Welcome Message from the editor..

“Invictus”

A popular poem from the late nineteenth century by the

English author WilliamErnest Henley.

Invictus is for “unconquered.” The speaker in the poemp

roclaims his strength in the face of adversity:

My head is bloody, but unbowed....

I am the master of my fate;

I am the captain of my soul.

Our institute conducted three days National level

Technical fest “Invictus 2018”in the month of April.

The purpose of this fest is to involve our students and

other college students to participate in technical

competitions in various branches of Engineering. Also,

the other skills of the students are explored during this

fest. Civil Engineering students of our college did an art

exhibition named “Rakshak” keeping the theme-Indian

army and the life of soldiers. The students from all the

years did an exhibition named “Ink it in” to show their

artistic skills like, drawing, sketching, painting,

sculpture etc. Overall, the program ended well and the

students were happy with the amount of exposure they

got during this fest.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

MECHATRIX-2K18, Annual National Level Technical Festival as a part of INVICTUS-2018 was organized by the department on 6th& 7th April 2018. During this technical fest the department has organized events like Paper Presentation Contest on Recent Advances in the Mechanical Field, Solid Modeling contest, Technical Quiz Contest.

Department of Civil Engineering

“FUNDAMENTUM - 2018” a two day technical Fest was organized by Civil Engineering department as part of National level Technical Fest during 6th & 7th April 2018. Students from ten colleges of Karnataka &Maharastra participated in the fest. Events like Technical paper presentation, Quick Surveying, Civil Treasure Hunt & Technical Quiz Competition were held during the fest.

An art exhibition was also organized

by the department by the theme

“Rakshak” where in art works by

students & staff were exhibited.

Department of Architecture

As a part of Invictus-2k18, the department of Architecture conducted a design competition on the theme ‘AN ICONIC STRUCTURE ON OR INSIDE BUBBLE OR USING BUBBLES’. Department of Architecture also conducted an event called NEWS PAPER DRESS DESIGN with the theme “Super Heroes and Fairytale characters – Deconstruction” on 07-04-2018 in Department of Architecture. Students were allowed to take their favorite super heroes and fairytale characters and deconstruct the original dress and design according to the theme. One participant from each group was allowed to wear the designed costume and represent the group and explain their theme.

In another event called FACE PAINTING with the theme “LOVE AND WAR” –was organized on 07-04-2018 in Department of Architecture. Students were allowed to use three fabric colorsto depict the fairytale theme characters. One participant from each group was allowed to paint on the face and represent the group and explain their theme.

A seminar on How to write an undergraduate

project Report was jointly organized by Automobile

and Mechanical Engineering departments for the

benefit of VIII semester students of final year

engineering are supposed to prepare/write a report

on their project work. Hence, this seminar was

organized to give information to students on

preparing the project report neatly.

A motivational talk on “Five Qualities All

Students Must Have for Sure Success” was

organized on 04-04-2018 for the benefit of IV, VI

and VIII semester students of Automobile

Two days seminar on “Electric Hybrid and

Autonomous Vehicles Technology” Jointly

Organized by Department of Automobile

Engineering and TATA Technologies, Pune on 4th

During this workshop, two Sessions on Machine

Learning initiatives, case studies and examples

were delivered by Dr. P. B. Patil from Dept. of

Computer Science and Engineering.

“Lecture series 2& 3 on cloud computing and its

applications” was organized.

Department of CSE,ISE and MCA organized The Lecture Series on “Cloud computing and its applications”, during 8-9 May 2018. The resource person was Rahul Shelke, Clover Info Tech. pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. Data storage by uploading/downloading documents to cloud environment and sharing of cloud data (using Share point) were covered during the lecture series. It also covered Application developments, triggering mails through twitter and Facebook. All the sessions conducted were hands on sessions. The target audience included faculty

and students of Dept. of CSE/ISE/MCA.

Department of Civil Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Sequential activities in construction” on 13th April 2018.y Shri. Ashok JamkhandiConsultant, Shridevi Constructions was the resource person.

