7Steel Sprintcar Invitational Jackpot kick starts Avalon season. The new season came early with Avalon kicking off proceedings on October 10th with the $10,000 to win 7Steel Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational. Veteran Max Dumesny (pictured left), who had not qualified directly into the field under the events rules but was reliant on a wild card invitation, led every lap of the ten lap, eight car final to take a huge $1,000 per lap victory. David Murcott tried his best but had to settle for second and $5,000 while Grant Anderson, ahead of the Dave Horell WSS announcement, made the final via the non-qualifiers event and took a neat $3,000 for his third place finish.

All up there was $24,000 prize money on the final alone, with a guaranteed $1,000 to start for the elite 8 car field. Not a single rollover was incurred throughout the evening despite a hooky and fast track. The biggest incidents were the Robbie Farr & Stephen Lines clash at the start of the Semi Final and then later Farr’s huge wheel stand. The Drew family took a punt with this unique event to kick off their 34th season of racing and were rewarded with a big crowd. Some fine tuning may be needed for the event before next years version but overall it was something different in its structure and seemed to be well accepted by the majority of those in attendance. At the same event dual and current Australian Street Stock champion Brad McClure (pictured below) unleashed his new Commodore streetie. Yes, Brad has returned to his roots and gone back to the GMH product led in no small part by his friend and nemesis Anthony Beare. A lack of testing opportunity meant McClure didn’t quite have the car the way it needed to be and Beare, with a season of competition in his similar Commodore under his belt, had the edge. Incredibly in the final neither car finished. McClure had no power steering and Beare suffered a misfire in the engine. Ironically when both drivers fired up their machines to exit the infield post race, McClure found his power steering had returned and Beare’s misfire had disappeared. Troy Polley in his ageing Falcon took a popular, but surprised win in the main event.

As an added bonus fans got to see the first Avalon appearance by young Aus-tralian V8 Dirt Modified Champion Peter Britten (Pictured at left). Local racer Daryl Hickson had purchased a Troyer chassis from Britten who took the oppor-tunity to deliver the car and have a race before heading on to Perth for some more events. Veteran Trevor Perry won the opening heat but it was at the expense of his en-gine and Britten didn’t look overly quick as he adapted to the track for the first time. Come feature time however Britten showed his true form and won the main event as well as setting a new track record along the way. All in all the meeting was packed with quality cars and current or former na-tional champions in all divisions presented including Dumesny and Robbie Farr in the Sprintcars, Bear and McClure in the streeties and Britten in the dirt mod.

EUREKA GARAGES AND SHEDS SERIES HAS DRIVERS WIDE EYED

By Jarryd Stokes Throughout season 2009/2010 the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series will keep drivers pushing their machinery and ability to the limit with over $240,000 worth of prize money and awards on offer. One of the highlights of the Eureka Ga-rages and Sheds Series is the amount of nightly awards on offer from a loyal bunch of sponsors of one of Australia’s strongest domestic series.

Of course the ultimate goal of each driver is to win the $10,000 cheque and be crowned the Eureka SRA Champion at the completion of the 12-round series and also give themselves a chance of winning what will be an immensely popular prize, a KTM 450 XC ATV mo-torbike valued at over $16,000. To be in the running for the KTM the driver must finish inside the top ten point score and attend the end of sea-son presentation dinner where there will be a draw for a 1/10 chance of winning the outstanding quad bike.

After each round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series there will be nightly awards on offer that will be broadcasted to race fans below each SRA media release.

There will always be a hard luck story from a night of racing and D&F Racing Products will supply a $50 voucher to one driver judged the unluckiest com-petitor of the round, while Elf Racing Methanol will also donate a $50 voucher to the top point scorer each night.

Cascade Solutions for Cleaning have a $90 voucher to the first driver to finish in the B-Main and not transfer to the A-Main, while Smiley’s Racing Products will recognise the winner of the B and C Main.

Any Sprintcar that finishes on the po-dium that has four American Racer Tires on it will win a tidy $200 cash from American Tire and Racing Services, while there will also be a random draw at the start of the A-Main for a finishing spot between 6_16 and the driver that finishes in that position will win a Amer-ica Racer right rear tyre.

Every race will hold importance not only for the overall points score, but also for end of season contingency awards. Hi Ace Wings will supply a free top wing to the winner of the most B-Mains, while John Sidney Racing will allow a free engine dyno tune for the most cars passed in A-Main events.

Corey Gibson Photography, Maxam Printing and Sprintcarworld are also proud supporters of the Eureka Ga-rages and Sheds Series.

