SPECIFICATION FOR VIAL ( GOLDIE) SEALS
( First Revision )
0. FOREWORD
0.1 This Indian Standard ( First Revision) was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 28 February 1977, after the draft finalized by the Metal Containers Sectional Committee had been approved by the Marine, Cargo Movement and Packaging Division Council.
0.2 Consequent to the publication of IS:1984 ( Part I)-1971*, the revision of this standard has become necessary to enable the vial seal manufacturers to meet with the requirements ,of glass industry manufacturing glass vials conforming to IS: 1984 ( Part I )-1971*.
0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS:2-1960t. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified va!ue in this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements for seals used on vials, usually known as goldie seals.
1.1.1 The vial seals prescribed in this standard correspond to the n&k finish specified in IS : 1984 ( Part I )-1971* and the rubber closure dimcn- sions specified in 13:3692-1975$.
2. TERMINOLOGY
2.1 For the purpose of t&is standard, the definitions given in IS : 1394-19665 shall apply.

3. DIMENSIONS AND TOLERANCES
3.1 The seals shall be manufactured to the dimensions and tolerances given in Table 1.

4. MATERIALS 4.1 The seals shall be manufactured from 0.20f0.02 mm thick aluminium alloy sheets or coils conforming to Grade 19 000 or 19 500 of IS:737-1974” and shall be of temper 4H.
5. MANUFACTURE
5.1 The seal shall be manufactured from a single piece of aluminium.
5.2 In the process of manufacture, any decorative coatings or finishes to be applied to the seal shall be as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. These coatings shall be resistant to denatured spirit.
5.3 Provisions for tearing or breaking off the centre portion of the seal shall be provided according to a design agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. An example of a typical top perforation is shown in Table 1.
5.4 The seal shall be new and in a clean condition outside and inside. It shall be free from foreign matter.
6. TESTS
6.1 The body of the seal shall be free from any fractures or cracks. When sealed on a standard vial it shall not be removable from the vial without breaking its sides.
6.2 The top centre or removable portion of the seal shall be easily broken off by hand.
7. PACKING AND MARKING
7.1 Packing -The vial ( goldie ) seals shall be packed as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier.
7.2 Marking - The vial ( goldie ) seals may be marked or embossed with the purchaser’s and/or the manufacturer’s name or registered trade-mark, if any.
7.2.1 The seals may also be marked with the ISI Certification Mark. NOTE - The use of the ISI Certification Mark is governed by the provisions
of the Indian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The ISI mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well-defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by IS1 and operated by the producer. IS1 marked products are also continuously checked by IS1 for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the IS1 Certification Mark may be granted to manufacturers or processors, may be obtained from the Indian Standards Institution.
