 songs. One of his/her own

choice and other from random selection of songs decided by the judges

i. Judgment of solo and duet singing will be combined.

j. Orchestra will be provided for the final round.

k. Mishandling of equipment or misbehavior with judges or managing team would result in

deduction of marks/disqualification.

24. Battle of the Bands

a. This will be a performance based competition between musical bands.

b. All members should be university students.

c. Each band will be allotted a maximum time of 5-7 minutes.

d. Self-composed songs will be given extra points.

e. Performers will have to bring their own instruments. Only a 5 Piece drumset will be provided

with the sound system and mixing equipment.

f. Each band will perform a maximum of 2 songs.

g. Use of virtual music/karaoke will not be allowed.

25. Business Plan

a. Each institution will nominate ONE team, comprising of maximum 6 participants

b. Competition includes a 1 minute “elevator pitch” and 10 min “Business Plan Presentation”.

c. Fresh ideas will be encouraged; a business idea that has already qualified for finals in previous

business plan competition is not eligible.

d. Soft copies of “Executive Summary” and complete “Business plan” document shall be

submitted to the designated coordinator before March 24, 2016.

e. All business plans being submitted must be in conjunction with the constitution of Pakistan

26. Fashion Entrepreneurial Challenge

a. In this challenge participants have to introduce a new costume design and make it presentable

to the audience. This event will enhance their innovative skills in the textile and fashion market

of Pakistan as well as abroad.

b. A team may consist of 6-10 members.

c. The event is comprised of two parts:

i. Clothes designing

ii. Fashion show

d. In clothes designing there will be two themes, EASTERN AND WESTERN, and the participants

are required to design a costume according to any one of the above mentioned themes.

e. The fashion show will also have two categories; one theme based and the other clothes

designed in the first part.

f. Theme for the fashion show is 'PAKISTANI CULTURE'. Participants who completely follow

the theme will win this part of the event.

g. Appearance, grooming and dress should express a professional attitude.

h. All participants must bring their own necessary decorations and cosmetic items that they will

need. Make additions as experience teaches.

i. Instructions for the participants

i. Participants are required to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show. Family or friends

will not be allowed to meet them backstage after the show.

ii. Look for the line-up of garments beforehand. Make sure you know the person you are

to follow in each change.

iii. See that your garments are in the correct order. Organize your accessories.

iv. Use open zippers and buttons so that you will be an ease at quick changes.

v. Have a receptive attitude toward any garment modeled to set the right mood.

vi. Be considerate of others. Remain as quiet as possible backstage. Do not gossip or

discuss the show or circumstances that arise during the show. Discuss the experiences

of the show afterward.

vii. Listen to the commentator, but do not look at her or him. Maintain eye contact with the

audience.

viii. Pick up all personal belongings and leave the stage as quickly as possible.

j. Any misbehavior or violation of above mentioned rules will lead to the disqualification of the

participant.

its design, construction, materials chosen, and innovation. The decision given by the judges

would be final. Nobody has the right of challenging the judge's decision.

a. A team will comprise of 3 to 5 members working on a single item.

e. Their work will be judged by the expertise on the following bases: Creativity, Attractiveness,

Art Work and Feasibility.

28. Design to Drive

a. A team of THREE members is allowed from each institution

b. Participants will have to come up with a design of motor drivers in form of theoretical work,

simulations and hardware.

c. Motor drivers must be capable of handling 12V, 25A load in normal conditions and up to 30A

in case of surge.

d. Drivers must be PWM controlled.

e. Three members are allowed per team.

f. More than one team from same university can participate given that the design is unique.

g. Motor Driver ICs are not allowed, the drivers should be based on discrete components.

h. Transistor Driver IC's are allowed.

i. Drivers must support TTL.

j. Simulation files and the project file reports of the task are compulsory. Failure to follow this

rule will lead to disqualification.

k. Project File Report is compulsory. Failure to follow this rule will lead you towards

disqualification.

l. 30 minutes time will be provided to all the participants for testing of hardware.

