The new school in Westport which was installed with a 2,300m² Bauder Thermofol roof has been recognised at this year’s Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) award ceremony. The RIAI aims to recognise the quality of work carried out by RIAI members and highlight the contribution of Irish architects to the society. Scoil Phadraig under the project name of ‘New School in Town’ was nominated in the Public Choice Award for the best building in Ireland for which it was voted 2nd and was awarded Best Educational Building.

The architectural team from Simon J Kelly and Partners was led by Dermot McCabe and Elaine Naughton, who have previously completed the award winning Oughterard National School project in 2014, which also featured a Bauder Thermofol roof. Their strikingly modern and light filled design with 16 classrooms, a general-purpose room and ancillary accommodation provides all the features needed to enhance the children’s learning and to allow the teachers to set high standards of education.

Another eye-catching aspect of the building is its 2,300m² roof. The Bauder Thermofol PVC system, which was installed by approved contractors Priority Roofing & Cladding Ltd, provides an aesthetical finish to the building in addition to a strong waterproofing system, resistant to the Irish climate. Following a final inspection, Bauder were able to provide a 20-year guarantee for the entire roof.

The best in genuine authentic Spare Parts

As part of our BCR Recommends section, we would like to warmly recommend UK Spares as one of the most trusted and reliable suppliers of genuine manufacturers spare parts.

UK Spares has over twenty years of experience in the distribution of spare parts, renowned for their wide range of authentic spare parts for use in a range of different industries. The company was first established back in 1993 and is based in Bristol. From here, they distribute spare parts both nationally and globally for primarily electric water and space heating, but also for other domestic and commercial white goods, ventilation and garden equipment.

Often times, we reach for cheap alternatives for the spare parts we need. They can be cheap and look and feel close enough to the real thing. However using spurious alternatives can inevitably lead to the breakdown of the appliance, as the fake part will not integrate as well as the genuine part, and will be made of a lesser quality material. In the worst-case scenario, this can cause serious damage to the appliance, environment and user.

Instead, genuine, authentic manufacturers spare parts should always be used as this will guarantee proper function and integration with the appliance. UK Spares provides parts for everything from dryers, to fans, thermostats, water heaters, vacuums, boilers, fan heaters, cooking appliances, fridges and freezers, ventilation, showers and much more. Better yet, UK Spares are constantly adding to their stock, and have recently added a wide range of new bath, shower, utility and kitchen related spares.

On top of that, they are always updating their list of manufacturers whose spare parts they can supply. Their current list of manufacturers is highly extensive and includes such names as Beko, Bosch, Dimplex, Electrolux, Heatrae Sadia, Hotpoint, Instanta, Triton, Whirlpool and Zip just to name a few.

T +44 (0)1454 [email protected]

UK Spares has 25 years of expertise in distributing genuine manufacturers spare parts to the electrical trade. We are of the prime suppliers of spares within our main area of expertise which is electric water heating and electric space heating. We are part of UK Electric Ltd and have a range of sister companies involved in a diverse range of activities associated with electrical, electronic, mechanical, lighting and controls.

We are always happy to try and assist with

unusual requests for spare parts that you are unable to find elsewhere.

With replacement part prices starting from just a couple of pounds, UK Spares stocks a range of genuine spare parts from brands such as Creda, Dimplex, Instanta, Whirlpool and Zip. UK Spares removes the need to replace a complete unit for the sake of a lost control knob, faulty element or broken tap handle.

We use the latest data specs, up-to-date

information and extensive product knowledge teamed with our years of knowledge and expertise in order to identify the correct spare part for each individual request.

With over 2,000 product lines in stock and thousands of others available to order UK Spares can quickly source even the most obscure spares from its extensive network of suppliers.

For this issue, we are excited to recommend Superglass for all your insulation needs.

Superglass is one of the leading suppliers of innovative and reliable insulation services, providing industry-leading thermal, acoustic and fire insulation. Founded in Stirling, Scotland, in 1987, the company focuses on the insulation industry, being the first company in the industry to introduce the Multi-Roll in the 90’s. In 2005, Superglass became the UK’s biggest independent manufacturer of glass mineral wool insulation and in the last year alone, they have successfully bought a new corporation and have been continuously increasing their vast range of glass and insulation materials.

Today, Superglass is one of the most well-known manufacturers of market glass wool insulation. They produce this from 84% recycled glass, a feat which reduces waste disposal and saves on valuable resources. Superglass products can be used in everything from walls to roofs to floors and caravans or park homes. Better yet, they are simple and easy to install.

The glass mineral wool is made through a highly complex and delicate process, whereby recycled glass is heated to extremely high temperatures. The glass is then spun, with silicon added to it to form a flexible fibrous mat that can be turned into the final end products. The glass mineral wool also restricts noise transfer, improving the acoustic performance of the walls.

As one of the leading and most robust insulation companies in the UK, Superglass has not onlu weathered the current economic situation, but those market conditions have allowed the company to change strategy to add value as a supplier, as architectural and customer demands have only risen higher. Superglass focuses on the needs of

their customers and clients by forming a close bond, always ensuring service and satisfaction are their top priority, even offering additional technical support and advice on how best to install the insulation and optimise its effects. The highly skilled and efficient team at Superglass can offer you impressive product quality and consistency, together with a range of products and innovations to meet ever-changing regulations and environmental pressures. The team are agile and highly responsive too – when you deal with Superglass, you’ll be in direct contact with decision makers – who like you, are keen to provide the right solutions for your business.

