Background:

Rural Development Foundation implementer of School Based Quality Improvement

Programme with the financial support by Tech Mahindra Foundation in Mandal Parishad

Primary School, Bahadurpally is excited to share the Ist quarter report.

Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the month of April between TMF and

RDF as funding and technical partners. At the same time MOU was signed between TMF

and RVM,SSA to get the support and permission of primary school education

department. In this regard State Project Director issued proceedings marking a copy to

the DEO, MEO, school HM about the proposed SQIP programme. (Annexure 1)

A. Identification Process of staff:

RDF is happy to share that the staff recruited for the School Based Quality Improvement Program in the school (SQIP) Is doing a good job and are dedicated to show the impact of the program in the school. We have strategically recruited and deputed staff from RDF schools with different strengths that cater to the all round development of the school and the children. Identified staff were made to go through a process of internship at RDF schools to get familiarized with the RDF rules and regulations. Additional staff: To enable effective implementation of the School Based Quality Improvement

Program in the school, RDF has to take a bold step by increasing the number of staff to cater the

needs of all 5 classes and other activities. Keeping in view the future of kids in all five classes

without assigned regular teacher for them RDF took this bold step in the hope the funding

partner will support this initiative.

Originally the budget per annum was Rs1460000 for 9 new recruit staff for the MPP School,

Bahadurpally when the MOU was signed. Additional 6 staff members are costing Rs 162000/- in

excess to the approved budget. This amount will be covered by student activities, training

components.

Safety: It was a well known fact that the school premises were used by anti social elements and

there were incidents of repeated thefts in the schools (PS and HS). RDf tried to place a

watchman as proposed and they were made to runaway by these unruly people. To combat the

situation RDF assigned temporary guards on the basis of daily wages. Now the things are

settling down as the staff was stay put in the school to morally support the watchman and the

people who guard the school in the night.

B. Staff Trainings:

Newly recruited staff has gone through induction training for 3 days at Hyderabad RDF Office on

RDF rules and regulations. New staff was oriented about the planned activities and milestones

of the proposed School Based Quality Implementation Program.

Training workshop on CCE:

A three days training cum workshop was conducted on 29th, 30th and 31th May. The training was

held at RDF school Kalleda. Resource persons from SCERT and RVM,SSA took the sessions on the

Importance of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, types of assessments, preparation

required by the teachers, its implementation and on questioning skills and activities to be

planned subject specific sessions. Along with RDF staff from RDF schools also participated and

shared their experience with new recruit staff. Dr Venkata Chary from RVM, SSA monitored the

whole program.

Teachers participated with fervor and requested for quarterly sessions on the same topic as it is

mandatory to design activities and questions to suit the CCE parameters. Group work and

planning for 1st term was done under the supervision of resource persons on the last day by the

teachers.

C) Student Activities

The school reopened on 12th June 2014. Student strength gradually picked up from 170 to 216

as the days progressed. Teaching staff actively participated in enrollment rally and motivated

the village community. The rally had a good impact on the community as the enrollment has

gone up and is still continuing.

Students are provided with snacks every day. A well managed menu is followed that consists of

banana, egg, Bengal gram, biscuits, milk, pea nuts. Children’s height and weight have been

recorded and will be recorded and compared as the year progresses.

D) Infrastructure:

The school building was renovated to stop water seepage, to make toilets usable. The kitchen

roof and school building roof were badly damaged and had to almost replace with new roof

layer. Flooring, doors and windows, electrical work, plumber work and new sintex tank were

provided. Back side of the school building is protected with a gate and wall. Red soil and manure

were put to use the place to raise a kitchen garden. Play equipment were fixed and the

classrooms are supplied with TLM. Available library books are displayed ensuring that the books

are easily available to the children.

E) Non recurring items:

The school got provision for interenet and a printer has been provided. A camera to record the

students activities and to be used for visual documentation has been bought. There are many

other proposed items still to be procured to achieve the set goal.

Highlights:

Children record their own attendance in a specially designed cards.

Academic chart is displayed to record the child’s performance.

Activity based learning processes.

Group work.

Balanced time table to include sports, library and yoga periods.

Snacks are given to ensure well being of the children.

Analysis of Basic Levels among Children studying in MPPS Bahadurpalli. Learning levels of

children in Telugu, English and Mathematics were assessed in the month of June just after the

school re opened after summer vacations. Grade 1 is not taken for the assessment as it is the

entry level grade for the children into the school.

Observations:

Children need support in improving written skills, especially grades 4 and 5 in languages.

Children need to improve listening skills to over come pronounciation diffects and then

can improve in reading and writing skills.

Most of the children found struggling to do very basic mathematical operations such as

multiplications and divisions in grade 4 and 5.

Activity based classroom practices are planned to improve the mathematical skills

In grade 2 and 3 most of the children found not familiar with subtractions.

Teaching aids such as beads, sticks, seeds, pebbles and fingers are used to improve the

basic mathematical skills.