29. Circuit XIX

a. A team of THREE members is allowed from each institution

f. This round will contain 4 Tasks and 2 hour will be allowed.

a. A team of THREE members is allowed from each institution

b. In this competition, the participants will be required to come up with a software or application

built under the theme of Space and Technology. The participants will have to present and

explain their idea in front of Judges after which the working of projects will be checked.

c. Maximum Three and Minimum one member is allowed per team.

d. C/C++ and Java based Tools are allowed.

e. General tools like Oracle, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, Turbo C, Dev C++ and android

studios will be available but designers are allowed to use their desired compilers.

f. General Compilers will be provided but management team will not be responsible for

compatibility issues and compiler’s problem.

g. Personal PC’s are allowed for programming.

32. MiC-GeeK

a. A team of THREE members is allowed from each institution

b. There will be two rounds in this competition:

participants and perform simulations of the code in ISIS Proteus.

the participants have to design a mini project. Creativity will be appreciated.

d. This will be a 90 minutes round.

e. In the second round, the participants selected from the first round will have to implement their

design practically.

f. This will be a 120 minutes round.

g. Maximum Three and Minimum Two members are allowed per team.

h. The numbers of previous round will not be included in next round.

i. Sharing of ideas between the participating team is not allowed.

34. Lithe copter

a. A team of FOUR members is allowed from each institution

b. Balsa wood, blade cutter, scotch tape, pencil, ruler, glue, elfy, butter paper, sand paper, beads,

paper clips, rubber band, card holder clip, straws, sticks, thumb pins, propeller will be provided

( bring extra things if it’s a part of your design)

c. The time duration to fabricate the Lithecopter will be 2 hours.

d. Participants will be allowed to choose a design they wish.

e. The flight needs to be uniform and stable, but not necessarily vertical.

f. The Lithecopter must be launched by hand without any help of a launcher etc

g. The main frame of the model should not be very heavy.

h. Make sure the wings are attached in a proper way and derationed in a manner that supports

their flight.

i. The axle etc. of the rotating wings should be as friction free as possible.

j. Make sure to let the wings gain some momentum by holding the copter in your hand for a few

seconds before leaving /launching it.

k. Try to give maximum turns to your rubber band to have a longer flight time.

l. It’s not necessary to make the exact design as shown in the video/pictures. You are encouraged

to bring forward a design of your own.

35. Avion Faire

a. One Participant is allowed from each institution

b. Marker, chart papers, blade cutter, squash tape, scissors, cardboard, pencil, ruler, glue, elfy,

butter paper, PVC pipe, sticks, sand paper will be provided

c. No extra material is allowed

d. The time allotted will be 3 hours

e. The design can either be of any existing plane or an idea of your own

36. Glider Competition

a. A team of FOUR members is allowed from each institution.

b. Basic material will be provided by the host

c. The glider can be of any shape and design.

d. The glider should be launched manually, without the use of any launcher etc.

e. Each team will get 2 attempts to perform with their glider(s).

f. Time allowed will be 3 hours.

37. Water Rocket Competition

a. A team of TWO members is allowed from each institution.

b. Each team will be provided with the materials to make and launch Water Rockets, which they

will have to assemble within allocated time period.

c. The launch aims at precision flight of the rocket will be placed with the centre 60M from the

launcher.

d. Participants may adjust the volume of water, air pressure, launch angle and launch direction.

There is no limit on water volume but air pressure must not exceed 100 psi (7 bar).

e. Each team will be given an opportunity to conduct one test launch prior to the competition.

f. During the competition, each team will be given the opportunity to conduct two launches. The

result of the best launch will be taken into account.

g. There will be one launcher, and the competitor will launch one rocket at a time. Launcher will

be provided by IST.

h. The Water Rockets will be judged on the basis of design creativeness of the nose cones and fins.

i. The competitor who achieves the highest score, i.e. closest to the centre of the target, after two

launches will be declared the “winner” of the competition.

j. If more than one team achieves top score, the scores of the second launches will be assessed to

declare the winner.

Note: Limited entries are available for Water Rocket Competition; teams will be entertained on

first come first serve basis.

