Dear Lawson Parents and Carers, Principal's Message Term 4 has been very busy indeed. We've had swim scheme, school captain's speeches, transition to kindergarten and so much more. Stage 3 Canberra Camp A big thank you to our teachers and students for a successful Canberra Camp which was an education tour of the Nation’s capital on the 4 th to 6 th November. Students visited the War Memorial, Parliament House, Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport to name a few. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Transition to Kindergarten Thank you to our incoming kinder students for 2020. We've enjoyed having you visit your new school and spend time with us. Can't wait to see you again in the new year! Volunteer Thank You! We will be celebrating International Volunteer Day this Thursday the 5th of December from 10:55am to 11:30am. Volunteering provides communities around the world with opportunities for solidarity and inclusion. We are so fortunate to have such a strong network of individuals who give so freely of themselves and their time for our school and community. On behalf of everyone here at Lawson Public School, thank you! Stop Work Meeting As many of you may already be aware, tomorrow the NSW Teachers Federation is calling on members to attend a stop work meeting at various locations throughout the Blue Mountains. Thank you to all of the parents extending their support. There will be limited supervision at school tomorrow (5 December) from 8.30am-10.30am. Swim scheme will be cancelled for tomorrow. Normal school operation will commence from 10:30am. Issue 19 – Week 8 – Term 4 Wednesday 4 December 2019

Presentation Day We would love to have you join us for this year's annual Presentation Ceremony. This is an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of our students, staff and community. Hope to see you on Friday the 13th of December from 11.15am to 1.00pm.

Classes 2020

Here at Lawson Public School, we pride ourselves on many things, planning and preparation for the year ahead is certainly one of them.

We are pleased to announce that we are now putting the final touches on our class allocations for 2020. This is a long and complicated process which involves many considerations including, student ages, class sizes, student numbers and also peer groups. Yesterday, all of the students were able to complete a sociogram (thank you for organising Mrs Larkin) which gave them some voice in terms of their placement for next year.

We anticipate that early next week, we will announce the outcome to our students!

We respectfully request that students and families recognise the complexity of student placement and due to class sizes and student numbers it is not easy to adjust our decision without considerable disruption to the overall structure.

If you or your child do have a concern, please contact the principal.

Warmest Regards

Matthew Jacobson Principal

Captain’s Report

Hello and welcome Students, Staff and Parents. This is our

Captain’s speech for this week. Firstly, at our school we

want you to help us help native wildlife like koalas,

kangaroos and more seriously affected, by generously

donating 5 cent coins to go towards saving the animals.

100% of donations are being evenly divided and are going

towards Port Macquarie Koala Hospital NSW, The Rescue

Collective QLD and also Koalas in Care NSW.

On the 25th of November stage 1 and 2 went on

their first day at Swim Scheme at Lawson Pool and

we hope they have a great time today and in the

future.

On Wednesday the 27th most of year 5’s did a speech to try and be our

future captains. We hope all of you had fun experiencing being a captain

in front of our “wonderful” school.

Last week and this week we did artists in residences. On the first

lesson we learnt how to draw things in ways we have never seen

before and on the second lesson we drew some amazing

canvases. Our work will be presented next week. A special

thanks to Beth who helped us throughout the process.

On the 2nd of December 30 of our kindy’s are coming back for another

kindy transition with MOCS.

On the 6th of December we have fun food day, where we will get to eat

food and also play some very fun games.

Congratulations Premier Reading challengers. You all did so great.

On that note, that is the end of this week’s Captain’s Report and we

hope you found out something new.

THANKYOU

Matilda & Zarna