Twenty five Students of 8th semester & three faculty members visited Madhu Industries, Gunnapur to study practical procedure of prestressing, manufacturing of electric PSC and RCC poles, RMC plant and M Sand Factory on 4th April 2018.

6th semester Students of Civil Engineering department were taken to a Residential building construction site for soil sample collection at Venkatgiri layout, Vijayapur on 12th April 2018.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Career Opportunities for engineering students” on

06/04/2018.Mr.SundhindraShirguppi, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Delivery for Engineering & Geo Spatial Business Group at Rolta Bombay was the resource person.

Faculties of Department of Mechanical Engineering and faculties of other departments had an interaction with

Dr.SripadMoulikarof IITBombay.

Parents Meet organized:

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized

Parent meeting on 5th May 2018. Parents of 20

students have attended the meeting and their

opinionswere taken into account. Parents

expressed their satisfaction towards the

department for motivating the students by

organizing various activities like TED Talks,

Guest lectures etc.

A seminar on Catia was conducted for students of

Mechanical Engineering. The Resource person

Solutions, Bangalore on 8th May, 2018.

Project Exhibition:

Department of Mechanical Engineering had organized Final year students Project Exhibition - 2018 on 22nd May, 2018. Total 48 projects were exhibited and four projects have been adjudged as the best projects and awarded with cash prizes and certificates.

university for her achievement.

BLDEACET students attended TCS TECHBYTES 2018 conducted at AIET, Gulbarga on

12/03/2018 and there were total 10teams representing our college . Our college students Akash

Kulkarni and Kiran Chitari of CSE department have done it through the final round and Won the

Regional Finals of Gulbarga region with a high difference. This the 4th win out of 6 times we

participated in TcsTechBytes. Other students have received certificates. The whole event in

Gulbarga was covered By BLDEACET MEDIA.

April 2018.

Research Day Celebration:

On the occasion of institute research day, a two day workshop on “Organizing Research with Reference

Management Tools” was jointly organized by Research and Development Cell and Library and

Information Centre of BLDEA’s V. P. Dr. P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology,

Vijayapura.on the 25th and 26th of May, 2018. The workshop started with a welcome address by Dr. (Smt)

G. V. Patil Professor, Dept of Mechanical and Institute R&D coordinator. She briefly introduced the theme

of the workshop and introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Kusal K. Das, to the participants. Dr. V. P. Huggi,

Principal, BLDEA’s V. P. Dr. P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology,

Vijayapura.emphasized on the importance of the workshop.

Dr. Kusal K. Das, Professor, Laboratory of vascular physiology and medicine, BLDE Deemed to be

University,Visiting Professor of Leeds University, UK and Tulane Univ., USA and Chief Guest of the

workshop appreciated the efforts made by the coordinators and appropriateness of the theme of the

workshop. During the key note address, he deliberated on the importance of the “Ethics in Research and

Publication” in collaboration with the committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), London. He said research

is to extend human knowledge beyond what is already known. He focused on how research is evaluated,

especially emphasizing on where India stands in the field of research. He addressed the participants on the

importance of ethics in research, what are the ethical issues in research? Why ethical problems with

scientific articles are increasing globally. His serious thoughts on research misconduct and various factors

influencing it was the need of the hour. Dr. M. M. Bachalapur, Chief Librarian Presented the vote of

thanks.

During the workshop, the second annual research report - 2018 was released by the Honorable Chief Guest

Dr. Kusal. K. Das and he also appreciated the committee members for their worthy work. More than 80

participants had taken part in the workshop and got the benefit out the workshop. On the second day,

Hands on Practice was conducted on the Reference Management Tools- Mendley.

To motivate the researchers of the institute and also to augment the research activities, the R & D Cell has

given away the appreciation awards to the following categories.

1) Best publishers of the departments - 09

2) Best publishing departments - 04

3) Best research scholar of the institute. 03