38. Scrap Tech

a. A team of TWO members is allowed from each institution

b. In the first round participants will be allotted a time frame of one (1) hour and fifteen (15)

minutes. No extra time will be given.

c. Participants will be provided with springs, rubber masses, wood, small metal sheets, plastic

strips, rubber bands, papers, CDs etc. Participants are not allowed to bring any of the raw

materials on their own.

d. All vehicles made must not be powered by any type of motor.

e. Participants will be given all basic tools, however, they may bring their own tools which they

must first verify with competition organizer.

f. End of designing/manufacturing phase will mark the start of test phase, in which all vehicles

made will be tested along a track.

g. The vehicle that travels the most distance in least time will be declared winner of this round.

h. Second round will be one (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes long.

i. All raw materials will be provided by the IYC committee. Participants are not allowed to bring

any of the raw materials of their own.

j. Participants will be provided with the basic tools though they may bring their own tools,

provided the tools are verified by the competition organizer.

k. Participants will be asked to make small catapults out of the junk provided.

l. At the end of manufacturing round, participants will be provided with table-tennis balls which

are to be thrown in a basket using catapults.

m. Each team will be given 3 attempts and the team with maximum perfect throws will be

awarded the most points.

n. Points will also be awarded on the basis of the design and the innovation of the catapult made.

o. Final result will be a sum of the scores of both rounds.

39. Bridge Designing

a. A team of minimum TWO (2) and maximum FOUR members can be registered for

this competition.

b. No team is allowed to bring materials of their own.

c. The evaluator’s decision will be final and cannot be challenged.

d. IYC organizing committee reserves the right to change any rules without prior notice.

e. Teams will be provided with the raw material to make the bridge.

f. Teams will have fifteen (15) minutes to design a bridge on paper. Once the design is

completed, it has to be submitted to the evaluators.

g. Participants will have one (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes to complete the bridge.

h. Participants will be provided with ice cream sticks, glue, cutters and other related material for

bridge making.

i. The exact center of the bridge should be left open for weight to be hung during the load test.

j. Bridge has to be completed from the material provided. No extra material will be provided

under any circumstances.

k. A complete list of all material shall be provided in the start of this round.

40. 3D CAD Modeling Competition

a. Team consists of a ONE member.

b. The parts are to be modelled using Pro-E or Creo only.

c. Competition consists of 2 rounds of 45 minutes each.

d. Round one is the 3-D modelling of the part.

e. In second round, an assembly of the several parts should be modelled and assembled.

41. Concept Wars

a. A team of FOUR members is allowed from each institution

b. Competitors will be given a problem that will require them to convince a client (judges) that

their solution is optimal. They will have to be multi-dimensional in their thinking in order to

provide an economical and logical solution to the problem. The problem definitions typically

simulate real-life engineering challenges faced all over the world.

c. Teams will select a real time problem and present their own unique solution.

d. The Consulting Engineering team will be comprised of four competitors. All four members

must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program.

e. The team would present the solution of the problem to the judges.

f. Maximum presentation time allowed is 20 minutes which must include 5 minutes of the

question answer session

42. Dare to Conquer (Mathematical Hunt)

a. One team consisting of TWO members is allowed from each College/ University

b. Mathematical Hunt is a type of treasure hunt.

c. Pre-defined locations all over IST campus are set.

d. Questions based on mathematics are given to teams at the starting point, and from there on

each question’s answer leads to a specified location.

e. The team that solves the most questions in minimum time will win.

f. The teams will be evaluated based on their solutions and the time they took to return.

g. Every team must only pick envelope of the colour they have been assigned.

h. Participants can take help from calculators, laptops, internet, etc….

i. Each question will carry some points.

j. The questions will be multiple choices, with 4 choices.

k. All participants will be provided with a location map of IST.

l. Each choice in a question will point towards a location.

m. If participant choosing the wrong option, will lead to a wrong location where, “WRONG

LOCATION” will be written prominently. Participants have to solve the questions correctly to

reach the location.

