S TEP BACK IN TIME and join us for an action-packed weekend of unique 1940s wartime events centred around the Isle of Man Steam Railway stations at Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin. Listen to the fabulous D-Day Darlings as they add an authentic sprinkle of wartime magic with their songs both on the platforms and at the evening dance.

Relive the amazing spirit and camaraderie of World War II and enjoy re-enactments, entertainment and vehicle displays along the line.

Ride the Steam Train to see the Spitfire crash site en route to Port Erin - can only be viewed from the train.

Experience the Home Guard’s military outpost at Douglas Station, the scout camp and field hospital at Castletown, and life on the Home Front at Port Erin. There is no better way to experience the period and bring your children’s history lessons to life!

DouglaS Station – Home guarD military outpoSt Douglas Station will be transformed into a military outpost from WWII with: • Drills, demonstrations and air-raid shelter by 1940s personnel from Isle of Man Home Guard

• The Isle of Man Scouts and the Air Training Corps will be running a fun Chinese Whispers competition between Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin stations to pass on top secret war messages

• Displays of WWII military vehicles

• The Manx Craft Guild will be in a marquee at the front of the Douglas Station

• A Travelling Post office (TPo) will be running between Douglas and Port Erin on both days and will be fully operational with facilities for posting letters to receive the special railway postmarks. Commemorative Island at War philatelic covers will be on sale bearing the Railway letter Stamp and cancelled on the train with the up or

down TPo postmarks

• A letter sorting competition will be run on each journey for young passengers to see how fast and accurately they can sort letters into the frame whilst on the move. There will be a prize for the winner

• The fabulous D-Day Darlings will be performing on Douglas Station on the Saturday at 11:00

• live outside broadcast with Manx Radio on Douglas Station from 10:30-12:30

and on Port Erin Station from 14:00 to 16:00

CaStletown Station - SCout Camp• Southern Scout troops will be at Castletown Station with a weekend wartime camp with Scouting skills, activities

and cooking demonstrations

• Southern Scout troops to set up a wartime field hospital with medics. ‘Casualties’ to be brought in by train and transferred to the hospital for treatment

• Display of commercial and classic vehicles.

• Internee exhibition and presentation by the Rushen Players

• True to their wartime remit, the Women’s Institute will be on hand with home made jams etc., hand knits and hand stitched goods, “including some pocket money presents”

• Royal British legion exhibitions to include paintings by James Fenton, Isle of Man Amateur Radio Society and all day refreshments

• Port Erin war exhibition in station ticket hall, including WW1 items and authentic collectables from Eagle Relics Militaria

• Army and air force cadets on parade

• Children’s 1940s games

• Sales of goods from grand houses

• There will be an exhibition of WWII weapons and vintage cars at the Port Erin Station

• The fabulous D-Day Darlings will be performing on Port Erin Station on Sunday at 11am

• Port St Mary Cabaret: Singing on the station platform on Saturday

WartIME at CrEGnEaSH

‘iSlanD in tHe great war’CregneaSH, SunDay 17 auguSt, 12:00 - 16.30

Take bus service number 28 (free for Island in the Great War ticket holders) from World War II at Port Erin to 30 years earlier and discover what life was like for Manx people during ‘The Great War’. Join a theatrical tour of the village as it brings to life stories of blacksmiths, agricultural workers, fishermen and others caught up in the national struggle. A recruiting parade will march through Cregneash and the call for volunteers will go out much as it would have done in 1914. Theatre Tours at 12:30, 14:30, 16:30 are bookable on the day, and have limited capacity.

Tickets: £6 Adult, £3 Child available from the Manx Museum Gallery Shop and www.manxnationalheritage.im in advance and Cregneash Ticket office and Port Erin Bridson Street on the afternoon of the event.
