L3 is one of the most trusted companies in the marketplace, and its KITE terminal and MarCom ® technology are fielded on numerous platforms around the world. The L3 MarCom team closely monitors emerging trends as well as customer demands for the latest technologies to meet their needs. That is why over the last year, L3 has unveiled a new IP-capable “K2” tactical terminal. This newly designed IP terminal offers the same capabilities and features that the legacy KITE provided, but also delivers additional functions and features that are only available in an IP environment. By designing the K2 for an IP architecture, we offer our customers all the benefits of coexisting within an IP infrastructure, as well as enabling the K2 to access data for high-quality voice, video and multi-media capabilities. This year, the team’s goals consist of completing the virtualization of the MarCom switching architecture. This virtualization will offer even more benefits for our customers, while still providing the high level of reliability required. By allowing the system to operate in a private cloud, where processing and memory resources are often pooled, our customers will have greater flexibility in how to install and manage the system. Additionally, by increasing the amount of COTS delivered with each installation, we reduce the customer’s required resources to support custom hardware solutions. The new architecture will be scalable and will allow for easy retrofits to existing platforms or brand-new installations. L3 Communication Systems–East’s Core Technology

Innovating, Designing and Developing for the Future

For over 50 years, L3 Communication Systems-East (CS-East) located in Camden, NJ, has

designed, developed, manufactured and provided our customers with Integrated Communication

Systems (ICS) capabilities. L3 is one of the most trusted companies in the marketplace, and its

KITE terminal and MarCom® technology are fielded on numerous platforms around the world.

The L3 MarCom team closely monitors emerging trends as well as customer demands for the latest

technologies to meet their needs. That is why over the last year, L3 has unveiled a new

IP-capable “K2” tactical terminal. This newly designed IP terminal offers the same capabilities and

features that the legacy KITE provided, but also delivers additional functions and features that are

only available in an IP environment. By designing the K2 for an IP

architecture, we offer our customers all the benefits of coexisting within an

IP infrastructure, as well as enabling the K2 to access data for

high-quality voice, video and multi-media capabilities.

This year, the team’s goals consist of completing the virtualization of the

MarCom switching architecture. This virtualization will offer even more

benefits for our customers, while still providing the high level of reliability

required. By allowing the system to operate in a private cloud, where

processing and memory resources are often pooled, our customers will

have greater flexibility in how to install and manage the system.

Additionally, by increasing the amount of COTS delivered with each

installation, we reduce the customer’s required resources to support

custom hardware solutions. The new architecture will be scalable and

will allow for easy retrofits to existing platforms or brand-new installations. L3’s K2

L3 CS-East’s latest Symphony® software was featured in the L3 booth at this year’s Surface Navy

Association’s national symposium in Crystal City, Virginia. The demonstration, which consisted of a

55”, 4K touch screen table display, presented our concept of the “Battlespace of the Future.”

Recognizing the evolving threats and challenges facing our navies, L3 was able to present our vision

of Automated Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare required by manned and unmanned vessels in the

future. The demonstration featured automated management and control of the platform,

communications and network infrastructure while also featuring agile spectrum monitoring and

response, and cyber/electronic protection. L3 was able to demonstrate automated threat response

and operational plans in contested environments to minimize exposure and maintain connectivity.

L3’s vision of Assured Autonomous Communications Networks (AACN) is enabled by L3’s

next-generation Symphony engine, which provides fleet-wide mission planning and coordination to

ensure the health and resilience of the future tactical grid.

Symphony is built on an open architecture framework enabling rapid development of new

capabilities, applications and integration of existing third-party hardware and software. Our solution

seamlessly supports the integration of the Navy’s open architecture initiatives and existing programs

such as Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) and the Automated Digital

Network System (ADNS).
