Reports from 2011 PH Sessions
• 3rd year of establishing focused topics in Pulmonary Hypertension – Taking from lessons learned from previous
years:• Redirected focus of topics
– PH related to LHD, valvular disease, perioperative management
– RV: mechanism, evaluation, management of RV failure– PAH: latest developments, most relevant topics, take
home messages for clinicians
Reports from 2011 PH Sessions
• Great attendance and interest– Pre-meeting symposium
• What’s New in PAH (~120-140)
• Challenges in Lung Tranplantation (~150)
• CTEPH (~60)
– Main Meeting• Failing RV (>300)
• PH Complicating LV failure – sunrise (~120)
• Controversies in PH – currently being held
– Scientific Sessions• 2 oral Abstract presentations and 1 minioral – all very well attended
– Satellite CME Meeting• Basic science paired with clinical dilemmas on clinical applicability
of prostacycline ~ 90 in attendance.
PH Council Initiatives for 2012 Meeting
• Suggestions and Proposals under consideration– “Cross-fertilization” with other Councils sharing similar
interests• Pediatrics, Heart Failure, MCS
– Partnership with Junior Council to involve junior faculty in PH
– Expand the focus on Right Ventricle– “Pair” basic scientists with clinicians to discuss a
focused theme

• Measures to increase abstract submissions– 2011: 46– 2010: 33– 2009: 50– 2008: 13– 2007: 24
• Continue to build and strengthen industry support– Marked interest in supporting ISHLT for upcoming
meetings expressed

• Standard and Guideline Workforce – ISHLT endorsement of ESC PH Guidelines published– “White Paper” on RV failure almost completed

being evaluated• Communications Workforce
– Submissions to ISHLT Link– Email blasts to council members

• Spread PH related topics throughout the meeting• Integrate different themes and presentations -
case based/didactic discussion, pro/con, basic science/clinical management
– Collaborate with the Programs Committee in formulating logistics of placement of symposiums