SRA President Ian Vale is delighted with the support of the sponsors that help make the Eureka Garages and Sheds Series click.

“This season we are excited to an-nounce that there is over $240,000 worth of prize money and awards, which is a superb achievement by everybody involved. We are looking forward to the first round at Avalon Raceway on November 7,” said Vale.

Three Crowns to the King of Victorian AMCA’s.

Portland’s Adam King normally likes to pace his race and be there at the finish but when the dual Victorian Champion defended his crown at Rushworth last night (Saturday 7th), he led from the start to take a “threepeat” of Victorian Championships South Aussie David Hartman came home in second place ahead of Mark Lincoln, Stewart Grant-Campbell and Mick Jackson. Despite the non attendance of a couple of entrants it was still a large and star studded field that assembled to do battle. Paul Sullivan started off well winning the opening heat from Rockhampton's Dean Ballard and tyro Tim Reidy. Pre event favorite Daniel Scott took heat 1B from an-other favorite Mick Kiraly with Jackson in third. Aussie champ Shane McKinnell worked his way from last to finish fifth as he reacquainted to the Rushworth venue. Hartman showed that he was going to be a huge threat after blasting from last to the win in heat 1C. Campbell Hughes chased him from mid pack while Trevor Thierry was third. The final heat of the first round went to King, taking full use of his pole start to beat David May and Paul Forrest. The second set of heats were full of motor and mechani-cal dramas and retirements but Grant-Campbell, Brian Chadwick, Hartman and King took the victories. The final set of heats (high points to the rear) saw Lin-coln, May, Ballard and Kiraly score wins. McKinnell had been hoping for a fast track but the weather had worked against him leaving him on pole in the B-Main from which only two drivers would go through to the championship final. The four time Aussie champ however, made no mistake leading all the way to qualify into the feature along with fellow Queenslander Robert Irwin. Frank Thierry and Darren McCarthy

would have be the two emergencies. King led the 20 car line up for the championship decider with Sullivan, Hartman, Scott, Chadwick, Darren Clark, Jackson, Grant-Campbell, Trevor Thierry, Lincoln, Kiraly, Ballard, May, Rick Clark, Cory Fox, Hughes, Forrest, Bill Lodwick Jnr, McKinnell and Irwin. From his prime position King led Sullivan away as the action began to unfold instantly behind them when Kiraly, May and McKinnell got together. McKinnell hit the wall and got out to check the damage, It appeared as if he could continue on but he was unable to restart hav-ing “broken his belts”.

Again King (picture above) and Sullivan led the field away as many others suffered dramas including Frank Thierry, Scott and Hughes who all suffered flat tyres at different points throughout the race. May stopped with a mechanical issue as did Forrest. Rick Clark succumbed to a broken coil wire and Irwin’s car was overheating. Sullivan threw away a solid finish when he spun out of second place on lap 15 and watched Hartman and Lin-coln take the final podium positions. Completing the field were Grant-Campbell; Jackson, Chadwick, Kiraly, Frank Thierry (who’d got a start when McKinnell had stopped), Darren Clark, Sullivan, Fox, Ballard, Lodwick and McCarthy.

While King may have gone flag to flag it wasn’t that straight forward. “After Avalon, we went right through the car and found a couple of little things. My dad, Terry, spent a lot of time on the car and from the moment we took it out of the truck we only made a few minor adjustments all night.” King explained. However, they did have a slight issue to contend with. “We geared the car a little tall and that meant we were a bit slow off the line. Once we got going we were okay but with all the stoppages it became a bit of a problem.” King said. “On the restarts I was going into turn one and two a little hot and this allowed (Daniel) Scott and (David) Hartman to have a go at me on a couple of occa-sions. It was a one lane track and once I realized that all I had to do was roll in a little slower and guard the bottom it was not an issue. The track was pretty slick right throughout the night and that was how we thought it would go and it also seems to suit my style.” “To win three in a row is fantastic and I need to thank all of my sponsors (PORT City Engines, Allstar Graphics, Tritech Lubricants & Trident Tyre Centres) and my crew and family especially my dad for all of his effort.” Con-cluded King. With the title being an early fixture of the new season King now has plenty of races to proudly wear the V1 on his impressive looking Port City Engines V1 AMCA. Everyone else has only two weeks to lick their wounds and regroup before the Country Cup continues at Hor-sham on November 21st. P.S. This championship winning car is for sale.

