How did you get started in photography?

For awhile my Dad was a crime scene investigator, so he owned an SLR and a couple of nice lenses. A little over a year ago I picked up his cam-era, started messing around with it and ended up completely falling in love with photography.

What inspires you?

Everything really! I think movies inspire me more than any-thing though. I'm al-ways working towards giving my photos a more cinematic feel.

Congrats on recently finishing your 365! What was your favorite mo-ment?

Thank you! That's such a tough question! I guess my favorite moment was on New Years Eve. I was

almost a week behind on my uploads, I hadn't been on Flickr in ages, and my mood was seriously suf-fering as a result. When I was editing the week's pictures I was thinking about how my project

was coming to an end and how happy just edit-ing the pictures made me. I think that's the moment I realized that photogra-phy always needs to be a part of my life.

What are a couple things you learned through the process of your 365?

I think the most impor-tant thing I've learned is that I'm my own biggest critic. Some of my "most interesting photos" on

Flickr I never would have posted if it weren't for the fact that I had to for my 365. My 365 has really taught me that experi-menting is probably the best thing you can do as a photographer, and that

I should always push my-self creatively.

What's one of your fa-vorite locations to shoot at?

I love shooting on the beach. The closest beach to me is two hours away, so I don't get to shoot there very often, but when I do I find it very peace-ful. At the same

time I think it's kind of disappointing though because I feel like I can never quite capture just how beautiful those sun-sets on the beach really are. I think the best loca-tions are the ones whose

beauty you can never really capture.

Who's a photographer you'd like to know more about?

I'm fascinated by Diane Arbus. I love the way she captured people; there always seemed to be such a deep connection between her and her subjects, even when they were complete strangers. I've tried to read as much as I can about her life and it sounded absolutely in-credible. I always want to know more about her.

What's your favorite band?

There's way too many. Put my iPod on shuffle and it'll go from Nine Inch Nails to Kanye West to Yo-yo Ma. The first band I ever really started getting into (listening to all their CD's, knowing the band members, etc.) was Green Day back when I was ten. I guess for that reason Green Day will probably always be my favorite band.

How do you currently

feel about your photog-raphy?

Very frustrated, but deter-mined. I'm not sure that any photographer is ever really satisfied with their work and I'm definitely no exception. However, I feel like I've definitely come a long way since I first picked up that camera a year ago.

What/Who is your big-gest influence?

Anna Szczekutowicz, Ka-lie Garrett and Natalie Kucken were some of the first streams I ever really fell in love with and were the main reasons I started a 365 in the first place. Even though I didn't dis-cover Lauren Withrow's stream until I was about three fourths of the way through my 365, I'd defi-nitely say she's one of my favorite Flickr-ers and is a huge influence to me.

What inspires you most?

So much inspires me, it's not even funny; Jesus, friends, family, commu-nity, cities, nature, foreign countries, and just life in general.

How did you get started in photography?

I was curious about pho-tography in ninth grade because my older brother recently took it on. I took a digital photography class and learned the ba-sic composition skills. My passion grew as I contin-ued to take more pictures and traveled to different places around the world.

What's one of your fa-vorite places to shoot at?

I have lots of favorite plac-es. Each location brings different unique things to capture and recre-ate through a picture. As much as I love shooting where I live (Seattle), I love

to get out of my comfort zone. I guess my answer to this question would be the world, cliché, but true.

If you could shoot anyone for a day, who would it be?

I love shooting friends! We just have a blast to-gether, but I'd be okay with shooting one of my favorite bands, Mumford and Sons.

What are a few of your favorite bands?

I feel like this changes from season to season, but here are a few; Mum-ford and Sons, Delta Spir-it, Foals, Matt and Kim, Radical Face, and Barce-lona.

How long would you say it takes you on average to edit a photo?

1-2 minutes.

If you could meet any-one from the past/pres-ent, who would it be?

Jesus. No question about it. He was a rad person.

If you could accomplish one thing before you die, what would it be?

It would be to truly not care about fame or for-tune, to take my God-giv-en abilities and passions to further the Kingdom of God.

Do you have a favorite photographer?

Page 17: Issue 6

I do not have a favorite. I love shooting with all my photographer friends. We have so much fun just go-ing out and taking pic-tures. They all inspire me.

Who's a photographer that you'd like to know more about?

Ansel Adams.

How did you get started in photography?

I taught myself to take photos, process and print my own work when I was 17 at college. I was in a fine art course but I real-ized it was photography I was passionate about.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by my sur-roundings, the people in my life, old myths and stories and nostalgia.

How do you currently feel about your photog-raphy?

At the moment I feel quite positive about my prog-ress. However, I am think-ing about getting more involved in the art scene as well as fashion because I feel my work sits well on both gallery walls and magazine pages.

What/Who is your big-gest influence?

I don't think I could say any one thing, but I'm defi-nitely very strongly influenced by my close friends and family be-cause I like to docu-ment my life and the important people in it.

Do you have a fa-vorite pho-tographer?

Yes, Nan Goldin who I was fortunate enough to meet in December. It was the most amazing experi-ence of my life.

Do you prefer film over digital?

Definitely film, all the way, but maybe one day I will find a way to achieve similar aesthetics from a digital camera, until then I am a dedicated film junkie.

What's your favorite photo that you've tak-en?

Probably a photo I took for a competition at the University for Elizabeth Arden. That was the first photo I was really proud of and thought, “Yes, this is what I'm about.” The photo is a silhouette of a couple in an embrace in front of a window. The photo holds a lot of emo-tion, it's quite intense.

What music do you en-joy listening to?

I like to listen to a com-plete mixture of music. I

Page 31: Issue 6

like classical, indie, electro, soul and some pop.

If you could go any-where in the world for a week, where to?

Probably Rio because I've always wanted to go there and it's number one on my list when I have enough money!

Who's a photographer you'd like to know more about?

Goodness me, what a question. There are so many talented people out there that I haven't even seen yet. I think there are hundreds I'd like to know more about.

What are some things that you like to do on a lazy day?

I like to wander around flea markets or just lie in bed with my boyfriend watching American TV shows and eating Ben&Jerry's!

Do you have a favorite photo by another artist?

I think it would probably have to be either one of Paolo Roversi's photos or

Nan Goldin's.
