Happy Mother’s Day! Kristen Klaben is the winner of this years Annual
Mother’s Day Photo Contest!! Kristen and her husband
Don, son Logan and twin daughter’s Camille and Kayla
live in Camillus. We asked Kristen a few questions
about her experience as a mom of twins and here is
what she had to say:
How did you feel when you found out you were
having multiples?
My husband and I were nervous and excited.
What was your pregnancy like?
Being pregnant with twins was so much more difficult
than a singleton...I had carpel tunnel in both hands, bed
rest at 24 weeks, PUPPS which is one of the worst
things that I have ever experienced, and
preeclampsia. Other than that it was fabulous :)
When did you join Multiple Moms Mingle and how has it
helped you?
I joined the group while pregnant but didn't get that
involved until the girls were 8 months. I cannot begin to tell all of the reasons this group has helped me. I
have made friends for life here. These women have the biggest hearts and are always ready to help.
How long did you carry your babies and what were their weights?
I carried until 37 weeks, preeclampsia really kicked in so I had my c-section a week early. Camille weighed 5
lbs 4 oz and Kayla was 4 lbs 11 oz.
How did you manage those first few months?
I am lucky to have such a great relationship with my in-laws...they stayed with us for 2 months. It was helpful
to have someone cook and clean and help with the kiddos. We wanted to make sure we gave Logan
enough attention and this allowed us to do that. It also helped that Camille and Kayla began sleeping thru
the nights at 2 months.
How did your oldest react to the addition of the twins?
Logan was great and still is he never went through any of the jealous stages that I had heard from others
about. He always wanted to help. I can truly say he is the best BIG brother!
What do you think is the best part of having multiples?
I love watching them grow together, they learn from each other...sometimes good things and other times
naughty things. They are best friends with completely different personalities and interests its so amazing!

Happy Father’s Day to our
MMM Dads!
MULTITUDES, Summer 2013 7
Check this out! A few months ago our member Jill St. John told another member, Danielle Murray, about a
contest being held by Twiniversity.com, an online site for parents of multiples many of us
subscribe. Twiniversity wanted to know about groups who “Do Something Good” for their
members. Daniellle submitted a short article about our group’s Big and Little Sister Program
and our Garage Sale Facebook page and guess what? They loved it; published a portion of
her article in the summer issue of their online magazine, Multiplicity, and also awarded us a
$50 gift card.
Here is the article submitted by Danielle in its entirety. Thanks Danielle for such a great representation
of our awesome group!! http://issuu.com/twiniversity/docs/multiplicity_summer2013_single_/58
Multiple Moms Mingle: from Bigs and Lils to Shopping Thrills!
By Danielle Murray Picture this – it’s a sunny morning, traffic is light and you’ve just had
a yummy breakfast. It’s a good hair day, you’re wearing new ballet flats and
you’re about to walk in to see your OB-GYN. It’s a sonogram day! Love is in
the air. Your name is called, and you waddle in to the tiny room with an
anxious pep in your step. The technician is extra smiley for some reason. As
she turns the monitor toward you, she instantly makes your day EXTRA
happy. She blurts out, “you’re having multiples!” You’re speechless. You’re
crying. You’re laughing. You’re crying again! The nurse walks in, gives you a
huge hug and says she knows a group who can’t wait to talk to you. End
scene.
This scenario is shared by some of the over 180 mothers of multiples in Central New York. They belong
to Multiple Moms Mingle (MMM) – a fantastic group of ladies who span the greater Syracuse, N.Y., area. Since
2006, the club has “doubled” and “tripled” in size (pun intended!). They’ve made it their mission to support, love
and guide families with multiples and more. When the board is first contacted by a new or expectant mother of
multiples, they immediately promote their popular Big Sister/Little Sister program. A new member is paired with an existing member who has multiples older than one year in age. The Big Sister acts as a trusted mentor;
she’s made that multiple registry before, she knows how to arrange two babies in a tub, and she knows how to
soothe three babies who are teething at the same time. She just…gets it!
While MMM is a solid sisterhood, the Bigs and Littles share a bond like no other. Bigs have often visited
their Littles in the hospital, stopped over to help during those first few days home, dropped off items from the
MMM Preemie Closet and have even stayed up late to chat during those oh-so-special midnight feedings. The
club has seen these friendships blossom into something truly unique. These dazzling duos can be seen sitting
side-by-side at MMM’s monthly meetings, traveling to the group’s Zoo outings together and sharing a meal with
their families at the club’s Annual Summer Picnic.
An important piece of advice the Bigs give their Littles is to visit MMM’s Facebook Garage Sale page. It’s a parent’s paradise! Members sell anything from bottles and blankets to pack ‘n plays and playhouses to
each other at rock bottom prices. The Moms really look out for one another by posting tips on which stores have
the best discounts each week, offering coupon swaps and listing which online savings codes have been
released. The steals and deals on this special hub are quite the bargain, and there’s exciting action on the page
from morning ‘til night. And, the shopping doesn’t stop there. MMM proudly hosts two Semi-Annual Babies and
Children’s Clothing, Toys and Equipment Sales where over 25 member families sell their new and/or gently used items to the general public. The group’s love is multiplied when they donate items to local charities after
each event. They’ve stocked several mini-vans to the roof with goodies for families in need.
If your life is about to get a little more “twinteresting” or you’re already sweet on a triple treat, contact Multiple
Moms Mingle at [email protected] or visit www.multiplemomsmingle.com 2day!

BIG SISTERS
Contact: Amanda Fosberg
We offer a "Big Sister" to paid MMM members that
are pregnant and/or are new moms of multiples
during the first 3 months after giving birth. We pair
you up with a member that has multiples like you
have (or will have). The idea is for the big sister to
check in with her little sister often— to offer
support, advice, help, etc. as needed. Then she
reports to the group at each meeting on how her
"little sister" is doing. The little sister can also
contact her big sister as needed. Please contact
Amanda to get hooked up with a "big sister"
today! If your multiples are over a year old and
are interested in becoming a “big sister” contact
Amanda today.