Superglass’ insulation material can be easily cut if need be, and the perforation means there is less cutting needed which reduces waste and saves time for both the installer and the client.

Superglass has earned an enviable position in the insulation sector as one of the leading providers and first choice for first-rate products, customer service and support. Their free and highly responsive specification service is another of their notable facilities, which provides accurate and detailed U-Value calculations and Dew Point analysis. So if you’re after the market’s most sought-after and sophisticated insulation solutions, then look no further than Superglass. You can tell a Rapierstar screw because each one has a unique ‘Tri-thread’ hallmark stamped on its head. This is the real mark of performance and quality but is not the only assurance you get with a Rapierstar product.

Celebrating 25 years of design, development and supply of specialist fasteners and fixings, 75% of screws now used in fenestration in the UK and Ireland are Rapierstar products.

This is because, over the last quarter century, Rapierstar’s primary objective has been to support its customers with quality of service and products that allows its customers to carry out their projects with minimum of fuss.

Rapierstar’s family of award-winning screws and fasteners include Starpvcu window screws, Starfix direct masonry fixings and Starturn universal wood screws, which also carry CE Marking with full Declarations of Performance and go beyond UK and European quality and performance standards.

There is a huge advantage in using a credible supplier like Rapierstar. Not only do they supply products with all of the necessary

accreditations and proof, Rapierstar is also fully knowledgeable in all of the requirements of new and existing quality and security regulations.

If you have previously bought fasteners and fixings primarily on price, you may need to review your supply arrangements and ensure a reliable supply of correctly tested and approved components, or risk having a product that doesn’t meet the standard.

UK Construction Week

As part of this issue, Building and Construction Review is delighted to reward Wild Hart, formerly known as Classic Pod Company, with our Commitment to Excellence Award in light of their outstanding outdoors pods, green play spaces and superb gardens.

The Classic Pod Company was first founded back in 2016 by Nick Sneller, who boasts over 25 years of experience in Woodworking, cabin design and production. With a passion for not just the beauty of nature but its benefits too, Nick set up Classic Pod Company to provide handmade pods that would allow users to enjoy the outdoors and get back to nature.

After proving highly successful, Classic Pod Company was rebranded to Wild Hart in order to reflect the growth of the business, and the inclusion of gardens and green spaces to their services. Today, Wild Hart specialises in producing everything from playgrounds to play spaces, bespoke furniture, specialist gardens and their outstanding pods of course.

Wild Hart’s playgrounds emphasise the need for natural play, combating the lack of green spaces available for children across the UK with play spaces that incorporate nature and greenery. Stimulating, safe and fun for children, the playgrounds have been popular with schools, local councils, leisure parks, camp sites and much more. Where Wild Hart really shines though is in their exceptionally clever Pods, which are perfect for those looking to go camping, glamping, or just enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of a pod. The pods are eco-friendly, insulated, feature double glazing and a 12v lighting system, and above all provide users with the perfect relaxing escape. We spoke to Nick about what we can expect from Wild Hart next, to which he explained, “We have just launched our highly innovative Octa-Pod which is named for its 8 sided structure. Because the Octa-pod is modular, it is extremely customisable, with users able to build the pod the exact way they want.” With a kitchenette, space for a double bed and bathroom, the Octa-pod is revolutionising the way we experience nature, bringing all the creature comforts of a home to the great outdoors.

Wild Hart also design therapeutic and beautiful gardens, with their Wild Play Garden winning a number of awards, including the Gold Award, Best Show Garden and People’s Choice Award at the RHS Show. The hand-crafted Wild Play Garden is a 17m by 35m garden, designed with Nature therapy in mind, and purpose built for a school for autism. In the same vein, Wild Hart have also built sensory gardens with plenty of plants, foliage and flowers, especially for care

homes. These gardens exude full, blooming scents, rich colours and hues, and a number of different textures to awaken the senses.

If you would like to find out more about Wild Hart, be sure to ring or email Nick using the details

Wild Hart: Transforming the way we experience the outdoorsCommitment to Excellence

Later this year, as part of UK Construction Week, The Build Show will be returning to Birmingham’s NEC arena on the 9th-11th October 2018. The Build Show offers the perfect platform for suppliers and contractors to come together for three days of networking, presentation and exhibition.

Amongst the show’s exhibitors, Superglass will be showcasing their vast range of insulation services. Superglass are proud to be one of the UK’s leading suppliers of eco-friendly insulation, delivering insulation solutions that save energy and reduce waste, through their use of recycled glass that could otherwise go to landfill.

The company was established in Stirling, Scotland, where it still produces its renowned

acoustic, thermal and fire insulation products. Since its formation in 1987, the company has grown from strength to strength and since 2005 has become Britain’s biggest independent manufacturer of glass mineral wool insulation.

Superglass’s outstanding Glass Mineral Wool Insulation, is exceptionally light and easy to install, boasting both thermal and acoustic insulation that is A+ BRE Green Guide rated. It is important to note that the company’s Glass Mineral Wool insulation is non-combustible, receiving a Reaction to Fire A1 (non-combustible) when tested against the UK’s highest possible rating, BS EN 13501-1.

Interestingly, Glass Mineral Wool is produced from recycled glass that is heated and spun with added silicon, to form a rubbery mat that can be transformed into Superglass’s Glass Mineral Wool. Because the wool is thermal, it not only minimises heat transfer from the building, but also reduces heat entry during the summer months, lowering energy consumption which ultimately reduces costs and environmental impact.

