AISATS is committed to providing world class
airport services with the highest level of safety to its
customers through qualified staff, well-maintained
equipment, established procedures, regular and adequate
training / re-training and proper supervision. All levels of
staff at AISATS are accountable for the delivery of the safe
and efficient services to our customers.
We are also committed to continual improvements to provide
a safe and healthy working environment. This is made
possible through establishing, implementing and maintaining
an effective occupational health and safety management
program.
How does AISATS do it?
AISATS has a Safety Management System, in compliance
with the standards of ICAO Annexes and DGCA-CAR (Section
1 – General Series 'C' Part I) which specify the requirements for
the establishment of a Safety Management System (SMS) by
an organization.
In AISATS, SMS is implemented through the following;
i. Safety policy and objectives on which the safety system is
based.
ii. System for identifying hazards to operational safety and for
evaluating and managing the associated risks.
iii. System for ensuring that staff are trained and are
competent to perform their duties.
iv. System for voluntary reporting and analyzing of hazards,
incidents and accidents and for taking corrective actions to
prevent their recurrence.
v. Safety performance monitoring through well defined
parameters.
vi. Process for conducting periodic reviews or audits of the
SMS.
vii. Safety promotion in order to create Safety Awareness
through safety briefings, safety workshops, safety fliers,
and safety quizzes etc.
For the implementation of SMS, training is also essential. Such
training include:
1. Ramp Safety Awareness training: Each and every staff
undergoes this basic ramp safety awareness training and
activities being performed, including the do’s & don’ts at
the ramp.
2. Safety Management System training: This training
provides an overview of safety requirements and
guidelines for safe operations, the importance of
identifying and reporting hazards and associated risks
through direct approach or through voluntary reporting
system.
3. Emergency Response training: This training provides
an overview on emergency situations that one might
encounter while working and the steps to be taken to
address each situation..
4. Human Factors training: This training provides an
understanding and knowledge of human factor principles
to prevent potential incidents.
5. Refresher Trainings: These trainings play a major role in
ensuring the continual improvement of the workforce with
current knowhow required to perform their role effectively.
The objective of these trainings is to appraise the staff on
various key issues , key incidents which are happening
and involves new learning , knowledge , change in
approach etc. These are being conducted at regular
intervals.

In this issue, we focus on one of the core values in AISATS – SAFETY
“Safety is the first and
foremost Core Value of
AISATS. We are
focused on imbibing
safety in our working
culture.”

How we keep a watch on the day-to-day activities?
To ensure that all safety requirements to adhered to in our daily
operations, the following measures are implemented at all our
Business Units (BUs) :
1. Self audits: Each operational area at the BUs will carry out
daily audits on their work areas as per checklists available.
Findings / observations shall be noted and communicated to
safety section at the BU along with their assessment,
corrective actions and proposed preventive actions.
2. Safety audit/observations: These are being done by the
BU’s safety section. These audits serve as independent
audits in addition to the self audits. The safety audits also
ensure that corrective / preventive actions recommended
have been put into implementation and to review the
feedback.
3. Incident reporting and investigation: The reporting is
done by the shift Duty Manager and the investigation will be
carried out by the team led by Safety Manager. The
objective of the investigation is to find out the root cause for
the incident and the effectiveness of the recommended
action taken.
4. Voluntary Safety Reporting System: This is a key element
in the Safety Management System. Staff are encouraged to
highlight any info on possible safety hazards
5. Monthly meetings: Monthly meetings are held between the
safety management at Corporate and BU levels to review
audit reports, incident reports etc. to ensure that appropriate
corrective & preventive actions are in place.,
6. Annual management review meeting: Annual meeting
with senior management of AISATS where an annual review
of the safety performance is conducted.
7. Safety awareness: Events / activities are also conducted to
held to enhance the safety awareness among staff. Such
activities include safety briefings, quizzes, campaigns, flyers
competitions etc.
This year, AISATS achieved a significant milestone by obtaining
ISAGO and ISO 9001:2008 certifications. However, obtaining
these certifications is just a start. Looking ahead, the challenge
is to ensure that the high standards are maintained.
With a determined and safety-minded workforce, we are
confident that we will overcome these challenges and ensure
that AISATS come out with flying colors and reach new heights
in the ground handling .
