Case Study 1 Surething Insurance: The Disempowered CIO Root cause in this case is lack of confidence ,learning abilities and lack of leadership skills in an employee. A1 should be confident enough in what is suggesting to line management. In this case , it clearly explaining root cause that he didn’t understand systems in organization even after completing 2 yrs in role,subordinates not listening to A1 explaining that lack of leadership skills and decision making skills. Status quo solution for this is, coordination between business units will be worse which will lead to loss situation for company and also wrong projects will be taken by business units like COBOL development project. Minimum solution is that executive committee should support A1 regarding COBOL project which is Non Standard and also CEO should grant permission for research so that employee can build some confidence in him which is root problem in case. A1 felt that he’s accountable without having any authority, so A1 should be given authority in order to perform his job best.

Recommendations are top management should give some training in order to develop leader ship skills and also A1 should improve in taking initiatives like other colleagues in organization. A1 should be given authority and accountable to particular business unit so that he can able to perform well in taking decisions and intiatives.
