Principal’s Message
From a personal perspective, I am
staggered by the speed with which
the term has flown by. Equally, I am
very grateful to the Governing body,
staff, students and parents alike who
have warmly welcomed me to the
school. The term itself started very
positively for the school, with a
successful Ofsted monitoring visit that
confirms and verifies that the school
is moving in the right trajectory. This
is a real accomplishment and I am
truly proud that our collective efforts
have been recognised externally in
such a manner. Students in Years 11,
12 and 13 have worked tirelessly to
get ready for public examinations and
we are all indebted to the staff that
have given up their time to stay after
school to support with the facilitation
of revision sessions and 1:1 support. I
also thank those staff in advance for
giving up their May half-term to
support students in getting ready for
their exams. The school wishes all the
students sitting a public examination
the very best of luck.
I have met with almost every member
of staff and a large number of
students to review the student care
model employed by the school. A new
model of student care will be
developed and refined in Term 6,
ready for the commencement of the
new academic year. Likewise, a
system of professional development
for all members of staff at all levels is
being developed by both Mr D Wise
and Mr T Wise with me. As we come
to the end of this term, a number of
key appointments to the staffing body
have been made and I am genuinely
excited about the strength and depth
of quality that will be joining TDS
come September. I have also been
enamoured by the students this term,
their warm welcomes and well wishes
have been very humbling. This was
epitomised for me last week by the
sheer grit, determination and
resilience displayed by our Year 8 and
9 Girls’ football team, whose
accomplishments this academic year
have been staggering. Evenings, such
as the Sixth Form Award’s night and
the year 11 study skills talk to parents,
show that the school will always go
the extra mile to ensure that the
students of TDS are supported and
rewarded. Likewise, I have been privy
to WOW time in the primary phase
and the pride that our Year R, 1 and 2
students show for both their work
and the school display to me a strong
sense that the future for TDS is very
positive.
It has been a superb and busy term.
Personally, I am looking forward to
term 6 and continuing to work with
the staff and students of TDS to
continue to further the school.
I wish you all a very pleasant and
restful vacation.

Year 10
Football
The Year 10’s
showed great
confidence and
team morale
going into the
match against
Caroline Chisolm
having
previously
beaten arch
rivals Malcom
Arnold Academy
3 - 1.
Some slight last minute changes
had to be made due to a few first
team injuries.
The team changes showed within
the first 10 minutes as the TDS
chemistry was lacking strength in
the defensive partnerships,
resulting in a sloppy foul handing
CCS a quick penalty. The boys
showed great determination and
used their ability to quickly turn
things around with a fantastic
counter attacking play straight
from KO leading to an equaliser by
Ryan Pamplin. 2-1 down at half
time, no changes were made to
the squad by Manager Mr Martin.
Straight from KO, TDS showed
fantastic and exciting football that
allowed Ryan Pamplin to get the
equaliser handing himself his
second goal of the match. CCS’s
strong and physical team proved
no match for TDS, as all chances of
scoring were stopped by the
defence and midfield. With a few
fatiguing players, several changes
were made to freshen Duston’s
squad.
With five minutes to go, Kieran
Spencer showed fantastic skill
through the midfield; he set
himself up nicely for a long
distance goal, from outside the
area, making the score 3-2 to TDS.
Unfortunately, with seconds to go
CCS caught TDS’s defence off
guard making a last minute
equaliser.
The boys showed a fantastic effort
against CCS making the game
highly enjoyable to for the
spectators and showed a great
depth into the skill of the TDS year
10 squad.
Well done TDS!!

The boys not only competed in
their first set of games at the
school, but also their first
experience of playing 12-a-side as
a school team. The tournament
was set to be an exciting and
challenging event with the boys
due to play Moulton School,
Kingsthorpe College, Malcolm
Arnold, Academy, and NSB—all of
which have played several games
already this year.
The boys started the tournament
eager to play MAA in their first
game. The boys showed a great
effort but were unable to beat a
very strong MAA squad. As the
tournament progressed, the boys
showed great determination and
motivation allowing them to raise
their game and adapt to the new
experience of 12-a-side rugby. The
boys played a fantastic next two
games, beating Moulton 4 - 1 and
Kingsthorpe College 2 - 1, with
tries by Chè Campbell, Fjord
Nickels and Ben Lee. With team
morale high, the team were set to
face their most challenging game
against the highly experienced and
talented NSB team who were
currently unbeaten. The Y7’s
showed great tactical knowledge
and skill allowing them to take the
lead against NSB with a fantastic
solo run by Josh White. TDS were
able to withstand NSB’s repeated
attacks and were able to stop all
attempts of scoring. With seconds
to go and the last play of the game,
NSB found a gap in the defence
and scored allowing a last minute
1 - 1 draw.
The boys ended up in a very
respectable 3rd place and showed
great determination, passion and
motivation in their first taste of
school rugby.
Very well done Y7’s!!!

Having excelled through the qualifying rounds, the team were set to
compete in a variety of track and field events against 14 other schools in
the district.
The team included :
Ezra Mukuka, Ayub Ahmed, Fjord Nickels, Henry Morris, Elijah Burden,
Oskar Knight, Mason White and Kieran Mobbs.
The above boys competed at a high calibre in various track and field
events including: 1 x 1 , 2 x 2, 1 x 2, 4 x 1, 4 x 2 and 6 x 6 relays, obstacle
relay, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, speed
bounce and, finally, the shot put.
Showing great dedication, commitment and skill the boys competed
impressively in a very tough and exciting tournament of 14. Though the
boys showed great levels of skill, the challenge of the tournament was
too high and the team finished in a mid-table position. The TDS sport
hall athletics team are working to improve, showing eagerness to
succeed in future tournaments, and competitors and are ready for the
next challenge.
Well done boys! Go team TDS!

Sixth Form
On Thursday 27th April, we celebrated the achievements of our Sixth
Form students with an awards evening.
We welcomed Mr S Strickland Principal as our guest speaker for the
evening and he presented awards to the students.
Throughout the evening, it was really clear how hard students have
worked this year, and how much they contribute to the school
community, both inside and outside of the classroom.
The evening was also an opportunity to showcase the talent of some of
our musicians, and impressive performances from Abi Johnson and It
was a very successful evening and a wonderful opportunity to reward
our students.

Hay Fever Hay fever is usually worst between late March and September, especially when it’s warm, humid and windy. This is when the pollen count is at its highest. Tips for handling allergies at school: It's important to talk to teachers about your child's special needs due to nasal allergies. You'll help your child do better, academically and socially. Nasal allergies are triggered by pollens from trees and grasses as well as by indoor allergens such as house dust mites, mould and animal dander (dead skin cells). Children with allergies to these substances react by having symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, and other problems. Each year, thousands of children face a struggle to make the grade in their summer exams because of the debilitating effect of hay fever. Around 38% of young people have hay fever - also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis. In Allergy UK surveys of parents, 31% said their child struggled to concentrate, while 22% said the condition made their life a misery.
Water Bottles Don’t forget to make sure your child has a water bottle during the hot weather
and exams to keep hydrated at all times. Water bottles can be filled up in our
water fountains round school during break and lunchtimes.
Community Can we please ask that you speak to your child about respecting our neighbours when traveling to and from the school.
The School site should only be accessed from Berrywood Road main entrance, we have had reports of students climbing fences in recent weeks and this is not acceptable.
We would like to remind students that they should not be using the school facilities after hours or during the weekends.
