Hello Vista Verde Cougars! The year at Vista Verde Middle School has started out
amazing! Our back to school night for this year was a hit! We had a raffle, hot dogs prepared by our
amazing staff and a club walk. New for this year we have clubs! For example, the chess club, art club,
newsletter club, theater club, cooking club and travel club. Don’t forget our amazing programs available for
all students at Vista Verde Middle School. This year, we started our Jr. Scholars program led by Mrs. Pram-
schufer. We also have our Gifted and Talented, Education (G.A.T.E) program led Mrs. Lowell. Don’t forget
we also have an excellent Advancement, Via, Individual, Determination (A.V.I.D) program led by Mr. An-
dres. This year, our library is now having eBooks and new titles available for all students. Remember to
return overdue books and keep them nice and clean. Some other accomplishments include that we are a
National Forum Schools to Watch School and we are a California Gear Up School. For our parents, we have
created a parent center where you can check your child’s grades and relax. Also, get involved by helping
our Parent, Teacher, Organization team (P.T.O).
Welcome Back Cougars!
For this year I have three expectations: I
want students to be involved in
something such as clubs and sports. Our
goal is also to get at least a 98%
attendance for the school year. I am also
excited for students competing in different events such as
National History Day, STEAM Night, sports, Spelling Bee,
Geography Bee, and writing contests. These are my expec-
tations for this school and I know we can achieve them!

ELD is a program that help students develop the
skills of Language Arts. It is taught by Mrs. Schoenfelder.
This year she is looking forward to having a lot of students
that get reclassified out of ELD. She graduated from
California Baptist University in Riverside. She teaches are
ELD/ELA. Her goal for this year is to help as many students
as possible and be a better teacher. This year she noticed
that the students are more responsible and respectful.
STEAM is a program that stands for Science,
Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. STEAM
helps students learn perseverance, teamwork, or-
ganization, utilize thoughts, and learning failure is
another opportunity for success. Mrs. Ubrun, the
teacher of STEAM for 7th grade, says that the stu-
dents in her class learn these qualities by hands on
projects, the Engineering Design, and collaboration.
Mr. Flores is the STEAM coordinator for 6th grade.
This year in AVID, we have a new group called the AVID
keepers. This club consist of boys that are good enough to be
in AVID who need a little extra help to get into AVID. They
are all lead by the wonderful teacher Mr. Andres. Lexys
Brown, the vice president of AVID, states that this year will
be fun and full of memories and friend making. So for those
not in AVID, I will do all I can to make this year a great one.
For those in AVID we are going to going to Cal Poly Pomona,
Knott’s Berry Farm, and Six Flags. Coming up is a chocolate
fundraiser! See you around cougars.
The purpose of THINK Together is to provide a
safe environment for the students of Vista Verde
Middle School in which they have both and
academic and sport support. The program allows
the students to practice their skills on socializing,
classwork/homework, and exercising. Many of the
students take advantage of their time after school to
finish up their class work and homework.
ASB (room 401) is wanting to make cougars have
more school spirit and make them get involved in the school
activities. Mrs. J. said,” we want students to be more
cougarrific. They want to bring fun activities on campus that
all of the students will enjoy.” ASB students also want to
show leadership in the school.
Mrs. Lowell is running GATE club with many
events planned throughout the school year. GATE
club is going to run toys for tots, a fundraiser at
Chili's on October 7 (anyone is invited), and on De-
cember 3 will be Renaissance Night. There is also
many after school gate enrichment classes and
fieldtrips. So if you're in gate go to gate club on
Mondays.

Mrs. William have interesting plans this year for Cou-
gar Swag are to try to focus on doing different dance genres
this year like jazz, disco, hip hop, and maybe a religious dance.
She would also want to spread good behavior in and out the
school from all the students here at Vista Verde Middle
School. She wish this year would be a great year for Cougar
Swag and the students here at Vista Verde.
Bible Club is a new club here at Vista. The club is
meant to help those who are interested in learning
more about the Bible. The club appears to work in a
way that students will
read different verses and
stories of the bible and
discuss them. For more
information contact Mr.
Jones the club's advisor.
NJHS is an organization that is for the brightest and top
students. This organization invites the top students of the whole
school to make them even greater leaders. Only 64 out of 300 stu-
dents are invited to this organization and only 20 of the 64 actually
make it. The students have to go through an application process to
enter. Mrs. Ornelas hopes that through this organization many stu-
dents take advantage of it and come to tutoring for help. Like this
many students will benefit from it. She also wants all the members
to have fun with this and just overall have a good time.
