Featured Bowlers
Age: 11 School: Elmwood Elementary School Home Center: Habetler Bowl
Division: Handicap, ISST Average 156 Sanc'oned High Game/Series: 244/603
Started bowling at age: 6 When did you start bowling the ISST? 2014-2015
What is your favorite thing about the tour? My favorite things about the ISST are
bowling on different sport shot pa3erns for each tournament which causes me to
focus more, enjoyable me spent seeing my ISST bowling friends and lastly, I love
wearing cool, bright, retro and unique bowling ou6its which reflects my personality.
What kept you going through the hard 'mes? How one handles hard mes is a true
test of a good bowler. When I struggle with low games, I take it as a personal chal-
lenge to focus more and make necessary adjustments accordingly. I keep my frustra-
ons in check, remain calm and step my game up.
What advice would you give to someone who’s just star'ng the ISST? The ISST Tour
is not like your typical house shot. It can be very challenging to say the least. You will
struggle in the beginning. As long as you can look in a mirror at the end of the tourna-
ment and reflect “I gave my best, my all and never gave up” then ulmately you are a
WINNER! It does get be3er. Don’t queson yourself or bowling abilies.
Who’s your biggest inspira'on? My parents are my biggest inspiraon. My Dad IS
my BIGGEST FAN with sports and greatest teacher of life lessons. He has always taught
me the importance of being a STUDENT FIRST and athlete second. He has also taught
me the importance of being HUMBLE and APPRECIATIVE of these opportunies and
something I do not take for granted. Dad keeps it “real” when I ask him for advice,
suggesons and opons. I may not always like what he has to say, but I know he is
being completely honest with me because he loves me and cares about my well-being.
Dad is always at each tournament through my successes, frustraons and struggles.
He reminds me to accept the bad as well as you accept the successes, Dad always
reminds me when I parcipate in these tournaments, be proud to represent both my
heritages (African American & Puerto Rican), my Elmwood Park community and all the
family & friends that have followed me throughout my bowling journey. With my
enre support staff behind me, I do not consider it as luck, I am truly BLESSED and
GRATEFUL to have all of these wonderful people in my life.
How many 'mes have you been to Jr. Gold? Once, in 2015 (Chicago).
What is your posi've take-away from Jr. Gold? I enjoyed meeng and talking to a
lot of the PBA Bowlers that I see on TV. I also felt like a PBA Bowler by going to various
bowling lanes for specific pracce mes, various sports condions and the organiza-
on of it. It was fun parcipate in the Collegiate Experience and see a lot of College
Bowling Coaches and Teams in the same room. It made me feel very special that Wich-
ita State University Shockers (Coach V, Coach Lewis, Coach Holly, and bowler Thomas
Peters) were there and they all remembered my name from when I a3ended their
weekend bowling camp in Wichita Kansas at age 8.
What is your nega've take-away from Jr. Gold? Nothing negave; it was all a part
of the life lessons I will experience as I get older. Although I didn’t win the U12 Boys
Division, I was very fortunate to finish 60th
out of 190th
in the naon and gives me
something to strive for.
Overall, what has bowling done for you? Bowling is also opening up a lot of doors
for my future and educaon. Being in a compeve seOng has caused me to focus
more and strengthen the mental part of my game. I have learned NOT to pout when I
throw a bad ball or have a bad game. These types of reacons will not change the bad
results and will only hold me back from bowling my best. I keep a good aOtude, show
good sportsmanship and am respec6ul to others. I am more focus, dedicated, passion-
ate and care about my behaviors and my results. Whether it’s being a Student in
school, playing Quarterback in Football, Point Guard in Basketball or Bowling, these
sports don’t mean a thing unless I am having FUN. Having bowled in a large amount of
tournaments across the Midwest at this age, makes me think about those who are less
fortunate and solidifies my appreciaon of the sport and the sacrifices my parent
make toward my future success. I will achieve my goals in life.
Age: 18 School: Joliet Junior College Home Center: AMF Bolingbrook
Division: Scratch Girls, ISST Average 174 Sanc'oned High Game/Series: 268/682
Started bowling at age: 9 When did you start bowling the ISST? 2014-2015
What is your favorite thing about the tour? My favorite thing about the tour
would be geOng to bowl at a different bowling alley with a different sport shot
pa3ern for each tournament. I enjoy experiencing various bowling alleys because of
the atmosphere, the approaches, and the lanes.
What kept you going through the hard 'mes? No ma3er what, I have to get
back up and keep trying. Having a posive aOtude will always help me when I am
going through hard mes. I work on my weaknesses, and my mental game. There is
always room for improvement. My supporters also keep me going through the hard
mes. My supporters liR me up, and they won’t let me get down on myself.
What advice would you give to someone who’s just star'ng the ISST? You need
to have confidence in yourself. You need to know that you can bowl well no ma3er
what bowling alley you walk into. Don’t focus on any other bowlers, or compare
yourself to other bowlers. No ma3er what the shot is, take it one frame at a me.
You need to have fun while bowling. Also, please do not argue with your parents. It
does not look good when you yell at your parents or give them aOtude.
Who’s your biggest inspira'on? I’d say that my parents are my biggest inspira-
on. They have always taught me to go aRer my dreams. They have been through
all of my achievements, and all of my upsets. They were the first people to ever
believe in me. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without them. Part of
my inspiraon also comes from everyone else that supports me. I wouldn’t be the
bowler I am today without my youth league, my friends, and my family members.
They all have supported me no ma3er how I bowl. My boyfriend is also part of my
inspiraon as well. He went through surgery because he tore his ACL and his menis-
cus. He worked his bu3 off at physical therapy, and he ended up bowling soon
aRer. He finished out a great senior bowling season. That taught me to never give
up. If you really want something, you have to work hard to get it. He tries to watch
and support me at most of the tournaments that I bowl in. He makes sure that I
believe in myself, and that I stay as posive as possible. All of these people have
made a major impact on my bowling career. I am incredibly thankful to have all of
these wonderful people in my life.
How many 'mes have you been to Jr. Gold? Once, in 2015 (Chicago)
What is your posi've take-away from Jr. Gold? It is such a great experience to be
involved in for youth bowlers. This tournament can make a huge impact on future
college opportunies. No ma3er how you bowl, you always learn something new.
You learn more about your weaknesses, and your strengths. Junior Gold will weigh
in heavy on someone’s mental game, but it can make you a stronger bowler. Junior
Gold is also a fun experience to meet new bowlers, and to show how well of a bow-
ler you have become. Junior Gold is the tournament most youths are preparing for
every year. I encourage every youth bowler to bowl at Junior Gold at least once.
What is your nega've take-away from Jr. Gold? I don’t think there was a nega-
ve take-away from Jr. Gold. It was a great learning experience, and I can’t wait to
bowl in Indianapolis.
Overall, what has bowling done for you? I want to bowl for the rest of my life. I
can bowl no ma3er what my mood is. Bowling has brought me to some great
friends, and great teammates. Bowling has made me set high goals for myself. I
watch professional bowlers on TV, and I even went to the USBC Masters. I want to
be a professional bowler someday. I know it will be tough to be a professional bow-
ler, but I know I can do it. I won’t be bowling to get trophies, money, or just win. I
want to bowl to become a professional bowler and because bowling is what I love
to do. I will achieve my goals.
