to deliberate and discuss challenges and incentives for promoting
Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation in India.
The workshop was inaugurated by Shri A. P. Padhi, Chief Secretary,
Government of Odisha. Dignitaries present for the workshop were

Odisha; Shri Rabindra Kumar Agarwal, Joint Secretary (Sagarmala),
Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India; Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Principal
Secretary, Dept. of Industries, Govt. of Odisha; Shri Sanjay Singh,
Chairman cum Director, IDCO; Shri Sanjay Rastogi, Principal
Secretary, Dept. of Commerce & Transport, Govt. of Odisha.
Shri A.P. Padhi in his address stated that being a maritime state
blessed with rich mineral resources and large industries, the State of
Odisha has a tremendous potential for development of coastal
shipping and inland waterways which are clean modes of transport
but have not attained their true potential. He further added that which is likely to be commissioned in 2018. Distribution of Emergency Lamps and Torchlights
Plantation Drive by PSS
Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti (PSS) launched a "Tree Plantation Drive"
in the locality in response to the growing substantial climate change
and sustainability challenges. Led by Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy,
President, Paradip Ladies club, Volunteers of PSS on 20.07.2017
planted various fruit bearing trees in the Maritime Museum Campus.
Shri UR Mohan Raju, Secretary, PPT, Shri P Tudu, Sr. Asst. Secretary,
PPT were present on the occasion.
Shri UR Mohan Raju, Secretary, PPT told that PSS has already
chalked out a plan to plant trees in the PPT High School and
Kendriya Vidyalaya campuses in coming weeks. He urged upon all
local schools to contact PSS for undertaking such plantation
programmes for which tree saplings will be provided free of cost by
Paradip Port Trust.
Inauguration of LED Street Lighting
Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti (PSS) has been focusing on ensuring safe
drinking water to prevent possible outbreak of waterborne diseases
in the local slums during this Rainy Season. Taking a step ahead, PSS
has distributed 55 Nos. of Water Filters manufactured by CIPET,
specially recognized for their durability and user-friendly features,
among the BPL Families of Bauriapalanda 30.07.2017 at PSS Office.
It is the second round of distribution as PSS has earlier distributed
water filters among the BPL families of Mundapda in Loknath Colony
on 16th July, 2017. Shri UR Mohan Raju, Secretary, PPT, Shri P
Tudu, Sr. Asst. Secretary, Smt. Preeti Aarati Parija, Member, Paradip
Ladies Club were present on the occasion. Shri Ashok Mohapatra,
Project Co-ordinator, PSS co-ordinated the event.
Water Filter Distribution by PSS
Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti (PSS) has been running Adult Education
Centres in various colonies in Paradip area for the benefit of old and
senior citizens to make them literate.
Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies club donated 3
Emergency Lamps and Torchlights for the benefits of these Centres in a
function organised on 06.07.2017 by PSS. Apart from these, slates,
notebooks, pens and pencils are also donated. Shri UR Mohan Raju,
Working Chairman, Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti, Shri Susil Chandra
Nahak, Dy. Chairman, Shri P Tudu, Secretary and Smt. Preeti Aarati
Parija, Member, Paradip Ladies Club were also present on the
occasion. PSS has been conducting various programmes for the
development of literacy movement in Paradip locality.
Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies Club inaugurated
the LED Street Lighting System on the road from Atharbanki to
Jawahar Guest House on 21.07.2017. Despite the road leading to
tourist hotspot like Mahanadi River Mouth and a commodity market
like Fishery Harbour, it used to remain dark. Lighting-up streets will
make the living environment of local people as well as travellers a
safer place and increase their sense of well-being. 160 LED Light
Posts have been erected with an estimated cost of Rs. 86 Laks. Shri
Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT, Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Dy. Chairman and
other senior officials of E&M Dept. of PPT were also present on the
occasion.
The Medical and the Marine Departments of Paradip Port Trust in
association with the Paradip Municipality and Paradip Sakshyrata
Samity have undertaken cleaning programmes at Mundapada and
Sandhakuda slums on 1st and 21st July, 2017 respectively in the
periphery of Paradip, under Swachh Bharat Campaign. The message
- "Our Cleanliness is the beauty of Mother India" was sent out to the
slum people. The Officials of the Medical and Marine department of
PPT, Officials of the Paradip Municipality and the lady volunteers of
the Paradip Sakshyrata Samiti, cleared the wild growth of vegetation,
cleaned the slum road and removed the roadside garbage. PPT has
made a year-long schedule to under take cleanliness in and around
Paradip area on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, by each
Department.
A Street Play named "Samadhan Ama Hatare" was performed by
local cultural organisation Canmass at Balijhara and Bhimasahi
Slums on 29.07.2017.

Human Resource DevelopmentParadip Port Trust organised a three days training programme on seminar. Ms. Madhu Gupta, Sr. Manger, NCTSR and Shri S.M.

As a part of capacity augmentation
under Sagarmala programme, an outer
harbour is proposed by PPT at an
estimated cost of ` 8764 Cr. to handle
large Cape size vessels up to 2 Lakh
DWT, up to 22 M draught and
expected to be operational in 2021.
Observation of World Population DayWorld Population Day 2017 was observed by Paradip Sakshyarata
Samiti (PSS) at Officer’s Club on 11.07.2017 to raise awareness on
global population issues, particularly their effects on development &
the environment and to further advocacy on safe and voluntary family
planning.
Dr. Prahallad Panda, CMO, PPT Hospital graced the occasion as
Chief Guest. The function was presided by Shri UR Mohan Raju,
Working Chairman, PSS, Shri R.R. Subbarao, Surveryor-in-Charge &
Trustee, PPT, Shri Susil Chandra Nahak, Dy. Chairman, PSS were
Guests of Honour. To mark the occasion, various competitions like
Quiz, Slogan, Debate competitions were held among the members of
local Mahila Samiti members and school children and the winners
were felicitated by Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies
club. Jagannath Colony UP School Teachers, who are doing service
to the BPL families were also felicitated on the occasion.
Paradip Port surges aheadParadip Port Trust, in the current financial year 2017-18 up to 31st The Port also handled 145 vessels in July 2017 as compared to 143

In the current financial year up to July 2017, Coking Coal traffic has
exhibited a growth of 9.83%. Similarly POL Traffic has increased by
42.69%, Iron Ore Traffic by 381.90%, and other Cargo traffic grew
by 12.60% compared to the same period of previous year. Paradip
Port has retained the second highest position in terms of Cargo
handled amongst all the major ports till the end of July 2017.
The average Berth-day output up to the month improved by 14.06%
over the corresponding period of previous year. The Port achieved
an output per ship berth day of 25593 MMT / day in July 2017 as
compared to 22,438 MMT / Day.
