A revised MLK organization that is nonpartisan and seeks to build a moral agenda rooted in a framework that uplifts the deepest moral and constitutional values to redeem the heart and soul of this country. Through this revelation is a challenge to the position that the preeminent moral issues are not just prayer in public schools, abortion, and property rights. Instead, they challenge the church to declare that the moral public concerns of faith traditions are how society treats the poor, women, children, workers, immigrants, communities of color, and the sick. The intent of many of the messages of Dr. William Barber are about the moral traditions that point to equal protection under the law, the desire for peace within and among nations, the dignity of all people, and the responsibility to care for others. My concern is where’s the church in this resurging of the care for the least of these? Are we so far off the mark that those outside of the Arc of Safety have decided to look elsewhere for resolution to their sufferings? Have we not fed enough of the hungry; clothes enough of the naked; visited many while in prison; went by numerous homes of the sick; where have we gone wrong? Well the church has not gone to sleep on the responsibility that Christ left for us to do. What we possible could be guilty of is our lack of enthusiasm for the work of Christ. Our assignments are not to be laborious tasks. Just like our giving, it should be cheerfully. There should be zeal in our service to the least of these. Our giving, our feeding, our visiting, and our clothing should be with a desire to please the Lord and not try to surpass the work of others. We have an awesome God. We should be glad that our God is full of mercy and compassion? A God who will never ask us to do anything, unless He is willing to empower us to do it. Our God will not give us a command, and then say, "you’re on your own”. This may be our wakeup call to be about our Father’s business. Remember the Lord had arranged for a great fish to swallow Jonah. This was God’s wake up call for Jonah. THE CAPSTONE E-NEWSLETTER SHILOH BAPTIST CHURCH NEW SITE AUGUST 2019 EDITION BY ANGELA B. Repairers of the Breach. A revised MLK organization that is nonpartisan and seeks to build a moral agenda rooted in a framework that uplifts the deepest moral and

constitutional values to redeem the heart and soul of this country. Through this revelation is a challenge to the position that the preeminent moral issues

are not just prayer in public schools, abortion, and property rights. Instead, they challenge the church to declare that the moral public concerns of faith traditions are

how society treats the poor, women, children, workers, immigrants, communities of color, and the sick.

The intent of many of the messages of Dr. William Barber are about the moral traditions that point to equal protection under the law, the desire for peace within and

among nations, the dignity of all people, and the responsibility to care for others. My concern is where’s the church in this resurging of the care for the least of these?

Are we so far off the mark that those outside of the Arc of Safety have decided to look

elsewhere for resolution to their sufferings? Have we not fed enough of the hungry; clothes enough of the naked; visited many while in prison; went by numerous homes

of the sick; where have we gone wrong? Well the church has not gone to sleep on the responsibility that Christ left for us to do.

What we possible could be guilty of is our lack of enthusiasm for the work of Christ. Our assignments are not to be laborious tasks. Just like our giving, it should be

cheerfully. There should be zeal in our service to the least of these. Our giving, our feeding, our visiting, and our clothing should be with a desire to please the Lord and

Is this our wakeup call? Cont.

Sometimes God gives us a wake-up call. Sometimes He has to shake us a little. Sometimes He has to give us a nudge, to get us back on track. Sometimes He tells us

to get out of our comfort zone. This may be the Lord using Rev. Barber as our wake up call. The Lord wants us to

renew our spirits. In the spiritual life there are times when we lose our spiritual vitality. When that occurs, we must renew our relationship with The Lord. This needs to be a

regular part of our spiritual life. Whatever it takes to renew our spiritual life is in order. It could be a devotional

passage. It could be a sermon. It could be a crisis. It could be a word from another

believer. The means is not the issue. The issue is: when God speaks to us about renewal and rededication, will we listen or will we leave it up to Rev. Barber and

others.

