Issue 1 F ALL Grand Canyon and Creation WHEN YOU STAND on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and look across and down the mile-deep gorge, you can see many different layers of earth and rock. Each layer is easily seen because of its color: black, sand, ocher, rust, and other shades. The Grand Canyon shows more strata than anywhere else. These layers also tell some of the story found in the Bible. The rock layers of the Grand Canyon give testimony to layers being laid down in a rapid succession. Many scientists believe this layering can be attributed to the global flood (Genesis 6–9). Among the layers are evidences of God’s creation. Fossils of early plant life and land-life ferns are there. Search among the limestone layers and you’ll find fossil shells and fossils of small sea creatures. Some of the marine fossils are embedded in layers thousands of feet above sea level, indicating that ocean waters rose up over the mountains during the flood, depositing ocean creatures on the continent. Evidences of God’s creation can be found around the world. The Grand Canyon is just one of those awesome places that confirm what was recorded centuries ago in God’s Word.

Grand Canyon and CreationWHEN YOU STAND on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and look across and down the mile-deep gorge, you can see many different layers of earth and rock.

A “Just Right”by Jenna Lusby

A“Just Right”“Just Right”by Jenna Lusbyby Jenna Lusby

ONCE UPON A time there were three bears . . . You know how it goes. Goldilocks happened upon the home of the three bears. One bowl of porridge was just right. One chair was just right. And Goldilocks ended up falling asleep in Baby Bear’s bed because it was just right.

What does all this have to do with the creation of the world? Once upon a time—except this was a real event, not a fairy tale—God created the heavens and the earth . . . and He made everything just right!

Scientists are discovering more and more amazing examples of the perfect balance of nature. If the sun were any closer to the earth, we’d burn up. But if it were any farther away, we’d freeze.

If the sun’s light were any redder or any bluer, plants couldn’t grow. And without plants we’d all die. If the moon were any closer, we’d have giant tidal waves every day. But if it were any farther away, there wouldn’t be enough movement in the oceans to distribute nutrients.

If there were more water in the clouds, heat would build up on the earth. But if there were less water above us in the sky, the earth would dry up.

Light travels neither too quickly nor too slowly, which means our sky is not too bright and not too dark. You may not feel as if you’re “tilted” or “rotating”—but you are! And on exactly the right slant. If the earth

were the least degree off, temperatures would be unbearable.Yes, God has made sure that our planet is not too hot and not too cold, not too big and not too little, not too

light and not too dark, not too fast and not too slow, not too wet and not too dry. God made the world just right.

God’s creation of the world is no make-believe tale. God made everything just right! Now

that’s a story everyone should hear!

THE PROPORTION OF oceans to land is just right to maintain numerous kinds of life-forms. If the earth spun faster in space, giant windstorms would blow us away every day. If the earth spun slower, we’d freeze at night and be too hot during the day.

ON CHRISTMAS EVE 1968, astronauts Frank Borman, William Anders, and James Lovell orbited the moon in the Apollo 8 spacecraft. Looking at earth, they took turns reading from the book of Genesis, beginning with the first verse: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The astronauts broadcast the message of God’s creation to the entire world. One of David’s psalms says that the heavens do

the same: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

Step outside and look at the billions of stars. How were they placed in such wonderful patterns across the sky? The Bible says, “God . . . also made the stars” (Genesis 1:16).

Some people think that the universe came into existence by chance or through some sort of cosmic accident. But common sense tells us that everything made has a maker.

The astronauts finished their Scripture reading with Genesis 1:10: “And God saw that it was good.”
