With technology constantly developing, we are now able to train staff with a click of a button, but is this the future of training? Online learning was first introduced to businesses in the early 2000’s, which enabled employees to improve upon their industry knowledge base and expand their skill set. The continual development of these courses means they are becoming more interactive, educational, and a great platform to reach everyone in your organisation. Effective preparedness is key to ensure a fast response to incidents, but there can be a high cost for this, particularly in time needed for training. Now with the availability of online learning, companies can save valuable time and money. Instead of staff having to assign days out of the office for classroom or site based training, they can be set a course by their manager, that can then be completed by the employee when convenient. There are some disadvantages with online learning, one being that you won’t get assistance from a trainer in the classroom or benefit from the real-life experiences they may be able to share. Having a subject matter expert teach you face to face can really enhance your training experience, and they are able to give you any support needed. However, with the constant development and progression of online learning, there are now message boards where you can contact a trainer if needed. Keep the trainers You can’t and obviously don’t want to completely eliminate classroom based training, and some courses will require you to attend in person. However, we can now use the developing E- Learning technology more widely to improve employee knowledge and awareness, to ensure that companies are fully prepared in a more cost effective way. Flexible Learning Save Valuable Time and Money Easily available It is a very flexible form of learning, that can be picked up by learners as and when suitable for them. Due to busy schedules, it can sometimes be hard to find the time to attend courses in person. Now, many online courses have the ability to save your progress and continue later, to make it even easier to complete when you have the time. Most courses can also be viewed on both desktop and tablet view, making it even more accessible to the learners. You are therefore able to pick up the course anywhere you are in the world, as long as you have an internet connection. This is very handy for people who may travel, or who are not always based in an office or at a desk. E-learning is a part of the future, along with classroom based training. Together you will achieve a good balance of knowledge, skill, personal experience, and a good understanding of the subject. Manageable and bespoke Online course are very easy to manage and keep track of. Often, managers have their own portal where they can view, chase, and monitor the progress of their learners on courses. Some courses also have an exam at the end, so that managers can see that they are retaining the information taught, and have a record of their score. You are also able to contact developers and make / adapt courses to be more suitable and functional for your company. Through this, you can add real life examples and make it company bespoke to benefit the learners even more.