Analysis shows that roofs are the main source of heat loss, so insulation in roofs is particularly important to reduce home-running costs. To combat this, Superglass is proud to provide loft

insulation rolls that increase thermal efficiency. The company’s Superglass Handy Pack 44 is lightweight and easily cut, giving the wool the ability to fit into any space. Moreover, for metal clad roofs, the wool can be inserted between

metal profiles to create a barrier that reduces noise transfer and heat loss.

It is clear to see why so many clients flock to Superglass for their world-class insulation services. If you would like to visit them at the Build Show in October, they will be situated at stand B76, however if you would like to get in touch with Superglass, call them on the number listed below. Alternatively, if you would like to view an extensive range of their services, feel free to visit their website.

Building & Construction Review are proud to present the Bulmer Brick & Tile Company with our prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The company are renowned for being one of the top choices by UK clients for all aspects of brickmaking, and as such we felt they more than deserving of one of our top Awards.

Bulmer Brick & Tile is a small family brickmaking business, operating on a site that has been making bricks since as far back as the Middle Ages. The company has been digging top quality London clay from their seams since the Tudor times, and have since perfected every aspect of the process.

Bulmer works with many different types of clients, and specialise in large scale projects for historical sites such as the National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces. They even supplied the striking brick arches for the award

winning refurbishment at St Pancras Station. In addition to these high profile clients, Bulmer also work with individuals and private clients, guaranteeing the same first rate service for all clients.

All of Bulmer’s bricks are meticulously handmade using traditional making and drying techniques. The bricks are then placed into a coal fired down draught kiln which takes 3 days to fire. There are many advantages to using a downdraft kiln, with the high fuel efficiency a particular drawing point. Many historic buildings have their own unique brick size and shapes, meaning most facing bricks are made bespoke to the building in question. In addition to fuel efficiency, Bulmer’s brick making process ensures the bricks come out with a distinctive finish that will blend with the rest of the building.

Bulmer always keep a stock of their standard sizes, but most historic buildings have a character of their own, which can only be preserved by providing the correct size brick in the right range of colours that will successfully blend with the original. Therefore, the company work closely with builders, architects and surveyors where

possible, to ensure that the bricks they produce are right for the building and meet their clients’ requirements.

At Bulmer, they manufacture a large number of different products with different varieties. As well as producing purpose made chimney bricks, terracotta for garden use, mullions, jambs, floor bricks, pamments, decorative plaques, garden edgings and many different rubbing blocks, they also manufacture facings and specials of almost any texture. The vast assortment includes coarse veined and smooth, boasting 150 different sizes and over 5,000 different shapes, including plinths, squints and copings.

Bricks can be cut into plinths, squints or more according to client needs from Bulmer’s own purpose built brick cutting workshop, where clients can even bring their own bricks for cutting and bonding.

Additionally, the company are able to make and supply many other extensive brick and tile designs. For instance, they

are stockists of Singleton Birch Natural Hydraulic Limes and Lime Putty. Their Hydraulic lime is available in NHL2, NHL3.5 and NHL5 strengths, and is supplied in 25kg bags or in bulk tonne bags. Lime putty is also available in 24kg (30l) tubs. Not only that, but Bulmer also stock specially-made fine lime putty for pointing fully fine gauged arch work.

One of Bulmer’s specialisms is that they can recreate beautiful Victorian or Tudor chimneys from samples or drawings alone, having also repaired and reproduced chimneys at historic sites such as Hampton Court, Helmingham Hall, Oxborough Hall and St Osyth Priory.

Many of England’s historic churches, cottages, dairies, and hallways boasted a beautiful pink hued clay brick floor, made typically from Suffolk Floor Bricks. Unfortunately these are no longer in production.

Thankfully Bulmer are able to use their expert skill to reproduce this unique and stylish flooring. As opposed to the usual imported floor tiles, which are often thin and easily worn, Bulmer’s handmade clay flooring is made with a ‘double struck’ finish for a smooth surface and pink shade.

Offering a range of services, Bulmer are also highly recommended consultants, offering consultancy services on anything brick related. They can also carry out site assessments, brick surveys and write reports to Conservation Officers, English Heritage, Local Councils and other entities.

The company are also committed to providing an outstanding service to their

clients; the Bulmer Brick and Tile Company Ltd go to great lengths to ensure that no matter the application, each client is getting the most out of their brick solution. From the preliminary selection through to quotation and commissioning, you are guaranteed a committed, proficient, safe, secure and personal support service.

If you would like to get in touch with the team at Bulmer Brick and Tile Company, contact them on the number listed below. OVVO® was first established in 2014 by Brendan and Sean Phillips. Based in Dundalk, Ireland, the company specialises in furniture components and hardware. One of the company’s first and highly sought-after products was the OVVO® Connection System which is manufactured in Dundalk, Ireland.

It is a unique and patented solution that allows two pieces of materials to join together without using any additional tools, glue or screws. It is a transparent solution that delivers a tightly held bond between the two materials that are being joined together.

The company have recently launched the new OVVO® Connection System V-1230; the product works best with high-grade chipboard with thicknesses of 15mm, 16mm & 18mm and above, and is also compatible with leading high-end materials, such as high-pressure laminates, composite material and solid woods.

The design of the OVVO® Connection System V-0930 is retained in the new OVVO®

Connection System V-1230, but has a faster intrinsic tolerance, leading to enhanced shear and tensile strength of the bond created. This new product has features such as a solid central rib which assists with increased joint firmness. Automatic insertion is possible with this model, which is a substantial improvement from the first design of the OVVO® Connection System V-1240.

