Stephanie Alexander Kitchen/Garden News

It has been a great start to Term 3 in the kitchen. The students have adapted very well to the shortened time frame for kitchen sessions and have worked very hard to complete their cooking and cleaning up on time. The support of parents and other volunteers is more important than ever to help the students complete their tasks on time and keep things on track. Assistance is always welcome and appreciated to maintain the required levels of safety and supervision in the kitchen. Thank you to our parents and also our volunteers from outside of our school community for their support throughout the year so far.

Bastille Day This week in French we discussed Bastille Day Did you know the French celebrate Bastille Day on the 14th July every year? This day is a national public holiday. The name of the French flag is Le drapeau tricolore, which means the three coloured flag. The colours of the French flag are blue, white and red. On the 14th July 1789 the people of France fought against the French army and the tyranny of the king that ruled at the time, Louis the 16th. He was a greedy king. While the people of France were suffering poverty and hunger, he was lavishing in wealth having parties with his friends. Bastille was the name of the prison in Paris that the people of France stormed and took over. This was the beginning of the French revolution and France’s independence. The French people had had enough and fought against the kings’ army for their independence. On this day, people dress in the French colours and celebrate by having picnics, dancing and fireworks displayed at night. Frances’ motto is Liberte, egalite, fraternite. Freedom, equality, unity. Chaplain's Chat With Dave! Busy isn’t best A very busy father once took an entire day off work to go fishing with his son. For many years, his son cherished the memory of this day. Sorting through his father’s stuff years later, the son found his father’s journal and looked up the date of their fishing trip. One entry was scrawled across the entire day: “Fishing with boy. Day wasted.” How do you think this made the grown boy feel? Why do you think his father had considered the day wasted? If business was not so important to his father, what might he have written instead?
