Parent Helper- Teacher Thank You Morning Tea: December 13 This year we have combined our parent helper thank you morning tea and our teacher thank you morning tea. We extend a warm invitation to all parent helpers to a thank you morning tea during recess, from 10.40am-11.10am, in the SALC on Tuesday 13 December. Your contributions to this wonderful school are greatly appreciated and we wish to show our thanks at a morning tea. Please let your class teacher or the office know if you will be attending. The project has been postponed until 2017 as school council continue to ensure options for the design will best meet the educational needs of the students. Sunscreen Reminder Despite the cooler than average temperatures for this time of the year, the UV index is still very high. With this in mind, we remind students to apply sunscreen in the morning before arriving at school. Sunscreen will also be available in the classroom for reapplying before recess and lunchtime. Chickenpox We have three cases of chickenpox reported amongst our students. The Department of Human Services Communicable Diseases stipulates students with chickenpox are to be excluded from school until fully recovered or for at least five days after the eruption first appears. Please note that some remaining scars are not a reason for continued exclusion.

Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability During tomorrow’s assembly Karen Jones from the Port Phillip Ecocentre, along with a Bayside Councillor, will be presenting certificates to our year 5 and 6 students who participated in this year’s Tomorrow’s Leaders for Sustainability program. These students worked very hard over 2 terms creating a nature trail around our school, and also contributed to the construction of the bat boxes for the micro bats to nest in. We are very proud of their achievements and look forward to celebrating them tomorrow. Bottle Top Collection

Please note we are no longer collecting bottle tops for our mural panel – we have almost 3000 which is plenty. Many thanks to all the families who contributed to our collection, it was a most enthusiastic response. The students will have fun attaching them to the panel over the next 2 weeks. Glee Club The school Glee Club performed beautifully last night at Beaumaris Concourse for the official lighting of the Christmas tree and big celebration for Izzy Newell and Paige Gallagher who organised the collection for “Family Life” and the local traders generously donated $500 for their cause. Well done girls and thanks to all the community for their support.

LEVEL LOW DOWN Foundation

After hours and hours of practising and rehearsing, our special night finally arrived on Tuesday for the 2016 Prep Performance! We were feeling a mixture of emotions from excited to nervous, as we got ready for our first ever performance in front of a large crowd at school. Before we took the stage, we did some voice warm ups, got our rhythm sticks ready and… turned into AMAZING SUPER STARS! We beautifully sang a variety of songs, showed off our best funky dance moves and played some great musical instruments. We dressed up in costumes and pretended to be sea creatures, fire fighters and vegetables growing in the garden. We had so much fun, smiled all night and danced our way out of the hall to meet our proud parents under the shade cloth. Thank you to Mrs Rothberg for all of her hard work in teaching us our songs and dances this year! We loved it! “When I was on the stage I was feeling proud of myself and happy.” Kitty (Prep M) “I was little nervous at the start but when it was finished I was really proud of myself and my mum and dad loved it!” Aiden (Prep M) “I loved the Taba Naba song and I felt great!” Logan (Prep T) “My favourite song was Santa Wear Your Shorts and I spoke about it and it’s still my favourite part!” Millie (Prep T) “I felt very tired but it was fun” Alisa (Prep P) “I was proud of myself because it was my first time going in front of a whole crowd of parents.” Lily (Prep P)

Year One Something amazing is coming to Beaumaris Primary on Monday 19 December! Just a hint: some Year 1s practised their

Christmas carol four times today. (Not because they needed the practice, it’s just that they were so adorable their

teacher couldn’t get enough of them!) We’ve also been consolidating our maths skills doing a very exciting and

appropriately named ‘SMARTIE’ lesson. I bet our gorgeous Preppies wished they were already in Year 1. Lastly, the Year

1 teachers are looking forward to sharing the wonderful growth in skills and knowledge your children have made over

the last year at Parent-Teacher interviews.

Year Two

Congratulations to all our swimmers! Last Friday we had our Swimming Carnival to celebrate the end of our swimming program. We all had a great time and enjoyed having the opportunity to practise the skills we have learnt in our swimming classes. On Wednesday we participated in an incursion from ‘The Travelling Kitchen’.

Michael and Jen taught us how to cook ‘Vegesauraus Rolls’ and about the

importance of making healthy food choices. They said that if you get creative, have

fun and try new things, cooking can be a great adventure.

Year Three This week in Year 3 we have continued to expand our knowledge of health through a range of experiences, including the Healthy Humans Incursion. This was a fun interactive workshop that taught us about portion size, vitamins and minerals and how food influences our body systems. Best of all it was taught in a fun, interactive way! We took part in a quiz where we had to match quantities of sugar to popular breakfasts. Our presenter Luke recommended a bowl of porridge containing fresh fruit and nuts in the morning. We also had the opportunity to taste some foods and found out what a yummy afternoon snack dried chickpeas can make. We have had so much fun learning about health so far!

Year Four The Year 4s are busily preparing for their Village Market Expo to be held next week. Some of them are really enjoying the opportunity to work with a partner. Our Village Market Expo is on Friday the 9th of December from 2:45pm – 3:45pm in the Year 4 learning space and Kitchen Garden Area. We look forward to seeing you. Don’t forget to bring along your change to purchase some of their beautiful creations. Next week Bike Ed starts. All students are required to bring their bike and helmet to school on Monday. Many thanks to the parents who have volunteered their time to help. If needed, the students will be able to leave their bike at school overnight for the week. PLEASE make sure your child’s helmet is fitted properly in preparation and also ensure that the signed bike/helmet checklist has been returned.

Year Five Bike Ed is in full swing with students having a ‘wheelie’ good time! We started by reviewing a range of skills taught in Year 4 Bike Ed and quickly moved on to teach the necessary knowledge and skills to manage safe riding on the road. Using simulated intersections, students safely practised their skills in the school yard before going out on the road in small groups. Our route required students to ride out of a driveway onto the road, ride one metre from the gutter, scan behind to check for vehicles before moving around parked cars, signal, turn left, negotiate right and left turns at a roundabout, perform a hook turn and ride straight through an intersection when safe. The students listened to instructions, watched as the teachers modelled and focused to demonstrate safe riding. Many members of the public strolling and driving by stopped to congratulate the staff and students, recognising the importance of providing traffic and bike safety education. The students will be assessed on Friday and we look forward to celebrating all of their new skills next Tuesday on our annual Bike Hike.

Year Six This week, the media captains are going on the radio from 8:00 to 9:00am. Tune in, to 88.3 on Thursday to hear us. We will be playing charting songs and announcing items happening around our school, and the Beaumaris community. This is the last week to complete our ERP projects. Our Year 6 expo is on Monday the 5th of November. The Year 6 Graduation is fast approaching and we are organising our speeches, memory books and songs for the night. Just a reminder to get on your bikes, so you are all set for the Year 6 bike ride. Congratulations to Meka Barone is fortunate to be going to States for sprints. We had some questions for Meka. How did you get into States for sprinting? I won three of the following events The 4 by 100, the 4 by 200 and the medley relay. Are you nervous? Not really! When is States? On the 17th of December. Is anyone else from your club going? Yes, eight.
