    Happy Easter

Spring symbolizes from the antiquity until today the

renewal of life. The Greek myth of Persephone which

came back from Hades symbolizes the rebirth of nature. Similar myths have

    other folks.

There are two important celebrations in our country in spring. The Revolution of

1821 symbolizes the rebirth of Greece and the Resurrection of Christ symbolizes

    the rebirth of man.

Apart from these celebrations, nature gives us a feast of colors, smells, songs

which really make us born again .

    Happy Spring !

    Our trip to Athens...

Last month we went to Athens for two days. First we

visited the National Archaeological Museum. We saw a lot

of statues, jewellery, ceramic pots, tools and ancient

weapons there, as well as the Antikithira Shipwreck. It

was very interesting. After that we relaxed at our hotel.

We went to the Greek parliament early in the afternoon.

We were guided there, we watched a video about the

Othonas castle and we visited Venizelos Hall too.

Then, we went to Allou fun Park and we played and had

    fun.

The second day we, first, visited the Cultural Center of

Melina Merkouri and saw the exhibitions of Karagiozis

    and The Neighborhoods of Athens

Then we visited The Attica Zoological Park. We saw a lotof animals there: monkeys, hippos, tigers, lions, snakes,

tropical birds, rhinos, seals, giraffes, brown bears, le-

murs', zebras, camels, Cretan goats, deer, reptiles, pelicans,

wild cats, flamingos, penguins, swans and ducks. There is an

Animal Hospital, an educational Center and a coffee shop

there. We watched a spectacular dolphin show.

Finally, we went to a big Mall for shopping and we returned to

    Volos.

Our trip to Athens was educational and amusing.

    Carnival Party

Last Sunday we had a school carnival party which was organ-

ized by the parents committee. All the children

were dressed up with funny costumes: vam-

    pires, monkeys, police officers, cowboys,

    Indians, scream, witches,

    clowns, princesses, pi-

    rates, Zorro, queens and

    other. We ate snacks and

sweets and we drank lemonade and orange juice. Our music teacher

Mr. Alkis Plakias played the piano and sang. It was a fantastic party

    and we enjoyed so much.

    Traditional Pies

On Friday the 28thFebruary we made pies at school. It is a tradi-

tional Greek custom to make pies the last Sunday of the Lent, so wemade cheese pies, mushroom pies, pepper pies and spinach pies. All

the pupils and the teachers of the school took part in the cooking.

The pies were very delicious and we ate them all!

Karagiozis is a very famous shadow theatre in the Balkans. The main character is Karagiozis but there

are also other figures such as: Uncle George, Kolitiri, Morfonios, Aglaia, (karagiozis wife) Pasas and oth-

ers. Karagiozis is a poor man with three children who tries to support his family and teach his children to

    be good and brave.

On Wednesday 26thof February we watched a karagiozis show. We watched two plays: The drummer

and Karagiozis cook in Jason's Argo. The first play was based on The magic flute of Mozart and the

second was based on the mythology of the Argonauts Expedition. We watched the ad-

venturous trip of Jason and his soldiers to get the Golden Fleece back from

Colchis. It was great, amazing and funny!

Our school organized an environmental and cultural event on Thursday 20thand

Friday 21th March 2014. This two-day event Paths to the Forestbook took

place in our school, the village and the nearby forest. Writers and teachers of

our school organized the activities. Not only had the students of our school but

also the pupils of the kindergarten taken part in the interactive activities.Mrs Lambadari Stavrina, a writer, was invited to our school. She presented her

book A new day begins an interactive game. Her book was very interesting

and clever. We played an interactive game: she gave us sweets with messages

and phrases from her book; we read them and talked about them. It was excit-

    ing.

The art teacher Mrs. M. Doulkeroglou and the drama teacher Miss H. Tsi-

rogianni read with us the book. The blackbird demands the forest to be saved

of the writer V. Hliopoulos. The book was about a forest on fire and how the

animals and plants helped to put out the fire. Then we made burnt trees and we

    played games.

The trees tell their own stories was the project that we made with our

    teacher Miss H. Katsora.

The Eratosthenes Experiment was organized by our headmaster Mr. H.

Karagiannis and took place in our school yard. The students of the kindergar-

ten, of A, B and C classes took part in the experiment. We put a stick (1m long)

in the middle of our yard and at 12.26 pm we had to measure the shadow of

that stick. Based on this we can calculate the imaginary perimeter of the

earth, which is 34.000 Km. It was an educational and exciting project.

The students of A, B and C classes took part in the project The yard of emo-

tions. The teachers P. Douldouri and G. Tsalavreta helped the students recog-

nize the positive and negative emotions and through games managed to

    control their emotions.

Our English teacher Mrs. Z. Louvari asked the students of A, B and C class:

Are you an ant or a cricket? The project was based on Aesop's fable The ant

and the cricket. The pupils watched the animated story in English, read the

book, drew parts of the fable made ants and dramatized the myth.

    A. Moudaki, writer of the book I love and respect even the smallest creature

on Earth, visited our school and made a project with the pupils of A, B and C

classes. They enjoyed it very much.

L' environnement autour de nous... was the environmental project of our

French teacher M. Tehnopoulou with the students of E' class.

Mr. A. Kotsopoulos, our computer teacher, Mrs M. Doulkeroglou our art teacher

and Mr. I. Koronas, our P.E. Teacher decided to make robots with the students

of the 6th Grade. Their project is Constructing robots from old computer

parts. The students were very excited and interested in this original idea.

Environmental interventions in the areas of Portaria is the environmental project that Mrs. H. Skour-

gia, A. Katsarou and G. Tsalavreta, teachers, made with the students of the 4th , the 5th and 6th

Grades. The students wore gloves, took plastic bags and collected the

rubbish of the paths and Mana spring. They were so happy and

proud that the paths and the spring were clean again thanks them!

Environmental interventions at school is the environmental project

that Mrs. E. Nasiakou, Mrs. P. Douldouri and Mrs. I. Karagiannelou,

teachers, made with the students of 1st

    , 2nd

    , and 3rd

grades. Thestudents cleaned their classrooms, the schoolyard, painted banners

and played games in the yard.

I support my book, I remember every page of it was the project of

    M. Voulgari, A. Sklidi and M. Bezou educators. They made bookends

and bookmarks with the students of D' Class. They had a great tiime.

Mr. H. Karagiannis , Mrs. I. Karagiannelou and the students of A and

C classes took part in the project The book travels in the routes of

paintings. This project is part of a filanagnosia program which runs

in our school throughout this school year .The students have read books chosen from the blog of our

school. They were very interested in the illustrations of the books and they connected the illustrations

to the trends of painting. Finally through this process the students with the help of their teachers made

posters and banners influenced by the famous painters and trends. It was an educational and interesting

    experience!

Mrs. V. Nasiakou a teacher in our school, with the pupils of B class, made the project I bring spring and

joy to my heart. It was a project about stress management through stories and games. The pupils had

great ideas and gave solutions to everyday stressful problems.

Mrs. A. Vrahnia our music teacher and the students of D class used newspapers, glue, temperas, paint-brushes, cartons and bells to make tambourines. The project was Constructing musical instruments with

waste materials. They went to a nearby playground and made the paper instruments there. They sang,

    they played and had fun.
