When did you become an entrepreneur? Did it start with a lemonade stand, did you have your own paper route or were you the one who bought a big bag of candy and sold each piece at school marked up 20%? What made you decide to do it? Probably Mom and Dad told you that in order to get that new game or bike you have to earn the money yourself. Then it becomes a question of time.

Ok, that’s 50 cents (showing my age a little) a day for my chores and I need a bike in 2 weeks. The cost of the bike doesn’t matter…making 50 cents a day for 2 weeks won’t even buy the tires right! So how do you speed up the money making process?

Ask for a raise…that means Mom and Dad are going to give me more work…no good, cuts down on my play time. At 10 years old play time is way more important than working…don’t lose that mindset! Then the ah-ha moment happens…no matter if your 10 or 45.

We all have it. You just have to ask yourself where it went. Just think back when you were a kid, everything seemed possible…if you wanted something you would find a way if needed.

Now let me tell you about one the proudest daddy moments I’ve experienced with my daughter Sage, who is 10 yrs old. She makes rubber band bracelets and everyday she would come home and say how everyone wants her to make them a bracelet, or two. She was making quite a few (and going through her rubber band supply). These rubber bands aren’t the kind you go buy at the office

supply store, they are special, lots of pretty colors and a pretty price tag to match. Anyway, she realized she needed to restock her supply and that selling her bracelets (not at school) would be the ticket… she could make extra money! Everybody loves these bracelets; even mommy and daddy wear them.

Her grandma has “open houses” for the jewelry she makes and Sage asked her about selling her own bracelets at the upcoming open house. Well, grandma gave her some prime real estate at the open house and she killed it...she had a great day. She was asked what she was going to buy with the money she earned and her answer was “rubber bands, to make more bracelets to sell”.

Needless to say, after counting her money Sage is hooked and Grandma is having another “open house” for the holidays this weekend. Sage can’t wait to get busy and stock up her table.

Being an entrepreneur really is simple…even my 10 yr old daughter gets it!
