What is ISDN

An ISDN is a network that provides end to end digital

connectivity to support a wide range of services

including voice and non voice services to which users

have access by a limited set of standard ,

multipurpose user network interfaces. In ISDN all the

three services (voice, data, image) are transmitted

simultaneously on a single pair of wires. Network is a communication carrying system

including media, switching points and proper routing.

Networks fallow certain protocols for transmission.

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

CORAL FLEXICOM 6000

CONSTRUCTION: -

Coral Flexicom 6000 is consists of one maincabinet, which houses the Coral Flexicom6000 control shelf and two or three peripheralshelves.

A maximum of three expansion cabinets,consisting of only peripheral shelves made isconnected to main cabinet.

control shelf is located at bottom of main cabinet and

houses all the control cards .

PSATS ( POWER SUPPLY CARD )

The Coral Flexicom 6000 stand by Dual Control

includes two set of Control Hardware ,and each is

able to fully and independently control the operationof entire function.

Switching matrix and User database is stored in

battery protected SRAM on both the Control Card.

Operating software is stored on CFDC (Compact

Flash Memory ) on both the control card sets.

All the system generated data is stored in Active ControlSet.

Mirrored memory snoop: Memory in Active Control Set isduplicated in stand by control set.

This Technique is responsible for Unnoticed Change overfrom Active to stand by.

When Control Set Fails, an alarm is given to themaintenance Console and changeover takes place to standbycontrol set. Calls are not interrupted.

Common Control of Coral System provides the control

mechanism for establishing Audio and Data Connection orcalls via PCM BUS between Peripherals I/O ports in thesystem.

Each standard Common Control Card set includes a MCP-

ATS ,32 GC and Power Supply Card (PS-ATS)

(b) Ringer Power Supply Card (RPS):-

The Ringer Power Supply Card (RPS) provides ahigh voltage generator current required by single lineTelephone Station Ports of 24 SLS. RPS operates froma nominal input of -48v DC.

The RPS contains a low frequency oscillator and poweramplifier ,which convert the -48v DC input power to75v, 85v and 105v AC (16,20and 25HZ) for use as aRinging and message waiting Signal.

TROUBLESHOOTING

LOCALIZATION OF FAULT :

Fault can be localized by moving step by step starting from

field side to equipment side

1. Check the instrument if any problem is with connectors RJ

11, RJ 8 or if instrument is faulty by replacing with workinginstrument .

2. Check the voltage at IDF as it should be 48 v. If

this is ok then problem may be in between IDF and

instrument. Check for continuity test of cable.3. If their is no voltage at IDF then check voltage at

MDF, it should be 48 v. If it is ok then recrone the

jumper cable at IDF. If their is no voltage at MDF

then the problem is on equipment side.

POWER SUPPLY

Normal required voltage is -48v DC.

System can work in range of -42v to-63v DC.current- 3A Per shelf or 12A Per cabinet

This exchange requires 40A current.

There are 2 battery bank of 48 volt dc and they are

manually changed over after every 12 Hrs.

Maintenance

The Coral Flexi Com 5000 is a maintenance free system.

It requires proper cooling and dusting for uninterruptedtelecommunications service.

Check the battery voltage and charger output voltage

Cleaning of equipment rooms with vacuum cleaner Testing of all the trunk circuit

Alarm checking

Check the room temperature

Check working of lights, air condition

While preparing this project report I observed

that Coral Flexi Com is a maintenance free

electronic exchange. It provides a continuous telecommunication

service.

Only we have to maintain its power plant.

CONCLUSION

In south western railway , Coral Flexicom exchangesare fast replacing the older exchanges like Siemensomni, CDOT etc. The Coral exchange can be usedin three ways.

It is used as main Exchange (CORAL FLEXICOM6000)

It can be used as Remote Location Unit (RLU)

It is used as intercom (coral flexi 400). In intercominstead of FLMM or FLSI Card, MEX and HDC cardis employed.

CONCLUSION

ISDN Coral Flexicom6000 ports Exchange provides manyfeatures and utilities. This Exchange is very quickly replacingCDOT Exchange, OKI Exchange, Siemens Omni, etc. It is

proving to be a boon to Indian Railways because of its

flexibility. By implementing this Exchange, Indian Railwayhas successfully achieved its goal of faster accessibility, withits subscribers and quicker connectivity between thesubscribers. This system is mostly hasslefree and does notrequire elaborate maintenance, thereby proving to beeconomical

I hope every Zone and every Division in Indian Railwayincorporates this Exchange to ensure faster growth anddevelopment.
