September started with the scare of Dorian for all of us in Florida, but a lucky right turn saved our Nature Coast! Our thoughts and prayers go to those who have been af-fected. Our September luncheon attendance was 214 mem-bers, 3 new members and 12 guests. A great start for our CHWC year! And the information about the Bayfront Health standalone Emergency Room in Citrus Hills was a welcome top-ic thanks to CEO Linda Stockton’s presentation.
What a treat to get the bright Sunshine Yellow Member Direc-tory with many thanks to Marta Iler and the Membership Com-mittee for handling the production and distribution. And cheers to the Hospitality Committee for the introduction of a new method of checking in at the meeting. The colorful craft sticks make menu selection quick and easy for our Hospitality Commit-tee and for the wait staff! And special thanks to Joanie Ma-trosic, Shirley Vandlik, Nanette Mitchell and Susan Walsh Green for taking on the name tag chores and to Clydie Wil-liams for handling the computer end of it all!
We are sad to announce that we are no longer allowed to have the Courtesy Cart as Laura Lambert informed us that no carts are to be driven in the parking lots. There was an incident that brought the matter to bear, and Citrus Hills’ insurance will not cover such service. I hope you can find ride sharing arrange-ments to be dropped off at the top of the hill.
We have two fundraisers, the first is the Mah Jongg Tourna-ment on October 24
th chaired by Carol Peterman …… it is al-
ways a sell out, so register quickly. The other strong fundraiser is the “Turkey Shoot” Golf Scramble on November 1
st chaired
by Diane Edwards and Brenda Huntsberry. Of course, the events are fortunate to have great committee members to help share the load and brings the Companionship part of our mission.

Issue #2 Editor: Marta Iler
Inside This Issue
The other arm of our motto is Community and we will fill that with November’s Keep Citrus Warm event chaired by Ileen Zavoda and Sheri Tigner, who originated the biannual event several years ago. We have collected since 2013 so far starting 6 years ago and the CHWC always is very supportive and generous. Please re-mind our Snowbirds to bring some warm stuff back for donation and ladies, this is a great opportunity to clean out those closets!
November will bring our annual Bake and Craft Sale, so go through your recipes and don your aprons, while those talented in crafting, we challenge you to produce many remarkable goodies. Thanks to co-chairs Janet Bauer and Peggy Bock, and to all of you wonderful women who make this annual event a great success!
A NEW ADDITION TO OUR CLUB - THE HUSH PATROL
We love to visit with our friends at the luncheons, and have plenty of time before and while we are eating. However, there have been many complaints that the constant talking when someone is at the podium is bothersome and rude.
We are required to have a minimum of 8 meetings a year. We ask that you exercise proper decorum for the enjoyment of oth-ers who want to hear what is being said. So…..we now have a new position, The HUSH PATROL. Diane Edwards and Brenda Huntsberry volun-teered to patrol the room and gently advise those talking out of turn to PLEASE HUSH! We appreciate their efforts to keep the room quiet when speakers are at the podium and expect your cooperation!

Attention to all CHWC Members AND Snowbirds returning to Florida. Please look into your closets and drawers for coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, blankets, jeans, sweat pants and winter related items for our November KEEP CITRUS WARM Luncheon project.
Co-chairing this event is Ileen Zavoda and Sheri Tigner. We are among the fortunate ones living in beautiful Citrus Hills and most of us know there are many families living at risk who really look forward to this donation for the colder months. It will help you "declutter" and will help those less fortunate.
If you have any questions, contact Ileen @ 527-3104 or Sheri @ 586-2831.
THANK YOU

from the Scholarship Committee
We are happy to report that we have received several thank you notes from the stu-dents who were recipients of our scholarships in the spring of 2019. We were de-lighted to hear from each and every student. Below are representative excerpts from a few of the notes we received:
From Hailey McMahon, CHS: “……. I am beyond honored to represent your organiza-
tion at Berry College. Although I may be far away for a while, I look forward to bringing my
new knowledge and skill set back here in the future. Thank you for believing in me. Berry
College lives by the motto of “We All Row,” but I can assure you that no one will row harder
than I will!”
From Madison Verdone, LHS: “…. I take this scholarship as a true honor and will use
the funds in pursuit of becoming a forensic psychiatrist at the University of Florida. I felt so
welcomed at the banquet and deeply appreciate the generosity of every member of the Cit-
rus Hills Women’s Club.”
From Hazel Fernandez, LHS: “…… I am very thankful for receiving your thoughtful, generous gift. You have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. Thank you for enabling me to go to college – a dream come true for me and my family. With gratitude …”
From Madison Weaver, LHS: “Thank you for helping me pursue my dreams. I couldn’t have done it without you!”
From Emmalee Nadler, CHS: “…. I am honored to be selected as the recipient of the Citrus Hills Women’s Club Scholarship. Your generosity allows me to pursue my dream of becoming a physical therapy assistant. As I start my education at CCF, I am very blessed, for without your help, I may not have been able to pursue my career.”
Makenzie Shaw, a Citrus High School graduate and CHWC scholarship recipi-ent, will be attending the University of South Florida in pursuit of a degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology. Enclosed in her thank you note was a quote by author and anthro-pologist, Jane Goodall: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind
of difference you want to make.” In our consistent support of education for the students of Citrus County, the members of the CHWC have definitely had a positive impact and made a discernible difference in the lives of the young people in our commu-nity.

