Why Not Both?

The religion is ISLAM

• Islam means “to submit” or “submission”• Muslims are the followers of ISLAM

• There are three branches if Islam:– Sunni (about 80%) who adhere to “the sayings and

habits of Muhammad” – they follow the Sunnah– Shia (about 20%) who known as “the followers of Ali”

– who was the son-in-law of Muhammad.– Sufi (found in both above) are “the pure ones” or the

“people of the wool” referring to their garments.

There are 5 ‘pillars of faith’ in Islam

1. Creed - There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.

2. Prayers - 5 daily prayers while facing Mecca3. Fasting – During the ninth month (Ramadan)4. Zakat - almsgiving (2.5% is given weekly)5. Hajj – The pilgrimage to Mecca – to be made

at least once in every Muslim’s lifetime.

The Basis of Islam

• The Qur’an (also spelled Koran) – the revelation of the angel Gabriel given to Muhammad and taught in spoken form only until after his death.• The Hadith – the traditions and practices that

were followed by the Prophet Muhammad.• Shariah – the law system developed by the

interpretations of both the Qur’an and Hadith.

The Aim of Islam• World domination – by any means! It is a “jihad” against the world

of infidels (unbelievers). Jihad always means “bloody struggle”. The final outcome must be the strict implementation of Shariah Law!

• In the U.S.A. “The Muslim Brotherhood's object is to establish, initially, a separate society for Muslims within that of their host nations in which non-Muslims are the majority. This is accomplished by insinuating preferential arrangements for Muslims -- religious accommodations, their own legal code and courts (that is, Shariah), territorial 'no-go' zones, and assorted political benefits. Initially, these seem modest and unthreatening. Separate rules governing dress codes. Accommodations in public spaces for the practice of a single religion. Latitude to deny service or handling of certain products in deference to religious sensibilities. Organized labor contracts that substitute Muslim holy days for Labor Day, etcetera."

Islam is not new!

Does anyone here remember one of the greatest boxers of all time from back in the 1960s - Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr.?

He won six Kentucky Golden Glove titles, two National Golden Gloves, two Amateur Athletic Union championships, a Gold Medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Rome Olympics, and the world professional heavyweight championship -- three times. In 1999, he was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC.

You DON’T RECOGNIZE him?

You probably know him by his Muslim name - Mohammed Ali.Mohammed Ali.

Islam even older than that!Following the Revolutionary War, American commerce ships sailing in the open waters of the Mediterranean were being attacked and destroyed by Muslim pirates, led by the “Dey of Algiers,” the Islamic warlord ruler of Algiers. In 1784, the Continental Congress negotiated with the four Barbary States of North Africa (Morocco, Tripoli, Algiers and Tunis) in an effort to stop the piracy. At first, America paid protection money - $18,000 a year - to allow our ships to proceed unmolested by the pirates.

The tribute money did not resolve the problem.

Negotiating with Muslims failed!

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were dispatched to London in 1786 in an attempt to resolve the piracy issue. They met with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the “Dey of Algiers” ambassador to Britain.

When Jefferson asked the Muslim ambassador why Muslims held so much hostility towards America Mr. Adja stated : “Islam was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Qur’an, that all nations who should not have acknowled-ged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Muslim who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

Muslims had to be defeated!

Sound familiar? In 1786, diplomacy could not resolve piracy on the high seas due to the religious motivation of the pirates. The Naval Act of 1794 ordered the construction and manning of six frigates. These ships were used to end pirate activity off the Barbary Coast.

The United States Marines The United States Marines went to the “shores of Tripoli” in 1805 and ended the Muslim piracy!

The progression of Islam – stage 1

• When in the minority Muslims are a “peaceful” and gentle people.

• Sura 109:2-6 states: I do not worship what you worship… To you your way and to me my way.

• Sura 2:256 states: There is no compulsion in matters of faith…

The progression of Islam – stage 2

• As Muslims gain power they are consolatory and seem to be friendly toward others -

• Sura 3:28 states: Those who believe should not take unbelievers as their friends…unless it is to safeguard yourselves against them.

• Hadith traditions say that they can ‘smile in your face while cursing you to your back.’

The progression of Islam – stage 3

• When Muslims are the MAJORITY (or have gained power because of their influence)

they have a very different character –• Sura 47:35 states: … do not become weak-kneed

and sue for peace when you have the upper hand.

• Sura 9:29 states: Fight those people of the Book who do not believe… until all of them pay the Jaziyah (protection tax) in submission.

Remember the ‘law of abrogation’ • Sura 2:106 states: If We abrogate a verse or cause

it to be forgotten, We will replace it with a better one or one similar. Do you not know that God has power over all things?....

• Verses that were given later abrogate (annul) the verses given earlier. That’s why it’s difficult to study the Qur’an because the verses weren’t recorded in chronological order but in order of their length – longest to the shortest. Sura 2 was one of the last chapters given but the longest.

Christianity and Islam• Both are mutually exclusive:

Sura 5:17 says: Verily they are unbelievers who say: “The Messiah, son of Mary, is God.”

5:72 states: They are surely infidels who say: “God is the Christ, son of Mary.”….

Sura 8:38-39 says: You tell the unbelievers in case they desist whatever has happened will be forgiven them. If they persist, they should remember the fate of those who have gone before them. So fight them till all opposition ends, and obedience is wholly God’s.

Christianity and Islam are mutually exclusive:

• Jesus taught that He was the ONLY WAY to God and the Scriptures bear out this message over and over again - John 14:6; 12:47-48; Acts 4:12

• The Apostle Paul even warned all believers of the danger of hearing a message contrary to the gospel that was preached – “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” – Galatians 1:8

The Decision is yours!

• Love your enemies (Luke 6:27-36)Or

• Kill your enemies (Sura 9:29): Fight those people of the Book who do not believe…until

all of them pay the Jaziyah in submission.

Which option sounds like it comes from a loving, caring Heavenly Father?

Conclusion: There is one mediator between men and God, “the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).

He gave His life for ‘the world’ (John 3:16, 36) and He is the Savior of those who believe and obey His word (Mark 16:16; Eph 5:25).

Is your name written in His “Book of life”? (Revelation 20:15)

If not, why not?

The Word of God has the answer –read it, study it, obey it!
