WHATTHEYARE?Some pipelines deteriorate slowly, and in certaincasespipelinelifehasbeentargetedat70yearsormore. AnchorFlangesAnAnchor Flange is a device installed on a pipeline to combat axialmovements.Once it'sweldedtothepipeline,theanchorflangeiscommonlyanchoredintoaconcretefounda@on.Typicallyplacedontoa sec@onofpipelineas itmakesa turnor isatabridgecrossing, theanchorflangeisusedtopreventthepipelinefrommoving.AnAnchorFlange isan importantelement inmany thrust-control systems,especially thoseprotec@ng pipeline pumping sta@ons. Welded into the line and encased in concrete, itimmobilizes the pipe at predetermined loca@ons and transfer built-up stresses to externalstructures.Forexample,incross-countrypipelinesendforcesofconsiderablemagnitudearegenerated by internal pressure and temperature change.