VAN BREMEN FLIES FOR FIRST EVER AVALON WIN IN EUREKA THRILLER

By Jarryd Stokes

Victorian crowd favourite Mike Van Bre-men has reached one of his career goals by finally winning an A-Main event at Gee-long’s Avalon Raceway in his 15th season of Sprintcar racing. ‘The Flying Dutchman’ led every lap of the 30-lap final, holding off a fast finishing Matthew Reed and John Vogels in the opening round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series last night (November 7). Van Bremen, a two time SRA Series Champion, has been in the position to win at Avalon Raceway on numerous occa-sions, but finally broke through for a jubi-lant win that lit up Avalon Raceway for all the right reasons. The Lilydale driver was fourth on points after heat racing and set the second fast-est time in the top six shootout to start alongside third generation racer Nick Lacey for the final. Lacey was showing his more experienced campaigners how to do it by qualifying highest on points after heat racing, but also setting the quickest time in the shootout to start from pole position in the main event.

In a thrilling start to the final, Lacey and Van Bremen ran wheel to wheel into the first turn, with Van Bremen just gaining the ascendancy to claim the lead.

Lacey was quickly swamped by Vogels and Jamie Veal and dropped back to fourth, with Matthew Reed was also in the

action. In the jostle for positions, Lacey was unluckily caught out on the back straight and suffered a flat right front tyre that ended his impressive night.

The race was certainly panning out per-fectly for Van Bremen, with regular stop-pages giving him a fresh start with no lap traffic in sight. With 20-laps remaining, six time SRA Se-ries Champion Reed, driving the V88 Mathew Eastham owned car, began to make his move in a dual with Veal for third position while Vogels held down second. Veal pulled up in turn four with ten laps

remaining while in fourth position, which elevated the likes of Charles Hunter and Rod Matthews in a position to battle for a podium result. Reed was continuing his run, using the highline at Avalon to great advantage as he challenged Vogels, with both drivers nervously touching each other at speed d o w n t h e b a c k s t r a i g h t . South Australian challenger Craig Vander-stelt brought up a vital yellow light when he pulled up on the exit of turn four with just six laps remaining. Reed was briefly into second place but had to go back to third for the restart. Reed quickly got by Vogels and set his sights on long time on track rival Van Bre-men, knowing that his off track friend would be sweating up with victory in sight. Van Bremen tip toed his way through the turns, while Reed was throwing everything on the high line to lose by two car lengths, another lap and it could have been a horror story for Van Bremen. “I was so nervous, with the last restart I knew I had my first win at Avalon in sight and it was all I could think about. I was so cautious in the last few laps and it almost cost me the race, if I was pipped on the line it would have been horrible,” said Van Bremen. “It was such a great feeling seeing the che-quered the flag, the crowd response was amazing, I couldn’t believe it. I suppose a lot of them have been waiting for me to win

for fifteen seasons too,” smiled MVB. Vogels finished on the podium to start his season well, while Matthews and Hunter left the track with smiles in the top five. Domain Ramsay and Brett Milburn passed plenty of cars for solid finishing positions after mixed nights behind the wheel. Carl Ludeman, Eddie Lumbar and Chris Campbell rounded out the top ten, with Philip Down, Phil Lock and Ron Dal-t o n a l l f i n i s h i n g t h e f i n a l . Heat race wins earlier in the night went to Milburn, Lumbar, Van Bremen, Vander-stelt, Veal and Reed. Fire Service Plus Sprintcar All Stars wanted to find a special way to thank their sponsors and staff for all the support they have put in during the last racing season, and what a better way to do it than to sit them in the back of a 2 seater Sprintcar! “I wanted to do something a bit different and what a fantastic way to do this. Thanks again to Anthony Vanderyden and Wettenhall Logistics who have supplied the All Stars with this car. We take the 2 Seater with us to most of our race meet-ings and take lucky members of the public for rides. But being able to thank Sponsors t h i s w a y i s a w e s o m e . Hopefully this day can be-come a regular date on our Cal-endar each year as it such a fun day for all in-volved.”

Troy Little (below) is back in action this season and looking to take on some major 410 shows around Australia including rounds of the Sprintcar All Star Series. In his first two hit outs, Troy quickly got back onto the podium by finishing 3rd to Bryan Mann and Max Dumesny in the Mac-kay Classic and then, 2nd to Marty Perovich in the first round of the NSW Country Series at Dubbo. At Dubbo Little had actually passed Perovich for the lead but was put back thanks to the yel-lows flying. Having shown Marty where to run he was unable to repeat the move in the time left and finished on his rear nerf.

