We on behalf of Memon Welfare Society take the opportunity to express Haj Mubarak in advance to those brothers and sisters who intend to perform Haj this year and Eid Mubarak to those who will observe and celebrate Eid AlAdha here in Saudi Arabia or abroad.

As we know that EidAl-Adha is celebrated annually on the10th day of the month of Zul-Hjj of the lunar Islamic calendar Eidal-Adha celebrations start after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah in Saudi Arabia by Muslims world wide in order to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim Aleh-e-salam to sacrifice his son Ismail Aleh-e-salam as an act of obedience to Allah almighty, but instead was able to sacrifice aram(by Allah almighty’s command). Eid is also about spending time withfamily and friends, sacrifice, and thanks giving forbeingable to afford food and housing. In traditional oragrarian settings, eachfamily sacrifices a domestic animal, such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, by slaughter. The meat then divided into three equal parts to be distributed to others. The family eats one third, another third is given to other relatives, friends or neighbors, and the other third is given to the poor as a gift.

*Helping needy students for education fee *Helping Community members for health care for those who cannot afford med expenses *Helping in Coffin & Burial Services *Helping & guiding unemployed in seeking employment *Extending free Matrimonial services *Beside above we are assisting some Madrassa by paying fees of needy students and schools where the students receive education but cannot afford even the nominal fee. *Organize other social & welfare programs for our community such as Seminar, Families get to gather together, Career guidance sessions, evening with scholar etc *Also help financially and materially the victims of natural disaster such as flood and Earth quake etc. *Collect used clothes and dispatch them by cargo for needy people in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Burma, Somalia. This is a unique service. *Collect unused medicines for free medical camps organized by Pakistan welfare Society in Consulate General of Pakistan Jeddah every alternate Friday regularly. No doubt, Memon Welfare Society is playing a significant role by providing an opportunity to the community families to meet, greet and eat together from time to time, which is not a piece of good fortune only but strangers of yesterday become friends of today and then some of them become relative tomorrow. However, In order to perform well, we have formed various committees to undertake their respective responsibilities. In brief MWS is purely social and welfare forum to serve the community and humanity inside KSA.

Great social worker of the world

Abdul Sattar Edhi (Rehmatullah Elehe)

Not only Pakistani but also non Pakistani and social workers throughout globe were shocked to receive news about sad

demise of Famed philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who set up one of Pakistan’s biggest welfare organisations and was

revered as a “living saint” by many in the South Asian country. Inna Lillah-e-Wa-inna Elehe Rajeoun.

The announcement of his death triggered a wave of accolades on TV and social media. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz

Sharif paid tribute to him as “a great servant of humanity,” and said he would receive a posthumous presidential medal and

a state funeral.

The 88-year-old’s reputation for austerity and generosity resonated deeply in Pakistan, a country of 190 million people

whose government is riddled with lot of issues and where public health and welfare services are weak.

“There are few men who have done as much good, and made as much a difference to the lives and livelihoods of the

Pakistani people as Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Page 5: Issue No. 86-87 CHALO CHALO JI,,, HAJ KA MAHINA AA GAYA ... · A.Rahman Merchant Office Bearers: (Core Committee) President: Irfan H. Ahmed Kolsawala Vice Presidents: Younus Habib

Edhi, a short man with a long white beard who often wore a traditional cap, had been ill for several years after suffering

kidney failure, Edhi’s son Faisal told journalists in Karachi. Government of Pakistan had offered to fly Edhi abroad for

treatment, but he refused, saying he wanted to be treated at a public hospital in his own country.

The Edhi Foundation runs a vast fleet of ambulances, orphanages and medical clinics across the country.

Last year when a devastating heat wave struck Karachi – a city of about 20 million people – the foundation was at the

forefront of the response: its ambulances tended to the sick, the Edhi morgue was used to store the dead and many of the

poor buried their family members in the Edhi cemetery for free. Edhi’s funeral was one of the biggest in Pakistan’s history.

“He was a noble soul “PAKISTAN’S MOTHER TERESA” who dedicated his life in service of mankind,” said Sushma Swaraj,

the foreign minister of India, Pakistan’s neighbour country.