We asked Brendan Phillips, the Managing Director, about the OVVO® Connection System V-1230 to which he responded, “The industry has been excited by OVVO® since the original 1240 connector launched; we have identified significant demand for a product that will work effectively in chipboard and proudly present the V-1230.

We are truly excited to extend the award-winning V-range and bring the bigger connector to market that widens the range and scale of applications to which OVVO® can bring a unique set of design possibilities and production efficiencies.”

OVVO® has worked closely with partners to make sure the connector is compatible with other industrial equipment that has already reached and exceeded regulations. These partners are leaders in CNC equipment suppliers and software vendors, which has easily allowed the implementation of fully integrated manufacturing processes. Each connection has its own bespoke OVVO® cutter which is for CNC compatibility and

all connections are designed to work with the OVVO® hand tool AB181 which was developed with Virutex.

The company pride themselves in saying they have been awarded many prestigious awards, including The Irish Times Innovation Award in the manufacturing category in 2014, the MTP Gold Medal at Drema International Fair in 2016 and an Interzum Best of Best Award in 2017, not to mention OVVO® also won the Best Early

Stage Company (Leinster-Connaught section) of the 2016 InterTrade Ireland Seedcorn Investor Readiness competition. For further information or general enquiries, visit the OVVO® website. Alternatively, you can contact the company via telephone or email.

Keeping cool under fireIt was the end of a typical day for Paul Roberts, security officer at a large building in Cambridgeshire, where he is part of the team from TC Security Services who provide manned guarding services.

The building is a new complex that is nearing completion and will become home to the 3-4,000 staff who are currently located in a number of buildings. Paul was waiting to handover to the officer who was coming on duty at 6pm. They were running a little late so Paul had agreed to stay on until they arrived.

While he was waiting, one of the team working on the construction

came rushing to the reception desk to alert Paul that there was a fire in the building. The fire department were called to attend.

Paul’s quick thinking led to him contacting the officer who was coming on duty, asking them to block off the building to prevent anyone entering it. Paul and a construction worker worked together to clear the building floor by floor pointing the 30 or so people on site at that time to safety.

The CEO of TC Facilities Management, Tony Reed recently visited Paul to express his thanks on behalf of TC Security Services for his sterling efforts.

TC Security Services awarded 100% Achilles AuditThe inaugural intake of service leavers and veterans

to graduate from the Forces Media Academy were congratulated by His Royal Highness The Duke of York at a graduation ceremony earlier this month. The event took place in west London where security is provided by a team from TC Security Services.

The Forces Media Academy offers service veterans the opportunity to study for a Higher National Certificate qualification in Creative Media Production, to gain access to an industry where historically people with a military background have been under-represented.

The Services Sound & Vision Corporation (SSVC), of which HRH has been Patron since 2003, established the Academy last year at its headquarters in Buckinghamshire, which was opened by the Duke in October 2017.

Satia Rai, Senior Operations Manager who leads the team from TC Security Services said, “It was a great privilege for our team to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of York along with the graduates and many guests who had gathered at the venue to celebrate their graduation from this programme.”

Satia was particularly pleased to learn of the positive feedback from one of the key organisers Howard Lambert, Audit Manager at SSVC.

Howard said, “The only feedback I can offer up was positive! Everything went like clockwork and we were all extremely happy with the day. Many thanks to you and your team for your support during the day. It was greatly appreciated and contributed to the smoothness of the day.”

TC Security Services, part of TC Facilities Management (TCFM), have not only been placed in the top 2% of all SIA listed companies within the Approved Contractor Scheme in the UK, they have also passed the ISO 9001 and 14001 management systems audits which come in to force next month.

The 4-day visit by both auditors involved full scrutiny of the TC Security Services operation and for the ACS audit included visiting both the Head Quarters and satellite offices along with a mix of varied customers.

The maximum overall score on the ACS audit that can be achieved is currently 175 points. TC Security Services’ score of 164 places them not only in the top 2% of all SIA listed companies within the Approved Contractor Scheme, it also showed an increase in the score awarded by the auditors in 2017. All this shows TC Security Services as one of the very best security companies in the entire country.

Coupled with this was passing the ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 management systems audits. This was the fourth time these new quality standards, coming in to effect on September 14th, 2018 have been

audited and passed each time.

Both achievements mean that potential and existing customers have the confidence that not only has our service been independently assessed against recognised standards and procedures, it also offers added peace of mind that all the security personnel have been correctly trained for the role they are performing and our quality and management systems meet these ISO standards.

Richard Grafham, Group Compliance Manager for TC Security Services said, “The auditors were particularly impressed with the TC Security Services’ training Matrix and the new portal for its people. They also commented on how our commitment to the audit process is amazing year on year.”

In response to the audits, David Tilley, Director of TC Security Services said, “Our clients obviously benefit from partnering with an organisation that not only have embraced and are performing to these new ISO standards, they also can have the confidence that we operate consistently against so many pillars ofindustry best practice. I am immensely

proud of this result which confirms our commitment to delivering the very best in the industry to our clients through our great security officers.”

Tony Reed, CEO of TC Facilities Management added, “These excellent audit results by TC Security Services is testament to our ongoing commitment to provide the very best service to its clients needing to manage a whole range of risks.”

