• In February 2009, asked public officials and emergency responders in 15 states to respond to public awareness survey via registered website.

• 362 completed surveys.– More than 2800 questions answered. – Seven questions posed.

• Highly favorable responses. • Based on the survey results, following

assumptions can be made. The majority:– Are aware of pipelines in their community.– Have received pipeline safety information

previously. – Are informed (either very well or somewhat)

about pipeline safety.

• Of the 5,700 stakeholders targeted through mailing– 10% registered via website (591)– 61% who went to website took survey– 6% of all stakeholders targeted through

mailing (362)

• Highly favorable responses

• The majority:– Prefer to receive written materials or e-mail

from us. Third choice: face-to-face meeting.– Know how to reach us via mailings, pipeline

markers or via National Pipeline Mapping System.

• Improvements can be made in promoting these industry resources.

• The majority: – Are not familiar with 811, the national call

before you dig number. – Are not aware of NPMS where they can

access interstate pipeline maps.