n. At the end each team should submit solutions of each question

o. The team who solves all problems correctly in minimum possible time will score highest as

total points are defined by: Equivalent Points= pts./(t )×10

44. Egg Drop Competition

a. Each team consisting of THREE members would have to make a design to save the egg from a

certain height.

b. Time allowed to make the design will be 3 hours.

c. Help from any external source e.g electronic gadget, other team is prohibited.

d. No additional materials, other than those provided, can be used

45. Counter Strike 1.6

a. Competition format: 5v5 Teams

b. Match format: First to win 16 rounds

c. “Counter-Strike” tournament shall consist of pooling or double elimination system depending

on number of teams.

d. There will be a total of 30 rounds, out of which 15 will be played as terrorists, while 15 as

counter terrorists.

e. Round time: 1 minute 45 seconds

f. Knife Round: The winner of the knife round gets to choose the side and the losing team gets

the remaining option

g. Tie: In case of a tie after 30 rounds, a tie-breaker will be played, consisting of 6 rounds (3 per

side) with $10,000 money at the start of the tie-breaker

r. Unfair Practices Subject to Penalty

seconds after he/she has fallen.

iii. Any competitor who has died cannot communicate by ANY means (No gesture or

verbal communication will be allowed) with any other team member or opponent until

the beginning of the next round.

iv. If a competitor continues to communicate after he/she is killed, the team may be given

a warning or lose by default at the Match Referee’s sole discretion.

v. Boosting (stepping on top of own team competitor) is allowed in play.

vi. Binding Duck to scroll wheel is not allowed.

vii. C4 must be installed at a viewable location. Installing C4 at a location where a boost is

required is allowed.

viii. Silent C4 installation is considered bug play. Such an offense may result in a warning or

loss of all remaining TR rounds at the sole discretion of the Match Referee.

ix. Throwing grenades over buildings in all maps are allowed.

x. Any use of the flash bang bug will result in a warning at the minimum or loss by

s. If disconnection occurs during a match

i. If all the competitors cannot play due to an unintended, accident like server

disconnection then following rules will be followed.

ii. Before the 3rd round starts: restart the match

iii. After the 3rd round starts: Disconnected competitor must reconnect to the server.

iv. If up to 3 of all competitors are unintentionally disconnected:

v. The score for that round is discarded.

vi. The game is paused after the round during the freeze time, and all competitors wait for

the disconnected players.

vii. In the case of intentional disconnection, the Match Referee may decide to end the

match with the offending team losing by forfeit.

i. Protests can only be filed by the team leader, i.e. a competitor that represents the team

ii. If a competitor does not agree to any rules, he/she can express his/her protest to a

Match Referee before the completion of a match.

g. The following rules must be observed:

i. The players must kick‐off with a backward pass at the beginning of each half and after

every goal is scored.

ii. The players are not allowed to shoot the ball directly onto the crossbar from a corner

kick in order to get a chance for a header when the ball rebounds.

iii. It is not allowed to score a goal from one’s own half of the field.

iv. It is forbidden to make a throw‐in directly into the opponent's penalty area. Should a

player throw the ball directly into the opponent's penalty area he shall be warned.

Should he persist, he shall be disqualified from the tournament. Any goals resulting

from a throw‐in into the opponent's penalty area will not be counted.

v. If a player changes his tactics, formation or line‐up he has to kick the ball out of bounds

after the changes so that his opponent is able to react.

vi. If a player is found to be intentionally delaying the game time by passing the ball

around and clearly not attempting to score, he may be given a warning or lose by

default at the referee's discretion.

vi. Prior to making any changes to one’s team, the player that wants to make a change must

be in possession of the ball and be in his own half before he pauses the game. In the last

few minutes of the game it is not allowed to make any changes to one’s team with the

sole intent of delaying the match. Should this be the case, the player delaying the match

will be warned by a referee and, should he persist after the warning, be attributed with a

default loss of the match.

h. “Long balls” (Q+A, Q+W, etc…) are allowed in specific cases. To understand when a long ball

is allowed or not, have a look at the following image: Long balls are allowed when done from

inside the green area or when you are in your own half of the field. Long balls are forbidden

when taken from one’s yellow/blue area and are directed into the opponent’s yellow/blue area.