The auditor was particularly impressed by: s The design and navigation of the training matrix in use s The use of the site visit report which is now exclusively recorded electronically to assess staff well-being and that on-site processes are adhered to

s Our down-to-earth approach, doing what we say we

do in a straightforward and uncomplicated way s Our implementation of Project Griffin principles which demonstrate our awareness of overall security and well-being of the client’s staff.

Denso selected for RHS Garden WisleyAs part of refurbishment works at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden at Wisley in Surrey, Winn & Coales (Denso) Ltd has supplied Densoseal 16A™ for the prevention of water ingress via cable entry ducts in the switch room and power stations on site.

A self-supporting, non-setting mastic, Densoseal 16A™ was developed for the sealing of cable ducts, conduits and service entry pipes or sleeves from the ingress of water and gas. The firm,

fibrous mastic creates a flexible seal around electrical supply cables and is particularly suitable for ducts that are wet or liable to water entry. Compliant with British Telecom Specification M212C, it can also be used for the profiling of mechanical joints on hot pipes to permit the application of tapes.

The flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society covers 76-hectares (240 acres) and the three new power stations and renovated switch

room are part of a program of investments taking place at the site in the coming years. Donated to the RHS in 1903, the site has evolved from its woodland beginnings into the cultivated gardens in place today, with further updates to the landscaping taking place as part of the planned renovation works.

The company specialise in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of sewage treatment systems – which can be bespoke designed – the construction and development of boreholes and soakaways as well as the installation and maintenance of open loop ground source heat pump systems.

Customer service is at the forefront of the company which is why they provide on-hand advice and support on dealing with the Environment Agency, applying for the Renewable Heat Incentive and information on all services available. Consequently, the company have received great recognition at the National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Awards and achieved RHI Installer of the year for the South East and East of England regions in 2015 and 2016. They have gone on to be awarded High Commendations in RHI Installer and Small Scale Project of the Year categories in 2017 at the Energy Efficiency and Health Homes Awards.

One of the products H.D. Services Ltd manufacture and supply is the Open-Loop heat pump installations, to which we asked Rebecca what the benefits of an open-loop heat pump were, her response was, “We strongly believe that the Open-Loop ground source heat pump systems we design and install are not only the most efficient way to heat your home in the South-East but that our cable-tool percussion drilled boreholes, from which the heat source is abstracted, are also kinder to the aquifers than the rotary drilled boreholes associated with closed-loop systems.”

The Hauraton RECYFIX® GREEN STANDARD surface reinforcement grid system was used extensively in the grassed pathways, where a high footfall was expected, and the grassed areas surrounding Banovallum School, Horncastle. The system helped to prevent erosion and improve surface drainage. Once installed, the RECYFIX® GREEN modules were discreet, yet provided a permanent surface reinforcement to the grassed areas with a loading capacity of 200 tonne/m².

Manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene (PP), two sizes of module were installed; size 1 - 387 x 344 x 38mm at 0.7 kg and size 2 - 387 x 555 x 38mm at 1.2kg. The modules were simply held in position with 250mm ABS pegs.

The pathways and area to be grassed were excavated, covered with a granular sub-base, a layer of sharp sand applied and then rolled. The RECYFIX® GREEN modules were then secured on top of the rolled surface and their apertures filled with top soil which was compacted then grass seeded. The grass was left to grow over several weeks

before access was allowed.

Colin Taff, Hauraton‘s Project Engineer comments “The RECYFIX® GREEN modules can also be specified for grassed areas with occasional vehicular usage such as car parking spaces also bridleways, roof terraces, urban green spaces, around trees and lawns. They can also be used in sports grounds, golf course pathways, camping

places, holiday parks and reinforcements for rail and road embankments and river banks.

Drainage engineers at Lanes Group have beaten the tides to look deep into the sewer system of one of the UK’s most picturesque heritage lighthouses. The team from Lanes’ Newcastle depot was

commissioned to clean and survey the drains and sewers underneath the 119-year-old St Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear.

The work was part of a wider scheme to upgrade and safeguard the Grade II-listed landmark, and enhance its role as an important tourist and educational centre.

A Lanes jet vac tanker and a mainline CCTV survey unit were deployed to carry out the work, with one key condition always in mind, the drainage engineers involved had to keep an eye on the tides.

The Lanes drainage engineers used a push-rod CCTV drainage survey system to capture HD-quality video footage inside the pipe network, revealing the system’s structure and any faults.

North Tyneside Council, which owns the site, has been given £164,300 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for structural and ecological surveys of the site, and to develop a conservation plan.

The council plans to bid for a further £2.1m from the fund to enhance the site. This will include changing the internal layout of the keepers’ cottages, now a visitor centre, to improve toilet facilities, and to install a lift to improve disability access.

As the population increases and industrial growth surges to keep up, pressure is mounting on the world to supply safe drinking water. With new government legislations being enforced in countries around the world, pressure is being placed on water companies, businesses and the social sectors to ensure that their methods of water decontamination have minimal impact on the environment.

This pressure is being met by Danish Clean Water, one of Europe’s leaders in providing disinfection systems that are free from harmful and toxic chemicals, making them perfect for the environment whilst providing perfectly clean, disease-free water to the populous.

Established in 2008, and with their head office located in Sønderborg, Denmark, Danish Clean Water specialises in developing, manufacturing and providing advanced disinfection units to clients throughout Europe. Over the years their client base, including hospitals, hotels, schools, commercial buildings and housing association, has expanded thanks to their renowned energy-saving hot and cold water systems.