The SRA and the Sprintcar All Stars have signed a one year agreement whereby the All Star Series will be recognised by the SRA as the Victorian 360 series under the SRA and the SCCA. Since the recent SCCA engine rule changes which now allow the ASCS 360 engines nationally, a major barrier has been removed which previously divided the competi-tors and in many ways restricted the growth of 360s. Ian Vale, the SRA President, said “the agreement is a significant breakthrough and paves the way forward whereby the 360s can now promote themselves as a united group under the SCCA rules and regula-tions”.. The promoting organisation of the All Star Series is the All Star Speedway Promotions Inc. which was estab-lished primarily to develop a high profile series for 360 sprintcars throughout Victoria and beyond Ray Solomon commented “that for many years, the SRA had as part of its management structure, repre-sentatives of the 360 owners and drivers. These peo-ple have been dedicated to developing a viable 360 series but for one reason or another, real success was not achieved. I wish to acknowledge their ( SRA 360 representatives) contribution in getting the par-ties to the table and working through the issues. This

agreement provides a great opportunity for the 360 class to now establish itself in the market place”. The number of competitors at 360 Sprintcar shows this season is set balloon based on the number of new and existing open car owners/drivers who have indicated that they will be strutting their stuff in 360 races this coming season. This growth in 360 numbers in Australia may mirror what’s has already happened in the USA where 360’s massively outnumber the 410 cars in most states of the USA. Mandy Searle, the All Stars series promoter said “We are delighted that the barriers which divided the 360 in the past have now been removed and we can get on with the promotion of the class. I believe that All Stars have a great product and we will be looking to grow the All Stars Series into the major 360 series in Australia”.

Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool has added an extra meeting to its original 2009-10 racing season calendar with the announcement that the Australian Sprintcar All-Stars 360 Series will make its way to Warrnambool on Saturday December 19, 2009. The event, which promises to be a huge pre-Christmas Sprintcar extravaganza, has been a long time in the plan-ning, with all parties now confident of one of the best 360 Sprintcar line-ups in recent times turning out at Sungold Stadium. Mandy Searle and the entire team involved with the Aus-

tralian Sprintcar All-Stars have been in negotiation with Premier Speedway for quite some time and with recent developments between the All-Stars, the SCCA and also the Sprintcar

Racing Association of Victoria, the path has been cleared for this event to happen. “Mandy and her team have made it clear of their desire to host a round of the All-Stars at Sungold Stadium and now that the planets have aligned so to speak, the Board and Management are more than willing to host a round of the 2009-10 series”, Premier Speedway General Man-ager David Mills said. “The All-Stars potentially have a great product. With the silly season fast coming to an end Team SBR has had some changes to the personal and are looking forward to a all out assault on the Sprintcar All Star tour once again plus some extra shows against the 410s. With Co Owner John Steuart stepping out of the drivers seat we have once again teamed up with our Queen-sland lead foot Anthony (Hammerman) Vanderreyden to take the wheel of the Free Flow Cylinder Heads Eagle full time this year. With our transport business getting busier and doing some renos around the family home I needed to step out

of the seat and concentrate on them for a while and there was no better man to fill the seat and get the job done than the Hammerman himself commented John. So this will leave other Co Owner Anthony Steuart as Crew Chief and John will concentrate on our Media side of things during the season. With our season kicking off this coming Friday night at the Bordertown Cup being held at Tolmer Speedway Bordertown SA. We did have plans for a two night show and run Adelaide on Saturday but as we nominated late we got rejected so I guess they must have a full field cars. Any way with our motor being delayed with some wrong parts we have stolen the motor out of the 2 seater and are ready to rock the little bull ring. We always seem to run well at our home track and have never been out side the top 10 so our new driver will defiantly have the hammer down to keep up the team’s home track record. Just a little insight to the other driv-ers there has been some major changes to the track in the last couple of months so just beware that when you turn up it may surprise you a little. So we will be up against the big horsepower of the 410s for the first time but we have no doubt that we will be right in the mix and can’t wait to fire into life and get some methanol back in our veins. Our fans will have to wait another couple of weeks to see our new livery as it will be revealed at the opening round of the Sprintcar All Stars at Murray Bridge. With our major backer for the past 2 seasons Truckers Toy Store not coming back on board this season we would like to really Thank Chad, Sue and the gang down there for there great help and hope to reunite with them soon. However we have signed up some great new sponsors including major sponsor Free Flow Cylinder Heads taking care of our power plants, Quad Transport and Sign Mart doing all of our sign works with out them we wouldn’t be taking to the road and doing what we love and racing Sprintcars. TEAM SBR would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support in season 2009/2010.

