Principal's Comment

No cuppa this week.

Assembly at 9:00am tomorrow – Tournament of Minds performance.

Tournament of Minds

Congratulations to all students who participated in this event last Saturday. The students all worked very hard in the lead up, spending their lunchtimes and some out of school time to ensure they were well prepared. They were not allowed to have any intervention from an adult so were required to make their own costumes and props, write their own scripts and support each other as a team to solve any problems encountered along the way. Both groups performed brilliantly and there were many proud parents there on the day. Huge thanks to Simon Datson for getting the program off the ground, coaching the students over a long time and supporting them to do their best.

Hands on Learning

Our very last session of Hands on Learning is tomorrow. It has been wonderful to meet all the children taking part (and their parents) and to see how much their confidence has grown over the past few weeks. We will look forward to seeing our future students during their transition sessions in Term 4.

Fete

Our Fete this year is our major fundraiser for the year. We all need to pull together as a school community to ensure it is a huge success. Many people in our school community are already working very hard to make sure this happens. Funds raised from our Fete will go towards renovations of the Library and Art buildings. Also on the wish list is internal painting and new pin boards for our upstairs building. We can only do these things if we fund raise.

Recently we have been calling for donations for various items. Please keep these coming in to the office. We are now calling for donations of family blocks of chocolate. This week they are on sale at Woolworths for $2.49.

Our next meeting is on 8th September at 7:00pm. I would like all coordinators of stalls to attend so that we may begin planning locations and items required. Supper provided.

Book Fair Our annual Book Fair will open for business on Friday this week. It will remain at school until next Wednesday. All students will have the opportunity during their Library sessions to look at the books available and to formulate a ‘wish list’ – look out parents! Funds raised at this event will be used to purchase new books for our school.

Boomtec Boomtec is on again this Friday night for our Level 4 students. Helpers are desperately needed to ensure the event can go ahead. If you are able to assist with supervision, please contact Bec McGrath or leave your name at the office. Boomtec raises a lot of money for the school so it is important that we all continue to support it.

Enrolments for 2016 If you have a child who is coming to school next year, please come into the office and collect an enrolment form. We have to lodge our proposed numbers with Department of Education and Training (DET) in early August, so the sooner we have an idea of our Prep numbers for next year, the better the prediction we can make. If you can’t get into the office, please call and our lovely office girls will mail one to you. Also, if you know you will be leaving the school at the end of this year (we don’t want you to) please let us know. This does not apply to departing Year 6 students.

Wet Weather Spare Uniform With this wet weather we are running out of spare clothes for children getting muddy in the yard. Please pack a change of clothes for your child in case of slip ups. If your child has previously borrowed uniform please wash and return it to school for the next muddy child.

Book Club Book Club #6 orders due: Thursday 3rd of September.

Keep collecting your stickers and pop them in the Tinternvale Pri-mary School collection box here at school, at Woolworths Eastland or Arndale Shopping Centre.

Fete Donations

Please keep bringing in your second hand clothes, trash and treasure and succulent cuttings to be potted up. We now need to start collecting:

Lucky bags

If you have any small trinkets such as coloured pencils, hair accessories, bouncy balls etc:

Blocks of chocolate

All donations are greatly appreciated.

Marimba Fundraiser

Congratulations and thank you to everyone for dressing up so well last Friday. You all looked fantastic and helped raise $283.45 to go towards our own Marimba. Construction will start soon, so keep an ear out for the sounds of our very own Marim-ba. Well done!

District Athletics

District Athletics is on next Wednesday, 2nd September at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood. The program is on the school website, under Events if you would like to see what time students are com-peting. We also need to provide adults to run the Triple Jump event. Thank you to the two par-ents who have indicated that they can assist, however it would be great to have some more people on board to help them out. Let me know if you can and good luck to all of our amazing athletes.

Big Mates Pizza Lunch

Don’t forget to put orders in for your pizza lunch. Held on Monday 14th of September when Tinternvale Primary will be celebrating Footy Day. Come dressed in your favourite footy gear and enjoy some delicious pizza for lunch!!! Further information included in this Tintalk.

Uniform Shop Vacancies

The Uniform Shop here at Tinternvale is run completely by volunteers from the parent community. Next year as their children move on to High School, we will lose some of these volunteers. So to make sure the service remains one that is provided by the school community we are looking for people interested in this important role. Below is a little of what the role entails.

The Uniform Shop is open from 8:30am to 9:00am on a Friday morning – we chose these hours so the parents manning the shop can still attend Friday morning assembly. The aim is to have four or more parents in-volved so as to make shop du-ties on a fortnightly roster. Out-side this there is a yearly stock-take, the Grade 6 uniforms and some extra shop opening hours for the four week Prep Transi-tion program. The stocktake would take up an extra hour once a year. The Grade 6 uni-form involves a few extra ses-sions of maybe an hour or two, one to size the kids, one to re-ceipt and organise the order, and one to distribute the uni-forms. One thing to remember is if we achieve a staff of four parents it won’t be expected that everyone attend all of these extra times.

If you’re interested please see Kerrie or Jo to advise them, or leave your name and number with the girls in the office so they can pass your details on.

Tournament of Minds

An enormous congratulations to our 14 students who spent last Saturday at the Tournament of Minds competition. As always, they represented Tinternvale fantastically and were great am-bassadors for our school. Their presentations were wonderful and their solutions to the prob-lems presented to them were innovative, interesting and in-genious. Each group will be pre-senting their Long Term Chal-lenge at Assembly over the next two weeks if you would like to see what it is all about. Also to all of the parents for getting their students to the competi-tion, hosting extra Sunday prac-tices and generally encouraging and supporting what the event was all about, Thank You. Re-sults are not out yet, I will let everyone know when I do.

Tournament of Minds What do Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Florence Nightingale have in common? Well, they were all kicked out of history last Saturday at the Tournament of Minds! We completed a 6 week and a spontaneous challenge at Mt Lilydale Mercy College against many other schools. We had 2 teams consisting each of 7 members, from Level 4 and 6. Although we haven’t received any word, we believe we did a great job. Prior to receiving the long term/6 week challenge we worked as a team to solve smaller challenges as we have performed before at assembly. Throughout the past year we have been working hard to ‘think outside the box’ and extend our creativity, thinking and learning. Luckily enough, Leonardo Da Vinci and Henry the eighth stayed in history!

By Matt, Alex, Smile and Emily.

painting) (This is Henry the 8th and his family)