Legionella, which causes Legionnaires’ disease, has always been difficult and extremely expensive to combat as the bacteria is protected by build ups of a slime named biofilm that occurs within water pipes. This biofilm is resistant to strong bases and acids, and even to extremes of temperature. It is because of this that older methods of combating Legionnaires was often too expensive, time-consuming and requiring of toxic chemicals that environmentally harmful.

Danish Clean Water’s DCW units produce a disinfectant liquid called NEUTHOX®, containing Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which over a short space of time will break down the protective biofilm and kill the Legionnaires causing bacteria to well below detectable levels. As HOCl is so effective, it successfully eliminates the threat of the bacteria and all known bacterial threats.

Lars Bendixen, Sales & Marketing Director at Danish Clean Water said during an interview.

“Not only does our NEUTHOX® technology eliminate legionella below the limit of detection, but it also prevents biofilm from forming inside water piping systems. As a biocide, it is also environmentally friendly, and after the NEUTHOX® has degraded, all that is left behind is water and salt. NEUTHOX® can also be safely handed by employees. Not only that, but our solution also significantly lowers the temperature of the flow water, leading to huge

energy and cost savings. Our DCW units have 1/10th the running costs of traditional water systems, and they are on average 80-90% less expensive to run thanks to the energy usage reduction.”

Having enjoyed incredible successes throughout Europe, Danish Clean Water plan to bring the benefits of their DCW units and NEUTHOX® to more territories, with impressive expansion and growth planned in 2018. Although they already have a partner here in the UK, they plan on setting up their own facility in Manchester from which they can more

easily bring their water disinfection systems to the UK market.

New distributorship for Cinderella Eco Solution

LeeSan has become the Sole distributor for Cinderella Eco Solution incinerating toilets.

4 different toilets will be available very soon running on Propane Gas or 240V.

Cinderella Motion represents an entirely new concept for waste handling in Off-the-Grid locations, Marine craft, mobile homes and recreational vehicles. It is now possible to get rid of toilet waste in a hygienic and simple manner. The end product is just clean ash. The toilet may be used around 70 times before emptying is required. Cinderella Motion is a further development of the popular Cinderella incineration toilet currently installed by over 60,000 users worldwide.

An incineration toilet is a toilet in which waste products, urine and excrement, are incinerated at a high temperature, leaving only an insignificant amount of ash.

Available around the world for decades, incineration toilets are a commonly used alternative in mountain cabins, remote areas, tiny homes, off-grid structures and other residential and commercial applications without easy access to public utilities. Since incineration toilets do not require the installation of a water supply or costly septic systems, and do not demand ongoing and messy work to process waste, their slightly higher unit price is heavily offset by lower maintenance over time, providing a substantially lower total cost of ownership than other solutions, both in terms of money and headache.

Tenmat: UK leaders in Passive Fire Protection

The Tenmat name first came about in the 80s, but the factory site in Manchester has been operating since 1914. Tenmat manufacture a huge range of advanced and safety critical composite components that are used within a wide range of global applications found within rail, marine,

automotive, high temperature as well as the fire protection and construction industries.

We spoke to Business Manager Chris Thompson about what Tenmat can offer, to which he explained, “At Tenmat, we specialise in manufacturing advanced materials and components that provide industry leading performance to many of the most safety critical industrial applications. Our materials and components can be used in everything from the automotive to the marine sector, engineering, renewables, rail and more, though our main area of expertise is in fire protection.”

One of Tenmat’s most highly sought after solutions are included in their passive fire protection range. These specially designed intumescent materials can be installed within doors, windows, walls, ceilings and floors in order to limit the passage of fire and smoke, effectively containing a fire to one room or fire compartment. They work by expanding rapidly in the presence of high temperatures, sealing off any potential route for fire to spread. All of Tenmat’s fire protection products are third party tested and in-house quality checked.

After recent testing, it was confirmed that Tenmat’s intumescent materials are also Low Smoke and Zero Halogen. This means that when in a fire, the materials will give off significantly less smoke than other competitive materials, and as they are Zero Halogen, they will not emit toxic halogen gases.

Not only that, but Tenmat can also provide firestopping solutions for electrical and ventilation penetrations fitted within Metal Web Joist Floor Systems that have recently been fire tested too. Chris added, “Our innovative range of fire protection solutions ensure that any holes made into the ceiling to install downlights, air valves or ceiling fans are suitably firestopped to prevent the fire from entering the floor cavity and spreading from one floor of the building to the next. This, we believe, is an industry first in the UK for providing specifically tested firestop solutions for use within Metal Web Joist Floor Systems.”

Going into the future, Tenmat have doubled their fire testing budget and as such will be investing further into existing and new fire protection solutions. If you would like to take advantage of Tenmat’s many components and materials, don’t hesitate to get in contact today. A self-extinguishing FR material, FlameOut is available in two roll sizes, 1.5 by 50m and 3.0 by 50m, providing installation advantages for builders. It will be particularly valuable for use in safety critical buildings, both residential and commercial.

Other Powerlon building membranes produced by ITP, with ISO EN 9001 Quality Assurance, include universal breather membranes for roofs and walls, air and vapour control layers and innovative UV resistant façade membranes. Powerlon FR UV façade membranes have been specified in a number of RIBA award-winning buildings, including The Word National Centre for the Written Word in South Shields, the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, and the Canada Water Public Library in London.

The PowerCap® Infinity® is the very latest in Powered Air Purifying Respiratory technology offering 4 in 1 fully integrated protection to the head, eye/face, hearing and respiratory protection in one intuitive lightweight head mounted unit.