Due to family, business and health reasons, the catego-ries creator is being forced to reluctantly step back from his latest creation and as such is seeking to sell the bur-geoning class to an interested party. “My doctors have told me I need to slow down a bit and sadly that means that I won’t be able to put the time and effort into the class that I wanted to so the best scenario is to sell it on to a likeminded person who believes in the concept and has the time and energy to make it the re-sounding success that I know it can be.” Matthews stated. All the hard work has already been done in establishing the class and obtaining recognition and authorisation from the relevant controlling bodies and a number of high profile drivers and teams had committed to spend-ing time “topless” in the upcoming season. Speedcar Drivers Association of Victoria. This landmark 2009/2010 season will see the mighty midg-ets enter 75 years of regular competition since being intro-duced in season 1934/35 in Melbourne (interrupted only by the years of world war 2). Appropriately, to coincide with this season's celebration for the birthplace of the sport, the National controlling body "Speedcars Australia" have allocated the National Title to Victoria's Avalon Raceway which will increase the signifi-cance of the 2009/2010 Championship on this historical oc-casion. A few months ago, the VSDA committee met with Avalon Promoter, Jeff Drew, to lay the groundwork for publicity and promotion of this season's particularly important national title. David Crabtree, the President of the Victorian Speedcar Drivers Association is working hard to ensure that the Aussie Speedcar Title at Avalon Raceway, will be a huge success. “Crabby” has indicated that he maybe looking to bring an American midget driver out to pilot one of his cars, but is still to work out how he can qualify him, as he will have to compete in at least 3 speedcar race meetings in Australia prior to the title. A possible fly over and the possible appearance of Sir Jack Brabham will also be a highlight of the title.

Kilmore Electrician Daniel Scott was too hot for the opposition at Avalon last night (October 24) taking his sec-ond straight AMCA feature win nar-rowly ahead of early race leader Mick Kiraly with Chris Best and Stewart Grant-Campbell all forming a high speed racing quartet in one of the best AMCA features seen for many years. “That was great fun and the track was awesome.” Stated Scott . “I think the track had more grip in the final than it did in my last heat, but I have to thank Mick (Kiraly) for building me such a good car and my engine builder because I always knew I had a good car but now I’ve got some en-gine to go with it.” In fact that racing was so fast that many track records were broken throughout the night.

Daniel Scott - winner @ Avalon

Kiraly (The White Glove Effect #5 Panther) showed his continuation of speed from last week by blasting from fifth to the win in heat 1A ahead

of Grant-Campbell (Emjay Signs #97) and Peter Hickford (Lubrimaxx #96 Cougar). David May (All State Drainage & Ex-cavation #98) was also flying in heat 1B winning after starting fourth. Scott (Laffans Accident Repair #91 Pan-ther) ran home second ahead of Frank Thierry (Juicy Boy Citrus #7 Kempy) who’d been in a race long dual with May until the last couple of laps. Tim Reidy (Rafferty The Wrecker #79 Cougar) led all the way to win heat 1C with Campbell Hughes (Voodoo Ride #21 Atkin) ahead of Chris Best (Auto Premier Truck Centre #27 MiBest). Heat 2A saw Trevor Thierry (Juicy Boy Citrus #6 Kempy) set a new ten lap record of 2:50.78 on the way to the win ahead of Kiraly who had a half lose while trying to take the lead, and Grant-Campbell. Paul Sullivan (Container Fumigation Services #28) won heat 2B from Scott and Adam Timberlake (Peter Timberlake Race Cars #33).

Victorian Cham-pion Adam King (Port City En-gines #1) reset the 10 lap record to 2:44.01 on his

way to the win ahead of Chris best and Rick Clark (Tritech Lubricants #5. Alan Howe (Melton Carpet Court #64 MiBest) then set a new twelve lap record of 3:24.89 as he won the B-Main from Robert Taylor (Braybrook Auto Wreckers #14), Shea Bradley (Hot Impressions Cool Image #80) which had gone through an almost complete rebuild after a serious shunt the week before, and Rod Duncan (T C Oakley Automotive #57). Duncan had been running second, clear of Taylor, until he spun on the last lap and dropped a few places. As the field took off for the 20 lap fea-

ture Kiraly went straight into the lead and looked set for a feature win until a couple of laps in when the car pushed up to the turn one fence. Scott, thankfully, slipped underneath and took over the lead. Kiraly quickly recovered and from there until the chequered flag he hounded his own creation ahead of him looking up the inside on occasion. “I’m sure that Mick (Kiraly) may have pushed a little harder if the car in front hadn’t been one of his own.” Suggested Scott later. The lead duo were soon joined by Grant-Campbell and also Chris best