In a nation often driven by social, ethnic and religious strife, Edhi won respect from every strata of society for an ascetic

lifestyle that was devoted to helping the poor regardless of their background.

Edhi lived in a bare room in Karachi, alternating between his two suits of black clothes and occasionally listening to

recordings of Koranic verses on a battered old tape recorder. “When my ambulance takes a wounded person who is in pain

to the hospital, when people reach the hospital, I find peace in knowing I helped an injured person who was in pain,” Edhi

told Reuters in an interview in 2013.

“My mission is to love human beings … Each day is the best day of my life.”

His wife, Bilquis, a nurse, oversees the women’s shelters and the adoption of orphans. They have found homes for about

25,000 children.

Edhi’s foundation has provided relief in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Indonesia and in the United

States after Hurricane Katrina.

Pakistanis took to Twitter to mourn the death of a national hero many call a “living saint” and “Pakistan’s Mother Teresa”.

“In his death he has united all of Pakistan, across all affiliations, in mourning. That in itself is a measure of his greatness,”.

May Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace have mercy on him and grant him a high place in Jannatul Firdous Aameen.

5 ways to making good deeds better Source: IslamiCity Bulletin

Sincerity of Intention

The first hadith in Sahih Bukhari is “Innamal a’malu binniyat… ” “The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions…” He did so to express and affirm sincerity of intention for his work.

In all our deeds we must confirm within ourselves the intention of seeking the pleasure of God. Good deeds will bear fruit if there is sincerity attached to their intentions.

Do not procrastinate

Procrastination is like the quick sand of laziness that can pull us into despair and prevent us from reaching our God given potential.

The Prophet used to say, “O God! I seek refuge with You, from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men.” (Bukhari)

As soon as you think of a good deed act upon it.

Expand your giving circle “… And do good unto your parents, and near of kin, and unto orphans, and the needy, and the neighbor from among your own people, and the neighbor who is a stranger, and the friend by your side, and the traveler …” Quran 4:36

Do good deeds for your family, neighbors, friends and all of humanity.

Look for group opportunities

Doing good deeds in a group can increase our collective consciousness. Good company will help us on the spiritual path. It makes it easier to do good because we can help each other and be more effective in our actions.

Gratefulness for the ability to do good

Be grateful to God for the opportunity and ability to do good.