The PowerCap® Infinity® has been designed by JSP’s research and development team who were inspired by feedback received from people about the compatibility issue of having to wear respiratory, head, eye and hearing protection but also the weight, heat and restriction of movement when wearing a waist mounted PAPR filter unit. Through extensive user trials JSP engineered out restrictive waist mounted units and hoses which resulted in an easy to operate lightweight head mounted unit.

The PowerCap® Infinity® PAPR unit has a highly efficient twin impeller system that controls the airflow through the head-top which has a cooling effect to maximise user comfort and optimise energy efficiency. Real time diagnostics monitor the performance of the airflow twice per second and ensure that the unit delivers the optimum level of airflow depending on the wearer’s demands regulating the intake and internal pressure delivering a minimum of 160 litres a minute of filtered clean air.

Feedback is given on battery and filter condition via the heads up display and audible notifications and Indicator lights on the front of the unit allow co-workers to also see if there are any issues. The Powercap® Infinity® provides users with respiratory protection to a level of TH3, EN 12491:1998 + A2: 2008 – with the highest possible rating of APF 40. It also offers head protection to EN397, eye protection to EN166.B and hearing protection to EN352-3 with the optional Sonis® helmet mounted ear defenders with an unbeaten SNR of 36.

All key elements of the PowerCap® Infinity® are user-replaceable, allowing easy maintenance and cleaning which is imperative so the PAPR unit can be used in very dusty environments.

The Powercap® Infinity® brings a simple solution to the complex problem of providing combination above the neck PPE. Its intuitive features simplify user acceptability improving compliance whilst keeping people safe at work.

Established in 1998 and now in its 20th year, Ecomerchant is a popular and successful independent employee-owned business that supplies building materials to the trade.

Based on the core values of ethical trading, healthy materials and sustainability, Ecomerchant have built up an excellent reputation as a provider of reliable and proven construction as well as offering a quality alternative to existing materials.

Higher levels of sustainability are most commonly

Typically Ecomerchant’s customer base look for higher levels of performance, reduced environmental impact, improved occupant comfort and health and lower operating costs. Many of Ecomerchant’s customers are in the self-build and custom build market, with increasing demand from local developers, regional builders, social housing, and the health and education sectors. These are the sectors that will drive change and raise standards in UK construction,

not by regulation and compliance but by a desire to build to higher standards, this is where some of the best examples of genuinely sustainable construction can be found.

To meet this demand Ecomerchant supply a vast range of products and materials including, insulation, airtightness, sheathing and sarking boards, timber windows & doors, lime and clay plasters and renders, natural paints, renewable energy products, water saving and off-grid systems, groundwork and landscaping materials and so much more all chosen to help create healthier and more

Ecomerchant has developed a range of solutions and products offering higher energy performance and building efficiency with minimal impact on the environment.

All Ecomerchant’s products are chosen for their ability to eliminate, reduce or significantly improve environmental performance, improve building health and reduce running costs. Schelling UK appoints Richard Theakston as new Service Manager“We believe in making life easier for our customers, not harder.” commented Richard Theakston, the new Service Manager at Schelling UK Ltd. Schelling UK appointed Richard Theakston as the new Service Manager in June 2017 to oversee the continued quality and future service improvements.

The secret to Schelling UK’s success is their continued investment and commitment to employee training and high service standards, not withstanding the high quality product. It is important not to forget the contribution made by our loyal workforce, many of whom have inexcess of 15 and 20 years of service and it is this loyal service which adds to the Schelling brand. Richard Theakston says, “I am immensely proud to be heading up the service team

which only began as a three man team back in 1989 but has grown into a eight plus strong workforce with over a hundred years' industry experience.”

Richard commented, “We thrive on giving our customers exactly what they want, regardless of time, we deliver fast, competent and an economical solution. You may ask ‘How is this possible?’ The service team is organised decentrally, i.e., the service technicians are flexible and start their day at different locations and times across the UK, in order to be faster and closer to the customer.

A major focus of mine is updating Schelling UK’s programmed maintenance customer service contracts which ultimately help extend the life of machinery,

reduce the likelihood of downtime and ensure machines consistently perform at their best.

In addition to programmed maintenance, Schelling UK operates an emergency call-out service and spare parts support to minimize downtime when a problem occurs. Just give us a call and we can assist by arranging a yearly service.

From Osborne House, Schelling UK sell new and used sizing equipment alongside Barbaric GmbH handling equipment, Votecs volumne reduction technology and extraction technology. For more information about Schelling UK’s comprehensive range, call: +44 (0)1937 586340 or visit: www.schelling.co.uk

Since Frelan was formed as an agent for various companies, in 1973, we have grown to become one of the leading ironmongery wholesalers to architectural ironmongers and retail outlets in the UK and Ireland.

We have built up a core range of over

3,000 products stocked and available for next day delivery to most parts of the UK with a large range of items which have been certified to CE and fire tested. We also supply items in display packs ready to display in our customers showroom.

This year, we began a new bespoke

design service which means we can take our customers ideas and help them bring their ideas to life.

If a customer or their client has a specific idea for a design for a project we will produce technical drawings with realistic renders of their design, if they then wish to proceed we will produce 3D models to make sure the design is how they or their client imagined it and once the design is agreed we will proceed to manufacture. This is a new initiative for Frelan, but we have already successfully developed designs for several large projects in London producing some unique handles to the client’s own style, finish and specification.