as they became a four car battle. “I was just watching Dan (Scott) and Mick (Kiraly) in front and waiting for them to get together and then Stewey (Grant-Campbell) and I were going to slip through into the lead.” Revealed Best post race of a scenario that never occurred. As Scott took the chequered flag for the second time in two weeks he also stopped the clocks in a new record time of 5:38.35. Finishing behind the top four cars was Reidy, Rick Clark, King, Sullivan, May, Hughes, Darren Clark (DC Car Carriers #66), Frank Thierry, Hickford, Timberlake, Howe and Taylor. Frank Thierry (tyre) and Paul Forrest (Ballarat Radiator Service #22) were the only non finishers. By virtue of cutting 5 and a half sec-onds off the 12 lap record Alan Howe was awarded the Smileys Racing Products Performance Drive of the night. The next event for the Victorian bri-gade will be the coveted Victorian Championship slated for Rushworth on November 7th , where defending champion Adam King will be looking to go for three straight wins but will have to contend with National Cham-pion Shane McKinnell, Mick Jackson, Mark Lincoln, the inform Scott and Kiraly and a host of fast locals. Brody Chrystie Racing is set to make an all out assault on the Victorian ASCF Junior Sedan scene this season. Race driver Brody, is feeling very confi-dent in his ability to come home with some results this season. Brody is back on track again after having a short 08/09 season due to suffer-ing a broken leg in Febru-ary that ended his season hopes a little premature. A full recovery from that in-jury had him back on track in May before cooling his heels waiting for the new season to begin. Brody has made some changes to his car for this season which he hopes will keep him up at the pointy end of the pack. With some help from sponsors Crow Cams and Dave Erikson the team has freshened up the power plant in the Alexandra Speedway #32 Da-tsun. The rear of the car has been re-moved and changed for the coming sea-son also after a few hits it has sustained in recent years. Brody Chrystie Racing is a popular team on the Junior Sedan circuit and is always willing to help out fellow drivers whenever they can. Whilst the team haven’t had a lot of wins Brody follows the mandate of

being out there for ‘fun and making friends’ he also has commented that “Racing isn’t all about winning and al-though I love to win races, the important thing is that it’s all about having fun and when you lose the fun in racing it’s time to give it up.“ Brody’s biggest influence on his racing would have to be his father Anthony after being a Modified Sedan champion in past years he plays a massive part in Brody’s success and racing career. Brody adding “Without my dad there I wouldn’t be able

to race at all I thank him so much for the opportunities he has given me. “ Brody Hopes to do about 20-25 meetings in the 2009/2010 season travelling all over Victoria and Australia. “We are go-ing to go over to the Australian title in Tasmania and we hope to do very well there. There are a lot of fast drivers and good cars over there. Also we want to do the Victorian title at Western Speedway Hamilton and hope to run up there with the best of the best in Victoria.”

Brody is surely going to be one to watch this season. Having the best opportunities and equipment is a key ingredient to suc-cess and having the ability also which Brody definitely has. Brody and Brody Chrystie Racing would like to thank the following people: Crow Cams, Allan T. Hall plumbing Perry Logging, Christie’s Museum Hormans Service Centre , NCT Also some very special people that put in a very good effort all the time Mick Chrystie, Allan Hall, Dave and Shane Erikson, Nan and Pa, Kerrie and Shane also the Gorman family and just everyone that helps out over the race season and makes me so successful and so proud of my racing. FORBES. Father and/or son return this season?????. Robert Forbes (right) returns to the track this season as part of the Formula Mo-torsports Sprintcar Team. The #27 Car will be powered by an ex Travis Rilat ASCS motor and will be presented in the new Formula Motorsports livery. Bob said “I’m keen to get back into the chair for another season. I’ve had to step back a bit in recent times due to business commitments, but we’ll do the best we can” . Jason Forbes, Robert’s son and ex speedcar driver said that “If the old bloke gets a bit tied up with other things, I’m always ready to jump in to help out”

Chris Solomon V83 (left) will be aboard the FMG Kimbo Transport/Aussie Stop Leak eagle (see right) that was raced successfully by Troy Little in the USA some 2 years ago. “With a new paint job, the car looks great. I’m looking forward to the new season in the hope I can improve my overall standing in the All Stars Series and hopefully get on the po-dium a few times” said Chris.

Paul Solomon V7 (Right), last years winner of the All Star Series will be in a new ea-gle chassis with new running gear. “It’s going to be a big ask to be up the front again this season because of the influx of new drivers and teams and especially those South Aussies, they’re fast and have good equipment, but there’s nothing like a challenge” .

