FROM THE CHAIRPERSON’S DESK

Dear Readers,

On behalf of the entire team at B&WSSC, I would like to wish everyone Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

As we set out with new goals and aspirations for the year, I would like to mention that 2019 has brought 4 new Governing Body members and 2 General Body members to the Council. B&WSSC is working tirelessly to ensure skill development of the young and deserving talent of our country and is working in close coordination with both the government and the industry constituents towards creating an efficient and effective ecosphere for imparting quality training in the Beauty & Wellness domain while simultaneously opening up job opportunities for those trained by having the industry interface with them at job fairs across the length and breadth of the country.

This year also saw a change in the executive leadership team of the Council, with Ms. Monica Bahl taking charge as new CEO earlier this year. I am sure that under her leadership the B&WSSC will deliver on its goals even more strongly that before.

I am glad to share that the Council has taken steps to establish a regional presence, starting with the appointment of the Regional Engagement Officer for East & North Eastern India, based in Guwahati. It shall be appointing officers in the other regions in the coming six months.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge all members of the our industry to identify young talent and encouragethem to register for Beauty Therapy & Hairdressing for upcoming the IndiaSkills 2020 competition, winners from which we will identify and groom for the Worldskills 2021 competition to be held in Shanghai in 2021. This platform has given a real meaning to the skill ecosystem and helped change mind-sets of many individuals to take up beauty & wellness as a conscious career choice.

As we prepare to ring in the New Year, I like to congratulate and thank all the members of B&WSSC on their outstanding contribution in the year gone by.

Best wishes for a fabulous 2020!

Cosmetics market to grow by 25% to $20 billion by 2025

The rising awareness of beauty products, increasing premium on personal grooming, changes in consumption patterns and lifestyles and improved purchasing power among women are expected to boost the industry.

The country's cosmetics and cosmeceutical market is expected to register annual growth of 25 per cent touching $ 20 billion by 2025, according to industry experts here.

"The Indian cosmeceutical and cosmetics industry has an overall market standing of USD 6.5

billion from a global market of USD 274 billion."

The market will maintain healthy growth due to rising preference for specialised cosmetic products such as organic, herbal and ayurvedic products. Principal areas that are expected to grow include colour cosmetics, fragrances, specialised skin care and make-up cosmetics, he said

The Indian industry is growing rapidly at a rate of 13-18 percent, more than that of US or European markets.
