Community Service at the Food Bank, March 30th

On March 30, 2013, ISFFA participated in the Hunger Fight drive of The Ascend LA Metro Chapter that was held at the Los Angeles Re-

gional Food Bank. Together with other organizations and individual volunteers, we helped in assembling food packages for over 23,000

low income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County. The food packages consist of food items like canned fruit,

canned vegetables, rice, cereal and other non-perishable food items.

“This is my first time to join the community service at ISFFA. Indeed, volunteering at the food bank was a fun and fulfilling experience. All

volunteers were grouped into different assembly sections that facilitated the efficient packing of the food items. Each volunteer had a

specific role to play such as putting specific type of food items inside the bag, lifting the packed bag into the container, and arranging the

used cardboards. As I looked around, I noticed that the volunteers were enjoying the moment, maybe because they felt fulfilled in sharing

their time or they’re just having fun doing the community work while chatting with the other volunteers, or both”, commented by Lance

Leal, ISFFA Student Vice President for Social Events.

ISFFA is always looking forward to doing another community service. For those who are interested to join us in our future community ser-

vice events, please email Al Ocampo at [email protected] or Lance Leal at [email protected].

Induction of “We are One Filipino” (WAOF) Officers, April 22nd

The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles (PCG”) had called upon the youth and ISFFA was one of the organizations who respond-

ed to such call. WAOF is an organization initiated and endorsed by the PCG to empower and provide voice to the younger Filipino genera-

tion so they can make a difference in the community. WAOF is comprised of energetic young Filipino professionals and students of differ-

ent backgrounds and experiences. ISFFA played a critical role in the formation and conceptualization of this organization and this role will

continue as ISFFA has 3 representatives currently in the WAOF Board, namely: Pamela Irineo (ISFFA Secretary and WAOF Treasurer), Rey

Puentenegra (ISFFA Member and WAOF Treasurer) and Lorenzo Moran (ISFFA VP for Student Affairs and WAOF Auditor).

Succession Planning and SPEED Mentoring, April 27th

On April 27, 2013, ISFFA held back-to-back workshops. In the morning, ISFFA, in cooperation with Robert Half, conducted the Succession

Planning workshop which dealt on the emerging issue of developing future leaders. In the afternoon, ISFFA held the second phase of its

SPEED mentoring (patterned after the speed-dating model) where mentees got the chance to have discussions with all mentors present

and decide who among them they want to be their mentor. It was definitely a day filled with networking and informational discussions.

ISFFA definitely left a clear mark at the Kalayaan 2013 being the “greenest” team during the event. More than thirty (30) ISFFA officers,