Peter Milnes (V51) was one of the outstanding newcomers to the Sprintcar ranks last season and promises to be one of the “hard chargers” during the 2009/10 sea-son. Peter was recently interviewed by e-mags’ Brett Swanson. BS: You’ve got to be very happy with what you achieved last year. PM: “It took us a bit to get to under-stand what we were doing, coming from Hot Rods, we did work with torsion bars and similar type of sus-pension, but obviously wings were new to us and shocks were a lot more technical”. BS: 700 Horsepower? PM: “Yes we struggled a bit to get our head around the set up for a start, then Ian Harris hopped on board mid way through last season and we actually started to move forward, we’ve just got to get con-sistent now”. BS: You looked to be having a good night

at the invitational event at Avalon last month. PM: “Yes, we were pretty happy with our first hit out in the invitational event. We had stripped the car completely during the off season, were running the same chassis as we did last year, we only had a 372 engine last year, we were about 640-650 hp. We’ve put the 410 in this year were over 800 hp, so had a bit to get our head around on the first night. We qualified 9th in the semi final, we got up as far a 5th, then I got a whack in the front left that bent the shaft in the left front shocker”. BS: You said you were very happy starting with a 372, now the 410, do you think that was a good thing not to have the brute HP of a 410, but something in between first up?

PM: “Absolutely, I think the 372 was a bit smoother but towards the end of the sea-son when the tracks were very hooky, we had a 372 at the end of last season, that would wheel stand and carry on. This is going to be different with another 150 HP , but were starting to learn about how to set the car up. I think the 372 first, was right way to go initially.

Domain Ramsay has been around in sprintcars for a number of years but has yet to win a feature, he’s hoping this will all change this season. The Essendon Ford, V20 driver has his sights firmly on the SRA Eureka Sprintcar Series this season and will be competing in all rounds of the Series. In a recent interview with Brett Swanson, Domain had the following to say about his future plans etc. BS: Your history is in mini sprints where you could run with the front runners, how difficult was it to step up from the mini sprints to the Sprintcars? DR: The power difference obviously & the fitness levels was the biggest thing. When we first started we got into a 360, did a few laps and was pretty puffed out fairly quickly. BS; Speaking of 360’s, as well as the 410 car this year you’re going to do some All Star events as well. DR; Yes, we’re going to give the 360’s another go this year, we bought

a motor, its getting freshened up at John Sidney, then we will join the All Stars for a few rounds. It should be good fun and I’m looking forward to it. BS; What are your expectations when you come up against some of the 360 guys? DR; I think the 360 guys are just as competitive as the open guys, I’m not expecting to go out and win races, there are a lot of good drivers in there, it will be very competitive. I’m looking forward to doing some laps and have some fun. When you get to a place like Warrnambool, I don’t think the speeds will be all that different, I don’t expect them to be, maybe the take off speed maybe a little different but once were travelling, there’s not that much difference. BS; That’s a real bonus for the 360’s, having another quality car and driver running the All Stars Series. DR; The All Stars series is being run very, very well, last year it would have been good to do some races, we were going to do a round last year, we were going to hire a motor off MAXWILL, but I crashed my open car, that ended that fairly quickly so we couldn't do it. BS: On the open Championship, you’re going to chase the Eureka Series the whole season? DR Yes I’ve never actually done the whole Eureka series, we’re going to do that this year, fit in a few 360 races and the Classic and Easter Trail etc BS; Last year at Warrnambool, you had a particularly good night, it was a fast night, the car was fast and you were on your game. DR; I love Warrnambool, I reckon its the best race track in Australia, Its good there, its fast, I really, really like it, faster the better! BS; You need to be smooth? DR Yes you need to be smooth because the speeds are so high, you’ve only got to make a little mistake, especially in time trials, it doesn’t take much to be a few tenths off, so instead of being in the top ten, you can end up in the back forty cars.

Team Drew Motorsport has rounded out the 08/09 Speedway season with a won-derful showing at the recent Victorian Modified Production Association awards night taking home the prestigious Sportsman Award voted on by all other drivers at each round. The Team Drew crew turned out in force at Bendigo with Gary and Helen Drew, Jason Evans, Wayne Sherman, Josh Fort, Rachel, Sam Drew, Tara and Justin Drew all there. Highlights of the season included win-ning back to back Di Watson Memorial’s as a result of winning at Nyora Speed-bowl at the start of the season, where the team also won round one of the VMPA season as a result. This was done with a broken driveshaft as the team was to find out as they put the car in the race trailer. The team also were the best presented crew on the night. The biggest highlight during the season though was winning round four of the ‘Bass Highway Waste’ VMPA season at home track Avalon Raceway ahead of local rival Mark Carlin who had been the man to beat during the night and led most of the feature race until Drew made an outside pass to take the lead on the last lap and go on to win. The win

took place in front of a packed house as a support event to the National Super Sedan series on the same night at the Place for Pace. At the Victorian title at Warrnambool in February the team once again proved their standing as one of the top three teams in the state of Victoria when at one stage battling for second with Mi-chael Hetherington behind a rampaging Andrew Blackwell. Drew was unfortunate not to finish the race as a result of an incident during racing, giving the team a spur for the next two VMPA rounds.