The image above is for explanatory purposes only.

i. In any case, a goal scored due to the use of a “forbidden move” shall not be counted.

j. All complaints shall be dealt with after the match has been completed.

k. Disconnections

i. Server disconnection: any connection loss between opponents due to system, network,

PC, and/or power problems/issues.

ii. Intentional disconnection: any connection loss between opponents due to a player’s

actions. Upon judgment by the referee, the offending player may be charged with a

default loss.

iii. A referee will confirm the exact score to that point (even if the ball is about to cross the

goal line, the goal shall not count), and restart the match.

iv. A referee will inform the players on exactly how many minutes must still be played in

order to complete the match.

v. Any players sent off the field (red card) shall count as a goal each for the opponent

when the match resumes.

vi. If the disconnection occurs after a corner kick was awarded to a player, the match will

resume with a corner kick for that same player.

48. Call of Duty MW 4

a. It is a 5 vs. 5 team tournament.

b. Each team head must present 1 (One) representative. He is responsible for his team and will be

responsible of all communication with the Referees.

c. Each person attending the tournament must have read and accepted the rules and regulations.

Ignoring it cannot be a reason put forward in case of an issue or dispute.

d. Players are responsible for any hardware that is not installed/ provided by IST.

e. Teams are not allowed to change their players in between matches.

f. Players are allowed to bring their own drivers for gaming gear (e.g. mouse, keyboard, headset etc.)

g. The tournament will be played on Promod (the latest one).

h. 5 (Five) second Bomb Plant time

i. 7 (Seven) second Bomb Defuse time

j. 45 (Forty-five) second Bomb timer

k. 1:45 minute Round time

l. mr12 (Total 24 rounds)

m. each match (until semis) will consist of one map. Map selection will be made through coin toss

method. Prior to each match the team captain of the facing teams meets up with the Referee. A

coin toss is made, loser gets to remove a map first from the map list, and then the other team

removes a map, until one map is left. That map will be played.

b. Matches & Warm Up

i. Every match has 10 (Ten) minutes of warm up time followed by 30 (Thirty) minutes of

match time. The warm up time can be used to warm up in game or to install gear. No

player will be granted more time than the 10 (Ten) minutes set aside for preparation.

ii. All matches will be played using knockout_mr12_pb (Max Round 12).

iii. Each team has 1 (One) timeout per match

iv. Tactical time outs are allowed, but will replace a technical timeout (e.g. a player

crashes, drops etc.)

v. A timeout is a total of 5 (Five) minutes.

c. Points System - Group Play

i. 3 Points for a WIN

ii. 1 Point for a TIE

iii. 0 Points for a LOSS

iv. No show or late arrival of a team will automatically lead to a loss; in case that both

teams are late the match will be considered as a draw.

d. Equality of Points after the Group Matches

i. If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the

following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

1. Head to Head (The Winner of the match between the two teams advances).

2. Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played amongst the teams in

question.

3. Superior round difference from the group matches played amongst the teams in

question.

ii. Higher number of rounds scored in the group matches played amongst the teams in

question.

e. Server, Network or Electrical Failure

i. If server, network or electrical failure occurs, the match is to be resumed and each team

keeps the amount of points they had won.

ii. A failure during the first round leads to restart of the entire match.

iii. A player or team causing intentional failures are banned from the match (e.g. deliberate

restart of the PC, deliberate disconnecting from the game etc.)

f. Fair Play

i. It is forbidden to insult, abuse or manhandle a Player or a Referee, or do damage to

property that belong to others.

ii. Do not cause any damage the property of IST.

iii. The notion of fair play is up to the Referee's assessment.

iv. Lack of fair play can lead to penalties (Including Disqualification of the Team).

v. If a player is caught cheating the entire team will be instantly banned from the

tournament.

g. Penalties & Disqualification

i. If rules are broken, Tournament Referees may apply penalties according to their

judgment and discretion.

ii. Penalties that can be applied are the following:

1) Warning

2) 3 (Three) Round loss or more

3) Default loss

4) Banning a player/team from the venue

5) Disqualification of a player/team from the entire tournament

6) Disqualifications are applied by the Tournament Referee of COD 4 and will

void all rights for the entire team to participate further in the tournament.

