    0. FOREWORD0.1 This Indian Standard ( First Revision ) was adopted by the IndianStandards Institution on 15 March 1974, after the draft finalized by theFire Fighting Sectional Committee had been approved by the CivilEngineering Division Council.0.2 As one of the important items of first-aid fire fighting equipment, fire buckets have t o conform to certain essential requirements in regard toshape, design, construction and finish. This standard has been preparedwith a view to providing guidance both in manufacture and purchase ofgalvanized mild steel fire bucket of proper design and construction. Thisstandard was published in the year 1963. This first revision has beenprepared to incorporate the revised design of bucket as recommended byOrdnance Factory, Dum Dum.0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accord-ance with IS : Z-1960*. The number of significant places retained in therounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in thisstandard.

    1. SCOPE1.1 This standard lays down the requirements regarding material, dimen-sions, manufacture, finish and tests of galvanized mild steel fire bucketof 10 litres nominal capacity.2. MATERIAL2.1 Mild Steel Black Sheets- Mild steel black sheets used for themanufacture of buckets shall conform to Grade St 34 or Grade St 42 ofIS : 1079-1968t.

Should any air bubble be seen escaping through the water, thebucket shall be considered to have failed the test.7. INSPECTION AND MANUFACTURERS CERTIFICATE7.1 The purchaser or his representative shall, if desired, be grantedfacilities for inspection of finished goods prior to despatch at the manu-facturers works.8. SCALE OF SAMPLING AND CRITERION FOR CONFORMITY8.1 Lot - In any consignment, all the buckets from the same batch ofmanufacture shall be grouped together to constitute a lot.8.2 Sample Size- The number of buckets to be selected from the lot shalldepend on the size of the lot and shall be in accordance with co1 (1) and (2)of Table 2. These buckets shail be selected at random from at least10 percent of the packages subject to a minimum of 3; equal number ofbuckets being selected from each such package. If the number of packagesis less than 3, buckets from all the packages shall be selected.

IS : 2546 - 19748.3 Number of Tests-All the buckets selected as in 8.2 shall be inspect-ed for shape and dimensions ( see 3 ), manufacturing defects ( see 4 ) andfinish ( see 5 ) and tested for leakage ( see 6 ). Any bucket which fails tosatisfy the requirement of any one or more of the characteristics shall beconsidered as defective bucket.8.4 Criterion for Conformity - The lot shall be considered as con-forming to the requirements of this standard if the number of defectivebuckets among those inspected does not exceed the corresponding numbergiven in co1 (3) of Table 2; otherwise it shall be considered as not con-forming to the requirements of the standard.9. MARKING AND PACKING9.1 Each bucket shall be stamped or embossed on its side with the manu-facturers name or trade-mark, year of manufacture and its capacity.Embossing shall be sufficiently deep so that the marking remains quitelegible after galvanizing.

9.1.1 The fire bucket may also be marked with the IS1 CertificationMark.NOTE The use of the IS1 Certification Mark is governed by the provisions of theIndian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act and the Rules and Regulationsmade thereunder. The IS1 Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveysthe assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of thatstandard under a well-defined system of inspection, testing and quality control whichis devised and supervised by iSI and operated by the producer. IS1 marked productsare also continuously checked by ISI for conformity to that standard as a furthersafeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the IS1 Certifica-tion Mark may be granted to manufacturers or processors, may be obtained from theIndian Standards Institution.

9.2 Buckets shall be suitably packed as required by the purchaser.
