New Parish Directory is Under Construction

This weekend after all the Masses, the Directory

Committee will be in Grotto Hall to schedule your

appointment for the photo session; it would be helpful

if you bring the signup sheet with you, to save time.

The Directory company needs the September appoint-

ments to be filled before making October appoint-

ments. Sign-ups will also be taken after the Grotto

Dedication, during the Ice Cream Social on August 14

in the school gym.

You can drop your signup sheet in

the collection basket, mail it to the church

office, or call Chris Sullivan at 570-265-

8354 to set up the appointment on the day

and time you prefer.

It is most important that every parishioner be

included with updated information in this new edition.

Thank you for your participation.

A church parishioner is in need of child care in their home for an eighteen-month old during school hours,

8 am to 3 pm for two days a week. Please call the following number (270-929-0772) for more information.

installation of the parish’s Grotto of Our Lady of

Lourdes, located between the parish rectory and the

After 11 a.m. Mass next Sunday, Father Ed

will lead a procession to the Grotto, reciting a Litany

to Our Lady. The Grotto will then be re-dedicated

and blessed. Parishioners, friends and neighbors are

invited to celebrate with us, and afterward to enjoy

the ice cream social on the grounds. Hot dogs,

drinks, and varieties of ice cream and toppings will

be served. If weather is disagreeable, we will move

inside the school building.

Lourdes Movie on Monday, August 15

The story of Our Lady of Lourdes as she appeared to

The Year of Mercy Offers an Opportunity to Bring Healing in the Area of Failed Marriages:

After suffering a broken marriage, Catholics may be unclear about their relationship to the Church.

· “I am civilly divorced and not sure whether I can continue to receive the Eucharist or be a part of the par-

ish community.”

· “I am not sure about the status of my marriage. It would be helpful to talk to someone who could explain

it to me.”

· “My spouse and I would like to explore having our marriage blessed in the Church.”

· “I don’t know what an annulment really is and why I would want one. Also, I heard they are expensive.”

Do any of these voices sound like you or someone you know? In the Diocese of Scranton, the annulment pro-

cess is now more “user friendly” than you might expect, and there is no longer a processing fee. Please contact

your pastor or the Diocesan Tribunal Office (570-207-2246) to begin a conversation. It is possible to get clear

answers to these questions and to renew your connection with the Church.

Message from the Diocesan Tribunal Office

The Tribunal Office, in collaboration with the Office for Parish Life, is working on some ways to reach out to

persons who might benefit from learning more about the Church’s annulment process. We hope to soon offer

a bulletin insert to be utilized to facilitate some gatherings for information and support on this topic. A book

which might be helpful in your parish library is: Lorene Hanley Duquin "Seeking an Annulment with the Help

of Your Catholic Faith" (OSV, $5.95). We are ordering several copies of this book – Fr. Ed

Year of Mercy Parish Pilgrimage to Cathedral from Towanda—September 24

When Pope Francis opened the Doors of Mercy in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome,

he also proclaimed that designated cathedrals throughout the world would also

open their doors of mercy. By passing through those doors, along with receiving

the sacraments and praying in a designated way, an indulgence* may be gained

for oneself or someone else.

In an effort to allow pilgrims from all over the Diocese to enter the Holy Door and experience the mer-

cy of God, Bishop Bambera, at he Cathedral of Saint Peter in Scranton, has designated several Saturdays

throughout the Year of Mercy for parishes to make a pilgrimage. We have selected Saturday, September 24,

2016, for our parish pilgrimage. From 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the pilgrimage begins with Morning Prayer

and a brief presentation on the Jubilee Year of Mercy, followed by opportunities for confession and private

prayer, both in the Cathedral and the Cathedral Prayer Garden. Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 p.m., fol-

lowed by a tour of the Cathedral. Lunch will be provided in the Diocesan Pastoral Center. Cost for the pil-

grimage is $10 per person to cover the cost of lunch.

Please consider making a pilgrimage to the beautiful and venerable mother church of the Diocese

during this Year of Mercy, and embrace the tender compassion of God.

*An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already

been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions..

. . Indulgences may be applied to the living or the dead.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1471).

Sign up now for the Parish Pilgrimage so that we can arrange transportation to Scranton. Call the office

570-265-2113 or email [email protected]; leave your name, phone number, and how many would like to attend.

If enough people sign up, we would consider chartering a bus. The $10 payment will be due by August 21,

because the Diocese needs to know the number who will attend. (check to SS Peter & Paul Church).

Word of Life

“Perhaps one of your friends has become pregnant unexpectedly. As someone who has been there, I encour-

age you to support your friend in her new journey of being a mother. . . . Your support might be the only sup-

port she receives.”

Special Person – Special Anniversaries

On July 16th, Bishop Timlin marked his 65th anniversary of priestly ordination and on September 21st,

he will join the ranks of only a very few number of bishops in our Episcopal conference and beyond to cele-

brate his 40th anniversary of episcopal ordination. As a parish and as a diocese, we are thankful for Bishop

Timlin’s commitment to God and to the Diocese of Scranton.

Several cards are at the entrance to the church if you care to sign one of them.

Listed below is Bishop Timlin’s address for those wishing to send an individual card. Please keep Bishop

Timlin in your prayers of thanksgiving.

presses his thanks to all in the parish and for your generosity to the missions. He will keep our parish in his

prayers as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary. Parish contributions to the missions totaled close to $2,000

dollars. Thank you for your assistance and generosity to missions. Visit http://mission4poor.ive.org/ for more

information about their missionary work all over the world.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary

This year this solemnity is not a holy day of obligation; however, to give parishioners an opportunity to attend

Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin we will have Masses at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. After the 5:30 pm Mass

there will be some food provided in Grotto Hall and the showing of the movie The Song of Bernadette. The

movie is in conjunction with our 175th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of our grotto.

Many Thanks

Once again, SS. Peter and Paul Parish was well represented at the pro-life booth at the annual Troy Fair. Nine

ladies gave 40 hours of their time for the unborn; also, three men served a total of 14 hours, and one grand-

child served for 4 hours. The Bradford County Chapter Of Pennsylvanians For Human Life thank every one

who participated in this important effort on behalf of the unborn.

Troy Fair Pro-Life Coordinators

Two members of SS Peter & Paul Parish have dedicated countless hours to coordinating and working at the

Troy Fair Pro-Life Booth, over the course of many years. The parish is grateful to John and Mary Alice

Demangone for this labor of love on behalf of the unborn. God only knows how many lives were saved

through their public witness to, and providing information about, the sanctity of life, Thank you, John and

Mary Alice, and may God bless you as you retire from this particular ministry and hand on this special

mission to another generation.
