World Class Ceilings for a World Class Airport

For more than 80 years, the architecture and design

community has speciied products rom Hunter

Douglas, the world leader in window coverings and a

major manuacturer o architectural products such as

Ceilings, Faades, Sun Control and NBK Terracotta.

Working alongside architects and designers, it has been

our mission to continuously engineer technologically

advanced yet environmentally riendly products or

our end users, the architects and designers, and to

help them do what they love to do, which is to create.

Indeed, Hunter Douglas was ounded on a tradition

o bringing breakthrough and innovative products to

market.

Having supplied architectural products to the previous

two terminals, Hunter Douglas was proud to supply

the ceilings again or Terminal 3 (T3), the latest

extension to Singapores iconic Changi Airport. T3

commenced operations on 9 January 2008.

T3 seeks to iterate and re-deine the Changi

Experience with new interpretations o old paradigms,

making Changi Airport to be the standard bearer

or how a multi-terminal airport can oer a unied

experience, balancing coherence with vitality and

vigour.

T3 has brought Singapore into the new millennium with

distinctive, contemporary design, enjoying newness

and celebrating dierent styles. For this prestigious

project, Hunter Douglas Singapore Pte Ltd supplied

116,700 m2 o ceilings.

Mr. Chua Yew Hor, Managing Director o Hunter

Douglas Singapore Pte Ltd shared, We are glad to

be given the opportunity to participate in this project

and to help create the Changi Experience to welcome

our overseas visitors and returning Singaporeans.

Our products are state-o-the-art engineered. The

act that our products had been installed in Terminal

1, Terminal 2 and now Terminal 3 bear testimonial s to

the quality and reliability o our products. Although

the time schedule or this project was tight, we gave

our very best eort to provide ast turn-around and

we were able to complete the project within the

allotted time schedule.

Build with architects and designers in mind, our ceiling

solutions not only improve a buildings comort level,

they also oer the architects and designers a multitude

o design options.

Mr. Showkat Pasha, who was the Project Director or

Hunter Douglas shared, We worked behind the scenes

with the architect to provide not only an aesthetic

and pleasant look, but also to ensure that the system

is unctional and comply with the local authoritys

requirement, or example, or the smoke ventilation

requirement.

architects to explore designs with a variety o materials

including metal, textiles and wood. Our wide range

reedom to the demanding architect or designer and

ensures that the completed installation not only looks

There were also 29,600 m2 o Acoustic Trays with

Rock Wool encapsulated in black non-woven

tissues installed above the ceiling (which is not

included in the ceiling area) to meet the acoustic

requirements without compromising the smoke

ventilation requirements or the project.

PlankThe planks are available in widths rom 212 up

to 800mm and in lengths rom 600mm up to

4000mm.

Produced on advanced equipment which

includes several levelling stages in the process,

the high quality precision engineered planks

are lat and dimensionally stable. The plank

ceilings are available or both interior and exterior

applications.

The planks are available in electrogalvanised

steel, stainless steel or aluminium.

Sound AbsorptionBlack-aced acoustic pads are available to

achieve acoustic absorption. Also non-woven

acoustic textile is available which is glued inside

the planks automatically during production.

PerorationsAside rom provid ing acoust ic pero rmance

characteristics, planks are oten perorated or a

decorative eect.

Perorations are available with open areas ranging

from8%to50%.Althoughperforationsare

primarily positioned or optimum sound control,

Luxalon ceiling elements can also be perorated

to specic designs, such as an interpretation o

a company's logo.

XL PanelsThe monolithic look o the XL Acoustic Ceiling System t perectly in large open spaces with a high density o

noise like in airports, shopping malls or conerence halls. With excellent sound control properties, XL Acoustic

Ceiling Panels turn loud environments into spaces with a comortable interior ambience.

There are 2 types o XL panels: Honeycomb panel and Corrugated panel, each having its own individual

characteristics.

Honeycomb PanelsIn our honeycomb composite technology, two metal skins sandwich an aluminium honeycomb structure that can

accommodate high pressures and shear orces. The skin and the honeycomb are connected with high quality

adhesives, orming a monolithic mechanical construction.

Advantages:Developed or the aircrat industry, aluminium honeycomb composites are a perect combination o light-weight

components working together to produce extreme strength.

Cell CeilingsStylish and contemporary, a LUXALON Cell

Ceiling creates an open, light and spacious

appearance. Cell ceiling models are available

in a range o modular cell sizes and colours

or exciting ceiling design options.

By creating a visual screen, the ceiling grids

assist in controlling the proportions and

scale o an interior area without placing

restrictions on the actual ceiling height and

space. Aesthetics and unction are brought

together in a versatile combination that allows

considerable design reedom.

Design FlexibilityCell Ceiling systems create a spacious

appearance ideal or interior designs where

open, light constructions are desired. They

make it easy to create dierent modules in

one ceiling and are ideal or very small plenum

depths. Systems are available as sliding, hook-

in, swing-down or tile. Modules vary rom 17

x 17 mm to 200 x 300 mm. A wide range o

colours and nishes are available, and special

colours can be provided upon request.

DurabilityManufacturedfrom0.35,0.4,0.5,or0.6mm

thick prepainted aluminium coil, Cell Ceilings

are nished with a polyester paint to provide

a long, low-maintenance lie. The coating is

stove-enameled in a continuous coilcoating

process to ensure uniorm thickness and

absolute adhesion.

Easy Plenum AccessThe panels can be easily (de)mounted by hand,

allowing or ull interaction with systems and

installation within the plenum.

Wide PanelsHunter Douglas Wide Panel Ceilings

enable the architect to design a closed

ceiling with high perormance aluminium

or steel materials. In order to give

maximum reedom in design there is a

wide choice in panels with sot edges

or a monolithic ceiling appearance or

panels with square edges which results

in a smooth ceiling with a narrow butt

joint.

Design FlexibilityThe robust wide panel appearance

provides interesting possibilities or

spatial room designing. The ceiling

panels show a straight L-joint, neat

V-jointora10mmwiderecessedjoint.

The panels can be installed as Clip-in,

Lay-on, Carrier or C-grid system. The

300 mm wide panels are available up to 6

m length. A range o colours and nishes

is standard available and special colours

upon request.

DurabilityWide panel ceilings are manuactured

rom durable roll ormed aluminium (0.7

mm) or steel (0.6 mm) coil, nished with

a polyester paint to provide a long, low

maintenance lie. The coating is stove

enamelled in a continuous coil coating

process ensuring uniorm coating

thickness and absolute adhesion. For

exterior applications aluminium panels

with Luxacote nish are available.

Easy Plenum AccessThe panels can be easily demounted by

hand allowing easy and ull access to

services and installation in the plenum.

Acoustic PerormanceIn order to improve the acoustic comort

in a room, the ceiling panels can be

perforatedwitha1.5or2mmroundhole.

As a standard eature, perorated panels

can be supplied with a sound absorbing

non woven tissue glued into the panel

or enhanced acoustical perormance.