At Horsham and Hamilton Speedways to round out the Victorian season the team finished second twice behind Blackwell in the feature races however took out round honours at both events by virtue of most points through the evening accu-mulated with heats finishes, cars passed and feature result and cars passed. Through the season each driver in the VMPA votes on the best sportsmen at each round. This year Justin Drew was named the VMPA Sportsman. As testa-ment to his standing amongst competi-tors they voted Justin Drew top Sports-man at 3 out of the five rounds he con-tested and with all the votes tallied at the end of the season Drew was the overall Sportsman of the Year.

After receiving the honour Justin said “I am humbled by the acknowledgement from my peers of my standing amongst them as a true Sportsman of the class. I race to win and whilst I came up short this year for the championship and title races and that causes it’s own frustra-tions and disappointment’s I get back on the track as quick as I can to do it again the following week. Anybody is welcome to ask for help and I will offer it where I think somebody needs it. We need each other to help our sport grow and I’m privileged to have received your votes this season, thank you.” Drew didn’t have far to wait before he was up on stage again to receive the best presented car and crew award. award is presented by track representa-tives at each round and Drew took out the votes at Nyora and Swan Hill and a couple of second places at Horsham and Hamilton. In the overall point score for the season Drew finished third behind Blackwell and Graham West. Drew didn’t make it to Mildura and had mechanical issues at Swan Hill and wasn’t that far off the mark and could have gone further if the case was different. With Mildura no longer clashing with Avalon Raceway events in the coming season the team will be looking to complete all rounds of the VMPA and aim to take out the sea-son point score. At the Australian title in Albany in West Australia Team Drew Motorsport with crew chief Damian Smith were once again in the top half dozen cars in the country with a strong qualification for the final and running in the top 5 for most of the race until the car and driver pulled out of the race due to damage. Justin wanted to thank ‘Profire Pyro-technics & Blasting P/L’ who came on-board with sponsorship specifically to help the team get to Albany. Speedway in West Gippsland roared to life once more as the 09/10 season got itself into full swing with the first National category visit’s for the season as the Formula 500’s and Compact Speedcars hit the track on Sunday the 8th of November. The Formula 500’s in round one of their Statewide KC Sheds & Garages & Tri Steel Stampede Series arrived with a mixture of accomplished veterans and youthful exuberance as defending series champion Dale Sinclair along with seasoned campaigners Ian Smith, Matt Turner and Kevin Freeman took on fresh face from the Junior Sedans Jesse Nicholas and youngster Jeremy Beddison and James Aranyosi. Six heats produced wins to Tim Hicks, Jeremy Beddison x 2, Kevin Freeman, Steve Horton and Jesse Nicholas who is in his rookie season. Nicholas who started on pole couldn’t make the most of

the position as Chad Sullivan scooted away and Hicks got by in the early going. Smith moved forward also getting past Nicholas whilst Hicks got airborne in turn one at around half distance bringing about a red light stoppage. At the green Sullivan stormed away to defeat Nicholas, Smith, Beddison, Jye O’Keefe, Dale Sinclair, Turner, Horton, Ash Sinclair and Freeman. Ben Brighton and Marc Montague took out the heats in Men’s Standards and Montague in his first official senior feature win led all the way finishing ahead of Brighton, Rene Van Der Elst, Jason Leonard, Shane Ardley and Jared Gleeson. The Compact Speedcars ran three heats with wins to Brad Day, Jason Crawford and Troy Woolley only to not get to run their feature due to a Speedway rule that can see a categories final cancelled if they can’t get the race started after 3 attempts. The guys just couldn’t get

through turn one and the Chief Steward invoked the cancellation rule. Ladies Standard Saloons was won by Debbie Donaldson from Teagan Bullard and Anne Good-ing whilst the Junior Standards result was Shaun Clegg, Matt Nelson and Brodie Montague. The final class was the Open Independents and Rob Bickham took the win from Rick McCormack and Wayne Nelson.