“..If you are thankful, I will give you more ..” Quran 14:7

Forgiveness is Power You benefit immensely when you choose to forgive and so does everyone around you. Whether you need to forgive others, or need to forgive yourself, doing so sets you free from the past and enables you to fulfil your true potential. Forgiveness allows you to break free from limiting beliefs and attitudes. It frees up your mental and emotional energies so that you can apply them to creating a better life. Forgiveness helps you achieve even your most practical and immediate goals. Perhaps you want a better job, to earn more money, have better relationships, or live in a nicer place. Forgiveness helps you achieve all of these. If you have not forgiven then a part of your inner life energy is trapped in resentment, anger, pain, or suffering of some kind. This trapped life energy will limit you. It it like trying to ride a bicycle with the brakes partly on all the time. It slows you down, frustrates you and makes it difficult to move forward. If you do not want to learn to forgive to benefit yourself; then learn to forgive so you can benefit others. As you learn to forgive you benefit everyone you are in contact with. Your thinking will be clearer and more positive than before. You will have a lot more to give and you will more readily enjoy sharing what you have. You will naturally and easily become kinder, more generous and more caring of others – without having to struggle to achieve this. You will have a happier and more positive attitude to the people in your life and they will respond more positively to you in return. Is a forgiving person easier to be around than an unforgiving one? Yes, of course they are. A forgiving person is always much easier to be around than an unforgiving one. The quality of your life depends on the quality of your relationships. Every aspect of your life will change for the better as you learn to forgive; whether in your family, your work life or your social life. Learning to forgive will improve all your relationships, because your attitude will improve. As your relationships improve, then all aspects of your life will also improve. If you want to move up to the next level of financial abundance and success, Forgiveness will help you achieve it. For example, if you want more money in your life you need to make sure that you do not resent people who have more money than you. People with more money than you are the ones best placed to help you have more money too. If, as some people do, you resent “people with money” then they will not be able to help you, because you are not open to them while you are busy resenting them. Likewise, if you have a positive attitude to people who are more successful than you (you smile at them rather than glower at them) they will see you as approachable and will more likely want to work with you, or socialise with you. Learning to forgive yourself is vitally important too. Hurting yourself, by refusing to forgive yourself, hurts others also. If you do not forgive yourself then you will punish yourself by denying yourself the good things in life. The more you deny yourself the less you have to give. The less you have to give the less you can benefit those around you. When you stop limiting what you receive then you stop limiting what you can give. Everyone benefits when you forgive yourself as you then allow more good into your life, and have a lot more to share. When you forgive; you become a better husband or wife, you become a better student or teacher, you become a better employer or employee and you become a better parent or child. When you forgive you are more open to success in whatever ways are meaningful to you. As you learn to forgive, what seemed impossible not only becomes possible, but can even become easily achievable. you are a religious, or spiritually minded, person then learning practical ways to forgive will enhance and deepen your experience of your religion or spiritual practice. It will help free you from guilt about not being as “good” as you feel you should be, because it will help you become the type of person you would like to be. Practising forgiveness strengthens the goodness within you so that it becomes more active in your life. You will naturally feel less inclined to do the things you know you should not do, but have not been able to stop yourself doing. You will start to do more of the things you know you ought to do, but have not been able to get yourself to do. Learning to forgive can only help you; it cannot hurt you. Forgiveness is immensely practical and helpful. There is nothing vague, or impractical about it. Forgiveness sets you free. As you learn to forgive many problems (possibly even health problems) will gradually disappear. It will be as if you can view your life from above and can see the easiest way get to where you want to be. Life will open up in front of you. New opportunities will emerge as if from nowhere. Happy coincides will occur where you meet just the right person at just the right time. Ideas or answers will come to you just as you need them. A friend may make a comment, or you flip open a book or a magazine, or you may overhear a conversation which gives you just what you were looking for. Why is this so? It is because by practising forgiveness you become more open to the goodness of life, so that goodness is more able to find its way to you. As you learn to forgive, abilities which have been dormant within you will emerge, and you will discover yourself to be a much stronger and more capable person than you previously imagined. Parts of yourself which could not thrive in the frigid soil of unforgiveness will start to grow. You will begin to let go of struggling and striving. You will find more of an easy flow and life will be a lot more pleasant and a lot more enjoyable. If this all sounds like exaggeration, then let that be for now. Simply practice the Four Steps to Forgiveness that you will find within these pages and you will be very glad that you did.

The Power of Silence Silence has a certain energy to it like no other energy source. It has the power to get people to think and to act, it can help slow the mind down, and it is a powerful ally in the likes of counseling and life coaching. What happens when there is silence? We turn our thoughts and focus inwards and gain the power we need to refuel our minds. Our ego is temporarily switched off or at least made to be quiet for a bit, and we start to see the real world as it should be. Our thoughts get in the way of our reality sometimes and we don’t see the beauty of the world around us. When there is silence there is time for introspection and to allow our true self to speak not the ego or the conscious mind, but thetrue self connected to the flow of energy around us. 5 Examples of when to use silence

1. During arguments. One of the best times to use the power of silence is during an argument is to stay silent. The ego will be trying to force its way out of you and finish the argument but you are the controller, not the ego. When someone is shouting at you, looking for an argument or just picking on you can literally take all the power away from them and keep all your energy by simply looking at them and saying absolutely nothing. This is extremely difficult to do but very powerful.

2. Gossiping. When there is a crowd of people in the workplace there are gossipers who speak about other people. The thing with gossiping is that it is contagious. When we don’t like someone and someone else starts speaking about them we naturally tend to voice our opinion, I’ve done it lots of times and have to stop myself. Try and stop yourself from catching the virus of gossiping and use the power of silent whenever it occurs. If you are a gossiper yourself and people around start to notice that you are ‘not your usual self’, don’t give an explanation just leave saying you’ve got work to do or whatever, pretty soon you’ll be out of the gossiping loop.

3. When someone is talking. Silence is a great tool for counselors if used in the right way. It’s also great when listening to friends and family.

