A busy school is a happy school and this week has been no exception at AP1. From very

early on in the mornings with our on-going Bangkok swimming trials, to late after school

with Phuket football, the campus has really come alive this week - and we still have the

club programme to begin on Monday 22nd September!

Our Moon Festival celebrations today epitomised what BIS education is all about - a

rounded educational experience that celebrates both diversity, respect and tradition.

Thankfully, the rain held off in the morning and it was lovely to see so many families shar-

ing the experiences of the Dragon Dance. In addition to this, our talented children pro-

duced an entertaining double assembly of song, dance and drama, ably lead by our team of

Teaching Assistants - please look in today’s newsletter for the many pictures taken, cele-

brating the richness of this special occasion within our school calendar.

A New Year, A New Start…..

Dear parents,

As we end our first full week here at An Phu Primary Campus, It is a good time to remind ourselves of the uni-

form expectations we have here at school. One of the things I have been most impressed with since arriving at

BIS is how smart the children look and how well they behave. The children certainly live up to the high expec-

tations we have of them including uniform and how they present themselves.

As a reminder for any parent still unsure, the following guidelines on uniform, in line with the expectations laid

out in the parent handbook, are below. We ask kindly that all parents support us in making sure that our stu-

dents’ appearance reflect the high expectations we have here at BIS of all.

All children should wear black leather shoes (if possible, including F1 and F2 children). Black trainers are not

considered as suitable footwear.

All children should be wearing black, white or grey socks that come above the ankle.

Girls’ hair should be tied back with either a neutral coloured, red or maroon hair tie or held back with either a

neutral coloured, red or maroon soft hairband.

We very much appreciate your support in helping our students look and be the best they can be.

Ms Deirdre Grimshaw

Deputy Headteacher, An Phu Primary Campus

Following on from my presentation at the Meet the Teacher evenings last week, I am pleased to share with you

all the examination and test results for the last academic year at BIS. Please find these results on page 3 of

today’s newsletter.

Thank you for the great response that you have shown in signing up to help with our PTG events this year.

Currently, we are still looking for some class parent positions. If you are able to help out with this or still want

The British International School is delighted to announce that its students have achieved another set of out-

standing examination and test results this year. Yet again this has been the best ever set of external examina-

tion results for the school in any one year.

Key Stage 2 Test Results for Year 6 – Students aged 11 years old

The National Curriculum for England requires schools to award a National Curriculum Level in Reading, Writ-

ing, Mathematics and Science to all Year 6 students. Year 6 marks the end of primary school education in the

British system. These Teacher Assessed Levels are based on class work throughout the year as well as specific

tasks and tests taken at the end of the school year.

We are proud to see that all of our students are performing well above expectations and averages for England.

IGCSE Results for Year 11 – Students aged 16 years old

The University of Cambridge IGCSE certificate is common currency in international education, with schools in

more than 100 countries worldwide using the examinations. Grades A* to C are commonly regarded as good

pass grades.

One measure of how well a school is doing is the percentage of all examination entries that are either A* or A.

The UK average for this is 23% and a very good independent school or international school would be above 60%.

We were very pleased with a total of 64.9% of all examinations at the school being either A* or A.

Many of our students passed 11 IGCSE subjects, 25% were awarded at least 7 A* and our top achieving student

was awarded 11A* grades and 1A grade.

IB Diploma Programme Results for Year 13 – Students aged 18 years old

The IB Diploma is recognised as a rigorous academic qualification accepted by universities around the world as

one of the best preparations available anywhere for a degree course. An IB Diploma is awarded to students who

score 24 points or more out of a maximum of 45 points.

The school’s average points’ score was our highest ever at 35.3 against a world average of 29.8. This is the sev-

enth year in succession that BIS has been well above the world average points score, with our top two students

scoring an exceptionally high 43 points each.

These results compare very favourably with the top international schools around the world as well as the best

grammar schools and independent schools in the UK. We are delighted that so many of these students have

gone to top universities of their choice in the UK, USA and other countries. A full list of university destinations

can be seen on our website. Please follow this link: http://www.bisvietnam.com/index.php/

university_destinations_2014-49.htm

Congratulations are due to all of the students and their teachers for achieving such success. They have all

worked so hard and the results are fully deserved. We continue to set extremely high standards at the school

and year on year everyone rises to the challenge. Well done to parents as well for their continued support in

making BIS the truly great school that it is.

Results from the school website. Please follow this link: http://www.bisvietnam.com/index.php/

It was such a beautiful morning to welcome all AP1 children in their colourful Ao Dai. The Moon Festival cele-

bration started with a wonderful Dragon Dance show which entertained the children, teachers and all of the

parents. Following the dance, the children enjoyed the assembly performed by some talented Year 5 and Year 6

children worked very hard to produce a memorable show. A big thank you to all the children and teaching as-

sistants. Thanks also to all parents for coming and celebrating Moon Festival with us all today.

Happy Moon Festival! Trung Thu vui vẻ!

‘We've had a super busy start to the year in year 1. All classes have settled in well and it has been great to see

children playing together and making new friends. Our first IPC topic 'Who am I?' has already seen the chil-

dren drawing and labelling their bodies. We've noticed lots of similarities between us, and many differences too!

Creative activities have also been popular as children have made puppets, drawn self-portraits and have be-

come doctors and dentists in our role play areas. We are all eager to learn and share more experiences about

ourselves.