Lunch and Shopping
October 23, 2019
Experience the floral beauty of Florida on our
first trip of the year. The Florida Botanical
Gardens will be the destination as we travel by
Lamer’s coach to Largo. The Gardens, con-
sidered to be one of Florida’s finest, en-
compass 150 acres of scenic landscapes and
natural habitats. More than 25 individual gar-
dens and displays showcase tropical plants, day lilies, bromeli-
ads, butterflies, and roses. On arrival, members will be able to walk through the Gar-
dens at their own pace, choosing what they care to see. Check out the Gardens at:
www.flbg.org
As we leave the Gardens we will board the bus for a short drive to Dunedin. A
sumptuous luncheon will await us at the landmark Bon Appetit Restaurant on the
waterfront. The price of our tour includes an all-inclusive chef created meal in a pri-
vate room with a view of the water.
After lunch, quaint downtown Dunedin will await those who wish to shop. However,
if Shopping is not “your thing”, feel free to enjoy the beauty of the Gulf!
Host for this trip is Janet Greig.
Secure your seat on this trip at the October meeting or prior to it, by mailing
this completed form with a check in the amount of $60.00 to CHWC.

HAVING FUN IN THE KITCHEN!
Be prepared CHWC—the sign-up begins at the October luncheon for this year’s Aprons Cooking School trips! Since there are two trips, you can take your pick between either Tuesday, January 21, 2020 or Tuesday, January 28, 2020. The trips will be exactly the same in all aspects, except you have a choice for the date you wish to travel.
This year we will be traveling to the Publix on Dr. Phillips Blvd. in Orlando for Wine and Dine in Napa Valley, an inspired gourmet four course lunch menu with wine pairings! A dining experience that is outstanding as only Aprons can provide and one you won’t want to miss! We will eat, drink, learn and have fun! Follow-ing the exceptional lunch, there will be plenty of time to wander The Marketplace and shop at Home Goods and Stein Mart. Or perhaps you will decide to stroll around The Marketplace and have an aperitif or coffee before boarding the bus for home.
We can accommodate 56 on each bus. The price will be $80 per person. It in-cludes transportation, bus driver gratuity, Aprons lunch and wine, snacks, drinks, and prizes on the bus. Initial reservations confirmed with payment will be for members only. If there are available spots after the October luncheon, we will open these trips to guests. At the October luncheon, you may sign up your-self and three other members. If you are signing up for someone else, bring their name, email address, cell number and of course, their check for $80. It is helpful if you have this information in writing.
Your trip coordinators for January 21 are Marcia Porterfield, Della Nugent, and Di-ane Edwards. The January 28 coordina-tors are Joan Herzog, Ileen Zavoda and Diane Burton. We look forward to sharing this wonderful experience with you! For ad-ditional information, contact Marcia at 734 223 2026 or Joan at 352 419 6399.

ADOPT A CHILD FOR CHRISTMAS
The “Adopt a Child Project” is a coordinated effort of agencies and schools in Citrus County to provide Christmas gifts for the underprivileged children in the county through the Citrus County Family Resource Center’s “Adopt a Child” for Christmas project. In 2018 this project provided Christmas gifts to 2,327 approved children and has provided Christmas for many thousands of children for over 36 years. Children’s names are cross-checked with names that appear on other agencies lists and a determination is made by CCFRC which agency will be providing their gifts this year.
CHWC members will have an opportunity to sign up on the sheet provided on each table at the October 9
th luncheon to adopt a “specific” child for Christmas 2019. The
sheet on the table will ask for your name, address, phone number and whether you would like a girl or boy and what age bracket you would like. You will then receive a “specific child’s” sheet at the November 13
th luncheon which will
give the Child’s first name, their ID number and a list of your child’s needs and some wants for Christmas this year. We need your help by purchasing as many of the needed items you feel you can. Some items would possibly be a blanket, clothes as well as some toys to play with for your child. After your shopping is complete you would return the unwrapped gifts to the Family Resource Center by a specific date along with the child’s sheet. All information you will need will be on the child’s sheet. Please make a photo copy of your sheet before going shopping so that in case the child’s sheet gets lost you will still know who your child is . In 2018 CHWC members adopted or donated funds to-wards 204 children’s Christmas gifts. The need is tremendous again this year, and we who are blessed with so much can make a less fortunate child’s Christmas wonderful.
Other ways to help include:
• A donation of wrapping paper and scotch tape with your child’s gifts is very important to us.
• Purchasing clothes, blankets, toys, etc. for any child and dropping off at the Center.
• Making a monetary donation and we will go shopping for the child.
• Volunteering to wrap the presents after they have been inventoried.
• Volunteering to be a hostess at the front door taking in children’s gifts from the sponsor.
• Volunteering to be an inventory person who would make sure the gifts are appropriate for the child as well as checking sizes of clothing and making sure the toys are age appropriate.
• Volunteering to do shopping for a child that a donor provides funds for but cannot shop them-selves.
• Come down whenever you can and you will be able to help out in some way, shape or form.
We need your help so please think about assisting us in this fulfilling project. You will be amazed at how much more meaningful the Christmas season is when you volunteer or participate. Many of our current vol-unteers have been volunteering for this project for 10-20 years and we are all getting older each year and we need more people to help us complete Christmas for over two thousand children in a short period of time.
Sign up to adopt a child at the October luncheon or if you are unable to at-tend, call Carol Peterman at 860-2818 or email her at
[email protected]. Children’s sheets will be passed out at the November 13th luncheon or mailed if you do not attend.