Just let people talk and listen to them and use your facial expressions and movements to acknowledge that you are listening. This can be a tough thing to do but silence is an extremely powerful for both you, as the listener, and the talker. You will find that as you practice this, more people come to talk to you as you will be known as a listener. Obviously there are times to speak during the conversation, however when you do, make sure it is to paraphrase what the talker is saying or asking questions to get more information, don’t make it about yourself. When people want to know more about you they will ask you questions, this is the time to talk about yourself but always have the listener be part of the conversation.

4. When the house is empty. The silence of the home can be quite disturbing to some people as there is a natural need to fill the void of silence. We turn on the radio, play some music, call friends or family, or turn on the TV to fill this void. Having a completely silent home when you are alone does not mean you are alone it simply means you are recharging your mind and giving it some downtime. Silence helps us to work through, in our minds, the events of the day or project what we want to happen during the day ahead. I am a night owl and also a morning lark. I love the silence when I know everyone is safe and tucked up in bed and I can write or work on the computer. On the weekends I go to bed with my wife to talk about the day’s events or our plans and just have a laugh or whatever.Once my wife, who loves her sleep, has gone to sleep I kiss her goodnight and get up for a few hours to write as this is the time I am most inspired. I am also the first person up in the morningwhich means I have another 2 hours to write or work on my online projects in silence. I know it’s harder when you are alone, however times of silence can be used to think about the life you want and work out ways to get it.

5. Quiet reflection. This is a fantastic way to connect with world in a way that is not possible when you are surrounded by hubbub noise. 15 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes in the evening simply focusing on your breath can do wonders for both mind and body. I truly believe that with practice quiet reflection can help us reach a level of deep inner calm. The state of silence is a way of reaching another part of your mind not possible when going about your daily routine. This other part of your mind is connected in every way to the world around you and with practice you can tap into this knowledge.

aAccording to a wiseman; “Silence can never be misquoted”

Short History of Hajj

Hajj literally means ‘to set out for a place’. Islamically however it refers to the annual pilgrimage that Muslims make to Makkah with the intention of performing certain religious rites in accordance with the method prescribed by the Prophet Muhammad .Hajj and its rites were first ordained by Allah in the time of the Prophet lbrahim [Abraham] and he was the one who wasentrusted by Allah to build the Kaba – the House of Allah – along with his son Ismail [Ishmael] at Makkah. Allah described the Kaba and its building as follows: “And remember when We showed Ibrahim the site of the [Sacred] House [saying]: Associate not anything [in worship with Me and purify My House for those who circumambulate it [i.e. perform tawaaf] and those who stand up for prayer and those who bow down and make prostration [in prayer etc.].” [Surah Al-Hajj 22:26] After building the Kaba, Prophet Ibrahim would come to Makkah to perform Hajj every year, and after his death, this practice was continued by his son. However, gradually with the passage of time, both the form and the goal of the Hajj riteswere changed. As idolatry spread throughout Arabia, the Kaba lost its purity and idols were placed inside it. Its walls becamecovered with poems and paintings, including one of Jesus and his mother Maryam and eventually over 360 idols came to be placed around the Kaba. During the Hajj period itself, the atmosphere around the sacred precincts of the Kaba was like a circus. Men and womenwould go round the Kaba naked, arguing that they should present themselves before Allah in the same condition they wereborn. Their prayer became devoid of all sincere remembrance of Allah and was instead reduced to a series of hand clapping, whistling and the blowing of horns. Even the talbiah [1] was distorted by them with the following additions: ‘No one is Your partner except one who is permitted by you. You are his Master and the Master of what he possesses’. Sacrifices were also made in the name of God. However, the blood of the sacrificed animals was poured onto the walls of the Kaba and the flesh was hung from pillars around the Kaba, in the belief that Allah demanded the flesh and blood of theseanimals.Singing, drinking, adultery and other acts of immorality was rife amongst the pilgrims and the poetry competitions, whichwere held, were a major part of the whole Hajj event. In these competitions, poets would praise the bravery and splendor of their own tribesmen and tell exaggerated tales of the cowardice and miserliness of other tribes. Competitions in generosity were also staged where the chief of each tribe would set up huge cauldrons and feed the pilgrims, only so that they could become well-known for their extreme generosity. Thus the people had totally abandoned the teachings of their forefather and leader Prophet Ibrahim. The House that he had made pure for the worship of Allah alone, had been totally desecrated by the pagans and the rites which he had established were completely distorted by them. This sad state of affairs continued for nearly two and a half thousand years. But then after this long period, the time came for the supplication of Prophet Ibrahim to be answered: “Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall recite unto them your aayaat (verses) and instruct them in the book and the Wisdom and sanctify them. Verily you are the ‘Azeezul-Hakeem [the All-Mighty, the All-Wise].” [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:129] Sure enough, a man by the name of Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullaah was born in the very city that Prophet Ibrahim had made this supplication centuries earlier. For twenty-three years, Prophet Muhammad spread the message of Tawheed [true monotheism] – the same message that Prophet Ibrahim and all the other Prophets came with – and established the law of Allah upon the land. He expended every effort into making the word of Allah supreme and his

