    Ata Marie Koutou,

Well today has been a very busy science day. Our displayshave been set up in the hall and will be open to publicviewing once the judging is complete. There has been alot of work put into our science fair, both at home and atschool. Thank you to all of our families for supporting our

students with their learning. Kim Basse the principal of Ruapehu College, came overthis morning to help us with judging our science fair. She was very impressed with thecalibre of our displays and experiments and wanted me to pass on a few words.

Mrs Basse: I can see that a lot of work has gone into these displays. It is great to seethat students had help from parents, especially to purchase materials. It is good to seewhat the students were interested in and how they were researching. It is obvious thatsome Waiouru School students are budding scientists, which is fantastic as science issuch an important part of school and learning.

I must also mention the special science project our New Entrant students(Piwakawaka) are engaged in. Piwakawaka, thanks to a huge amount of help from

their parents, have built a school chicken coop. We have kindly been donated fivechickens from the Walker family, and now our little guys have their own chickenfarming enterprise!! The chickens will be feed with food scraps, and supplemented withchicken feed. Eggs will be sold at the office to pay for the chicken feed. Now I was alittle sceptical that the chicken would lay (I thought the move and getting used to 86children staring at them might put them off), but low and behold, Piwakawaka came into show me TWO EGGs!! they had gathered this morning! Well done Piwakawaka andhelpers.

Have a great weekend, and hopefully the snow won't be too bad and I will see you

    all tomorrow.
