JUBILEE PICNIC AT BURGHLEY HOUSE

The winners of the Jubilee writing competition were very excited on Wednesday 13 June as the time had finally arrived to travel to Burghley House to see her Majesty the Queen. Seven Pupils packed their picnic lunches, union jack flags and picnic rugs for an enjoyable day. We were very lucky to see the Queen arrive by helicopter and go past our excited crowd twice.

The children at Catmose Primary have enjoyed a book fair recently.  The children have the opportunity to read and browse a range of books and make purchases with their families and friends.  As well as raising the importance of reading, the book fair also raises funds for the school and provides extra fiction and non-fiction books for the school library.  We hope everyone enjoyed the Book Fair and are enjoying their purchases at home.

BOOK FAIR

OUTSTANDING LUNCH MONEY

Could all outstanding lunch money please be paid by Friday 29 June.  Without payment your child will not be able to take any further hot meals. We are sure you understand the need to draw a line under any outstanding costs in order to ensure that the lunchtime provision remains viable. We thank you for your help in this matter.

OLYMPIC AMBASSADOR PROJECT COMPETITION

Mr Smith and the Year 6 Olympic Ambassadors would like to run a competition in order to choose two KS1 winners and two KS2 winners.  The competition is to design a new Olympic event.  Children are asked to write the rules for the event and draw a picture of what the event would look like.  Entries must be sent to Mrs Jackson via the school office by Friday 5 July.Good luck everyone with this exciting competition!

LOROS FUNDRAISING

Due to a recent family tragedy my family and I will be completing the three peak challenge in July to Raise money for Cancer Research and LOROS. This fundraising was extended within the school and a representative of LOROS came into school on Monday 11 June 2012. Catmose Primary children were put through their paces and took part in exciting games which required stamina and co-ordination. Thank you all for all of your fantastic fundraising and remember it is not too late if you have any sponsor money still to give.

TRIM TRAIL

Catmose Primary welcomed Tom Bingley, Community Head Coach from Nottingham Forest Football Club, to open the Catmose Primary Trim Trail.Funded by monies raised by the schools’ Parent Teachers Association, the Trim Trail will be available for use by all pupils and is located in the KS2 playground.  The swing ropes and climbing bars will encourage students to play outdoors and improve their fitness in a fun and exciting environment.

Kelly Jackson, Vice Principal of Catmose Primary said “We are very grateful for the support of the PTA and our parents in raising money for the Trim Trail.  The children are very excited at being able to use it.”Tom Bingley has since written to Andrea Holton, Chair of Catmse Primary Friends;“it’s been non-stop at the City Ground all week but I've finally found 5 minutes to say a big thank you for inviting me along last Thursday to open the new trim trail, it was very enjoyable to see everyone again and have a kickabout with the Year 6s. Looking out of the window at the minute we certainly got lucky with the weather. You did a fantastic job organising the event and the parents who helped with handing out the cakes and milkshakes were superb.”

The PTA will continue with their fundraising to extend the Trim Trail further.  If you are able to help, please contact the school on 01572 723187.

KS2 PRODUCTION

The KS2 Summer Production is in rehearsal.  Could we make a polite request for any old sheets you may have at home to be used as costumes in the production.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

IN FOCUS - WILLOW CLASSIn numeracy we have been looking at the Olympics. In addition to designing our own Olympic stadiums, we have been given a budget and have been buying equipment to be put in our stadiums. It has been a challenging job, as

we only had £20,000, we have been looking at the opening ceremonies in the past Olympic games.

In literacy we have been learning about Greek myths. In particular Helen of Troy and the Trojan horse. We have looked at many different versions of the story and used our new found knowledge of the story to create our own. We have tried to re-enact the story in many ways, one of which was that we made a radio broadcast. Also we have been practising our play (Go for Gold).

You can listen to one of our our radio broadcasts online: http://audioboo.fm/boos/844384-greekettes