victory over falsehood culminated in the smashing of the idols inside the Kaba which once again became the universal center for the worshippers of the one True God. Not only did the Prophet rid the Kaba of all its impurities, but he also reinstated all the rites of Hajj which were established by Allah’s Permission, in the time of Prophet Ibrahim. Specific injunctions in the Quran were revealed in order to eliminate all the false rites which had become rampant in the pre-Islamic period. All indecent and shameful acts were strictly banned in Allah’s statement: “There is to be no lewdness nor wrangles during Hajj.” [Surah al-Baqarah 2:197] Competitions among poets in the exaltations of their forefathers and their tribesmen’s achievements were all stopped. Instead, Allah told them: “And when you have completed your rites [of Hajj] then remember Allah as you remember your forefathers; nay with a more vigorous remembrance.” [Surah al-Baqarah 2:200] Competitions in generosity were also prohibited. Of course, the feeding of the poor pilgrims was still encouraged as this was done during the time of Prophet Ibrahim but Allah commanded that the slaughtering of the animals which was done for this purpose should be done seeking the pleasure of Allah rather than fame and the praise of the people. He said: “So mention the name of Allah over these animals when they are drawn up in lines. Then, when they are drawn on their sides [after the slaughter], eat thereof and feed the beggar who does not ask, and the beggar who asks.” [Surah al-Hajj 22:36] As for the deplorable practice of spattering blood of the sacrificed animals on the walls of the Kaba and hanging their flesh on alters, then Allah clearly informed them that: “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is Taqwaa (piety) from you that reaches Him.” [Surah al-Hajj 22:37] The Prophet also put a stop to the practice of circling the Kaba in a state of nudity and the argument that the pagans put forward to justify this ritual was sharply rebutted in Allah’s question: “Say: Who has forbidden the adornment [i.e. clothes] given by Allah which He has produced for His Slaves?” [Surah al-A’raaf 7:32] Another custom which was prohibited through the Quran was that of setting off for Hajj without taking any provisions for the journey. In the pre-Islamic period, some people who claimed to be mutawakkiloon (those having complete trust in Allah) would travel to perform Hajj begging for food through the whole journey. They considered this form of behavior a sign of piety and an indication of how much faith they had in Allah. However Allah told mankind that to have sufficient provisions for the journey was one of the preconditions for making Hajj. He said: “And take a provision [with you] for the journey, but the best provision is at-Taqwaa (piety).” [Surah al-Baqarah 2:197] In this way, all the pre-Islamic practices, which were based on ignorance, were abolished and Hajj was once more made a model of piety, fear of Allah, purity, simplicity and austerity. Now, when the pilgrims reach the Kaba, they no longer find the carnivals and the frolic and frivolity that had once occupied the minds of the pilgrims there before. Now, there is the remembrance of Allah at every step and every action and every sacrifice was devoted to Him alone. It was this kind of Hajj that was worthy of the reward of paradise, as the Prophet said: “The reward for an accepted Hajj is nothing less than paradise.” May Allah grant us all the ability to visit His House and perform the Hajj in the manner of the Prophet Muhammad . Aameen. Courtesy: Islamic City Bulletin,
