Till, standard was first published in 1971 . Thi s revisi on has been taken up 10 update the referred standards. Th i-,standard deals with the requirements for bicy cle mudguards and is one of a series of Indian Standards on bicycleand their parts and accessoncs.

The composition of the Committee responsible for the formulation of this standard is given in Annex A.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement o f this standard is compl ied with, the final value.observed or ca lc ulated . expressing the result of a test, sha ll he rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ' R ulesfor rounding off numerical values ireviscdv, The number o f significant places retained in the rounded off valueshould he the same as that of the spec ified value in this standard .

BICYCLE - MUDGUARDS - SPECIFICATION

( First Revision)

I SCOPE

This standard speci fies the requirements for bicyclefront and rear mudguards suitable for popu lar sizes ofbicycles.

2 REFERENCES

The: following standards contain provisions. whi chthrough reference in this text . constitute: provisions ofthis standard. At the time of publication, the editionsindicated were valid. All standards are subject torevision and parties to agreements based on thisstandard are encouraged to investigate the poss ibilityof applying the most recent editions of the standardsindicated below:

4 MANUFACTURE. WORKMANSHIP ANI>FINISH

4.1 The mudguards shall he not less than 50 mm wideand not less than 18mm deep and shal I bemanufacturedfrom steel strip not less than 0.45 mm thickness.

4.2 The mudguards shall he free from rnanufacruringdefects. These shall be thoroughly cleaned so as to befree from rust. scale and oily substances and shall thenbe chemically phosphate and stove enamelled, spraypainted or otherwise finished (0 give a glossy fin ish ,

4.31lle painted parts shall be free from wrinkles. blisters.unevenness. scratch marks and other injurious defects.

5 TESTS

The mudguards shall he manufactured from steel stripconforming to IS 513 .

3 MATERIALS

5.1 A solid steel ball measuring 13 mm in diametershall bedropped from a height of 1,5 11l on any paintedportion of the mudguard. The pamt at the place wherethe steel ball strikes the frame shall stand .-. the impactwithout showing any sign of crack or peeling oil.

5.2 The mudguard shall be kept dipped for an hour III

a 5 percent common salt solution at the temperaturespecified below. The paint shall not soften. peel ofTorshow any change in colour:

a) Black enamel paint ROQC, and

b) Other enamel paints 6O"C,

5.3 The warping of the mudguards shall lie within thelimits indicated in Fig. I .

6 MARKING

6.1 The mudguards shall be marked with the manu­facturer 's name or trade-mark. The year of manufactureshall also be marked, if required by the purchaser.

6.2 HIS Certification Marking

The mudguards may also be marked with the StandardMark.

6.2.1 The use of the Standard Mark is governed by theprovision s of the Bureau ofIndian Standards Act. 1986and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. Thedetails of conditions under which the licence for theuse of the Standard Mark may be granted to themanufacturers or producers may be obtained from theBureau of Indian Standards.

7 SAMPLING

7.1 Unless otherwise agreed to between the supplier

and the purchaser, the procedure as given in IS 2500(Part I) shall be followed for sampling inspection. Th e

inspectio n level and sampling plan as given in 5.1.1to 5.1.4 shall be followed.

7.1.1 The scale of sampling for dimensional and visualcharacteristics shall be corresponding to the inspectionlevel III as given in Table I of IS 2500 (Part I ) and the

sampling plan to be followed shall be correspondingto acceptable quality limit (AQL) value of 4 percent

given in Table 2 of IS 2500 (Part I).

7.1.2 The scale of sampling for the tests given in 5

shall be corresponding to inspection level I given inTable 1 ofIS 2500 (Part I) and the sampling plan to befollowed for these tests shall be corresponding toacceptable quality limit (AQL) value of 1.5 percentgiven in Table 2 of IS 2500 (Part 1).
