PEACE CORPS INFO SESSION
ISBA Newsletter 11/30/2011
In Honor of World AIDS Day Thursday, December 1st
7:00 PM
1117UCC
Come and hear what Volunteers are doing in the field to combat HIV/AIDs by
a panel of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers!
One of the most serious global threats to public health is the spread of
HIV/AIDS. Peace Corps volunteers worldwide teach classes in HIV
prevention, educate at-risk populations, and develop community support for children orphaned by AIDS. Other
HIV/AIDS awareness projects include encouraging communities to adopt
healthy behaviors, training peer educators, and supporting health
clinics. Today, 22 percent of Peace Corps volunteers work specifically in
the health/HIV sector. Serving in 77 countries, Peace Corps Volunteers live, learn, and work with a
community for 27 months. Attend a Peace Corps Information Session to
hear returned volunteers' stories, see a video highlighting volunteers in service, find out about the application process
and the benefits of Peace Corps service, including paid living expenses, full health/dental coverage, graduate school programs with credit/financial assistance, a $7,425 allowance upon completion and valuable international
development/cross-cultural skills.