This together with our extensive product range of handles, hinges and many other hardware items, means we can supply products for a wide range of projects from budget to high specification projects based on their and their client’s needs.

And with a new catalogue to be launched in early 2019 we look forward to introducing more new ranges in 2019.

Brickfab, one of the highest regarded providers of pre-fabricated materials in the UK. Brickfab’s main factory is headed in South Wales, with another Cut and Bonding facility located in Stoke on Trent. They work primarily with house builders, builders’ merchants and factors across the UK. Customers include leading names such as Barratt David Wilson Homes, Redrow Homes and Bloor Homes. Set up in 1997, they have a wealth of experience, offering expertly crafted products that look great, but perform great and are long lasting too.

We spoke to National Sales & Marketing Manager Robert Evans about what the Company can offer, to which he explained, “We offer everything from brick specials to prefabricated arches, GRP or slip-clad chimneys, GRP canopies, wall & soffit panels and much more. All of our products are made in-house, after which they are transported to our clients’ sites using our fleet of vehicles or our national pallet carrier.”

Brickfab’s prefabricated arches are among their most popular products, made by carefully attaching decorative brick slips to strong and durable panel boards. Their brick-faced arches can be made with or without full soffit cladding, and are available in different heights, patterns, backings and infills.

Brickfab also specialise in providing Glassfibre Reinforced Plastic (GRP) products, such as their GRP canopies and chimneys. Their canopies are readily available off the shelf, low-maintenance, and given that they are supplied as complete, finished products, they also allow for reduced wastage of materials. Brickfab’s GRP chimneys are another favourite, coming with a 10 year product warranty and carefully colour matched to provide an accurate brick or render finish with a stone effect cap and clay-effect GRP pots.

100% GRP moulded in-house, each chimney is made right every time, as well as being completely sealed and 100% waterproof. The chimneys can be supplied with Brickfab’s Fast Lead System™, ensuring the stacks are quick and easy to work with, hence reducing lead work on site. In fact, one of the key benefits of using Brickfab’s prefabricated products means that a great looking and lasting feature on a home can be built without the skills on site that are becoming more scarce to find. House builders can simply take the product, quickly install it and then, given that Brickfab’s products are maintenance free, move on to the next project.“Because all our products are prefabricated in our factories, they are all made to be incredibly precise, and our chimneys are tested and certificated to CGMA and BBA standards,”

Robert added. “Our Brick Clad Chimneys are guaranteed to match with the rest of the client’s building, and are completely sealed and waterproof. These chimneys can be made to suit any style of building or colour, are available in different roof positions, and can be made bespoke for any type of brick or stone finish, or even prepared for render. We can also adapt our chimneys for live class flue systems. Topping off with our clay and GRP pots in different heights and colours, means the chimney can really be made your own, in any style of finish you wish.”

In 2016, Brickfab underwent a revamping, repositioning themselves in the market, upgrading their website, and overhauling their marketing. Since the rebranding, which

also saw them relaunch their renowned GRP range, they have seen considerable more success. Growing to be one of the biggest names in the industry has been supported by three separate Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with the University of Cardiff, exchanging their years of experience and expertise with the promising skills of Masters Graduates.

If you would like to find out more about Brickfab, be sure to get in contact using the details below, or head over to the website where you can find more on their many products, services and resources.

Autoslide Ltd is the UK’s leading distributor of electrically operated sliding windows and are proud to have supplied reception screens to many office projects over recent years, providing solutions to the ever-changing modern working environment.

Autoslide’s bespoke screens are made from aluminium or steel frames and made with an aesthetic, slim design. Autoslide screens offer not only sound absorption, protection and privacy, but the versatility of electric operation, meaning that with the touch of a button, the screen can be opened and closed, fully or partially, to meet the demands of a busy reception.

Autoslide screens are suitable for both indoor and covered outdoor installations. The sliding screens have different profile depths which can accommodate a variety of glass thickness to suit the needs of the application. From 6mm safety glass to multi-layered attack resistant glass or 24mm double glazed units. Staff are now in control of their working environment, closing off an administration office from a noisy or draughty corridor, or quickly closing to provide a protective barrier when threatened in a public reception. The operators have the option to open the screen to a level they are comfortable with, also eliminating the need to lean over a busy desk to manually slide a screen open or closed.

Autoslide screens can also be supplied with fire resistant glass. Their fire resistant screens use powder coated steel frames, glazed with 30 or 60 minute fire resistant glass. Screens can be supplied with an electronic control unit which can be linked to the building alarm system, which when triggered will close the screen automatically.

Perforated Image PanelsE E Ingleton have completed further projects using their new PicPerf© image perforation system.

Using the new software, anodised aluminium panels were manufactured for Thames Archtectural, and installed in Berkeley Homes Victory Pier luxury apartment development in Gillingham, as well as for ambulance bay screen panels at University College Hospital in London. Both projects called for very high open area panels to meet ventilation requirements,

whilst retaining striking images and patterns.

The Victory Pier panels feature seven different waterbirds along the car park frontage, whilst the UCL installation was based on the architect’s ‘funky trees’ concept.

The PicPerf© system is proving highly effective where designers require a visually striking and unique installation, and has been used for a number of prestigious projects including Debenham’s flagship Oxford Street store for

Dane Architectural and Kingston’s Riverside development in Kingston upon Thames for Cadisch MDA. The Kingston Riverside panels were based on a scenic photograph and also a classic motion study by the Victorian photographer Eadweard Mybridge. The Project Lions perforated panels & embossed soffit panels were based on a classic French Lace pattern.