The Women’s Ministry sponsored a trip to New York for all the ladies of Shiloh Baptist Church New Site, on July 31-August 1, 2019. Eighteen ladies were able to go on the trip. The group rode a chartered Go Bus that left from the Fairfax/Vienna Metro Station on Wednesday, July 1. Once arriving in New York, they stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel located at 326 West 37th Street, New York, New York. The accommodations were very nice, and the hotel staff was excellent. The ladies enjoyed lunch at Chen Yu, a Chinese restaurant before having the opportunity to go shopping at the Macy’s store located on 34th Street. Later that night, they attended the play, “Ain’t Too Proud’, about the life of the Temptations at the Imperial Theatre. The following day the ladies were able to do some shopping and sight- seeing in the city. Some of the ladies went to the One World Trade Center where they were able to go inside the One World Observatory. They were able to go up 102 floors to see a 3-D panoramic view of the city. They were also able to walk across the street to visit the 911 Memorial sight which is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed 2,996 people. Another group of ladies went to see the Statue of Liberty which is located on Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty is a historical landmark and has been on Liberty Island since 1886. It is visited by over 4 million people every year. The statue serves as a representative of democracy during wartime and as an icon that represents equality and immigration. It also represents the friendship between the United States and France. The final group went to Tiffany’s which is an American luxury jewelry and specialty retailer that is headquartered in New York. The store sells jewelry, sterling silver, china, crystal, stationery, fragrances, watches and other items. The ladies truly enjoyed their shopping experience and purchased lots of goodies to bring home! The ladies departed New York at 5:30 PM and arrived back to Virginia at 9:30 PM on August 1. Everyone truly had a wonderful time and enjoyed our time spent together in the city! Thank you to Brother James Marlowe for providing transportation to the bus stop. He always does an excellent job driving our church bus and we certainly appreciate him. Please enjoy all the pictures of the New York fellowship submitted by various ladies that participated in the trip.

We presented a two-hundred-dollar check for foreign missions and we gave a report on our community outreach projects.

On July 24, the Junior Missionary visited The Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. The museum uses cutting-edge technology to narrate the history of the bible. We saw an exhibit of the slave bible. We also saw another exhibit called "The Tapestry of Light" which was a glow-in-the-dark tapestry of the book of Revelation.

On August 24, the Junior Missionary met in building 3 to discuss tips to eliminate school stress. It was led by Dea. Eloise Chambers and Sis. Jackie Bass-Fortune. We talked about things that causes stress such as grades, peer pressure, school safety, dating, sports, maintaining good health, and social media. Then we discussed what the bible states about anxiety, worry, and trouble which are associated with stress. Some of the scriptures we focused on were:

Day of Healing: Honoring the First Africans who Landed in Virginia August 25, 1619

Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) joined with Fredericksburg local churches on August 25th to participate in a Day of Healing to honor the first Africans who landed in 1619 and to commemorate 400 years of African American History. The 400th Commemoration began with a service of recognition at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), in which members of the local churches gathered together in the spirit of healing and unity. The service acknowledged the centuries of atrocity that was brought to African Americans with the arrival of the first ship in August 1619 at Virginia’s Point Comfort, what is now part of Ft Monroe National Monument It also demonstrated a desire for healing and reconciliation by all who participated, as the congregation sang songs of hope and healing. There were prayers, scriptures, spirituals, remarks and the singing of “We Shall Overcome.” Following the service, members returned to their respective churches to ring their bell. Several of our members gathered to commemorate the occasion. As our bell rang, we could hear the others also. It was a sentimental chorus of remembrance and healing. Pastor Parrish described “standing while the bell rings”, as a significant moment while we stood together with joy, honor, and gratitude to God for having brought us, as a people, through 400 years of African American History to a point where people of all colors can now join together in the spirit of healing and unity. Our bell ringers were Deacon Frank Hawthorne, Trustee James Marlowe and Brother Van Collier. Since the bell had not been assembled since the steeple was redone in 1997, it had to be readied for the occasion. A special warm and heartfelt thanks to them for toiling behind-the-scenes to make it possible for Shiloh New Site to be able to participate in this historical event. We love you!

On August 25, 1619 twenty or more Africans, believed to be from the present-day Angola, were captives on an English ship, the White Lion. The ship landed in the Chesapeake Bay at what is the present Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia. They were traded for food and supplies. President Barack Obama declared Fort Monroe a National Monument in 2011, in part because he said that is where the first Africans came ashore in North America.

This is the marker at the site.