49. Dota 2

a. Games other than the Grand Final will be BO1 elimination (Best of 1).

b. The Final will be a BO3.

c. A Team has to consist of at least five participants. Those persons will be called "team

members" or "members" of the team in the following.

d. Note: The IST administration highly recommends a lineup of at least 6 or 7 players.

Unexpected issues for one single player are not a valid reason to postpone matches.

e. Lineup Info: All teams have to provide the administration the following information upon

request:

1) full names of all members

2) steam accounts of all members

3) primary nicknames of all members

4) identity of the captain

f. Ingame Settings:

1) GAME MODE - Captains Mode, unless stated otherwise by the individual competition

rules

2) Enable cheats - No

3) Fill empty slots with bots - No

4) All Chat - No

5) BOT DIFFICULTY - free choice

6) VERSION - Tournament, unless chosen otherwise by the referee

7) SPECTATORS - chosen by the referee depending on the competition

g. During a game

1) Picks & Bans

The hero pool always consists of all heroes the game mode allows and might therefore

change several times during the competition. The game must not be paused during the

draft, unless a drafter disconnects.

2) Pauses

Each team has the right to pause the game for an acceptable duration, if a player

announces it at least three seconds in advance and calls a coherent reason (exception:

not necessary, if someone disconnects). The game must not be resumed before both

teams agree with it. When the number or the duration of breaks becomes too high or

long, the administration may force the continuation of the game.

3) Disconnects & Reconnects

If a player disconnects, the game is to be paused instantly. Everyone has up to five

minutes to reconnect to the game (if the same person disconnects more than once, all

times get added up). If this time is passed, the opposing team may continue the game,

unless an admin demands the opposite. The affected player is in this case still allowed

to rejoin later on.

4) Bugs

If any serious bugs occur, the game has to be paused immediately and the

administration decides how to continue. Knowingly abusing a bug is strictly forbidden.

5) Tools / Hacks

The usage of any Dota-related tool aside from Steam and Dota 2 during a match is

strictly forbidden.

6) Ending

A game is finished, when an Ancient Fortress is destroyed, when the majority of a team

leaves on purpose, or when the administration decides on it. (note: A game is not

forfeited, when a player types "gg" or "ff". Always wait for the ancient to be

destroyed!)

7) Rule Violation & Punishment

Breaking of the rules or ignoring the order of an admin may result in a punishment for a

whole team or a specific player. Type and amount is chosen by a referee.

8) Possible Team Punishments

Default Loss for one game

Default Loss for the whole match

Time Penalty for the next draft

Score Reduction (during a group stage)

Temporary or permanent ban from the competition

50. Tennis

a. Standard rules of tennis will be followed.

b. Initial matches up to quarter final will be played on single set.

c. Semi finals and final will be played on best of three sets.

51. Table Tennis

a. International rules of table tennis will be followed.

b. Only one male and one female participant from each university will be allowed.

c. The first three rounds will be best of 3 matches whereas semi-finals and final will be best of 5

matches.

52. Futsal

a. Game format: 5v5.

b. Standard futsal rules will be applied.

c. Maximum of 8 players per team (5 playing and 3 subs).

d. Rolling substitutions.

e. Match time: 30 minutes (14 minutes half and 2 minute break).

f. Only Gripper shoes will be allowed.

g. No offside.

h. In case of draw/ tie, 3 penalty kicks will be taken by each team.

i. Goalkeeper will be allowed to pick up the back-pass.

53. 5 on 5 Basket Ball

a. International standard (FIBA) rules of basketball will be followed.

b. Maximum of 8 players per team (5 playing and 3 subs).

c. A game of 20 minutes will be played, 10 minutes each half.
